Striker Jackson open to signing long-term deal with Millwall

SIMEON Jackson is open to extending his stay with Millwall beyond the summer.

The Canadian international penned a short-term deal with the Lions on February 1 after his contract with Bundesliga club Eintracht Braunschweig was terminated by mutual consent.

But Jackson insists he is not using his time at The Den as a stepping stone to another club – and would be ready to commit his long-term future to manager Ian Holloway.

The striker admits, though, that relegatio is likely to throw a spanner in the works.

"My focus right now is playing games and picking up results," he told the Southwark News. "Keeping this club in the Championship is paramount.

"Once that's sorted out, then we can look at what to do next.

"You have to keep an eye on both ends. I am enjoying working with the manager and he is definitely going to be an important factor in my future decision.

"Hopefully the next few months go well and we can get something wrapped up."

Jackson says signing a five-month contract with Millwall made practical and financial sense in the wake of his exit from Germany.

"There were different routes of trying to get me out of Braunschweig," he said.

"In terms of the club's position as well, everyone is strapped for cash and every club is in different circumstances.

"It just worked out best for both parties that we did something until the summer and we'll see where we end up."

Not many players would have walked away from a club in one of Europe's top divisions, but Jackson feared his career was stagnating with Die Löwen.

"There's risk in everything," he added. "For me it was just about playing.

"When you're not playing it can be the worst feeling in the world. To come back and have that opportunity again, that's what it was about really."

Let's see how he does between now and the end of the season. We've rushed into signing too many donkeys in recent years.

      @Micky Lions:

100% agree with that . . We have signed too many who generally thought of as good players and we expected great things from only to find they were mediocre . . Or s***

Agree when he says `Staying in the Championship is paramount`.
    Relegation would be a disaster.

It will almost certainly come down to what division we'll be playing in next season. Can't see Jackson wanting to play in league 1, even if we manage to stay up Jackson could well go off elsewhere.

Players that are doing it on the pitch should be the only ones making comments on. Otherwise the words that com out of your mouth is meaningless

Agree with Wall2wall, this guy looks the best of the 5' 8" and below strikers we have ( not being 'heightest' as thats my height, it was the average 40 years ago! ), but especially for strikers, they have to be played!, would like to see Jackson and Morrison together, with Easter as a sub!

Get some goals and less bunny, might be interested in what you have to say then! The team he left in Germany are called Die Lowen. 'The Lions' He's now with the real Lions and needs to graft and score some goals otherwise he's in danger of stagnating here.

@CBLAndy: Never thought of it like that, but you are right CBLAndy, 7 is top at the moment, two hat-ricks and 2 against Leeds Utd. And he will be TOP.
