Ollie wants Millwall defender to "be a bit more bullish"

IAN Holloway wants to see the aggressive side of Mark Beevers.

The centre back has missed Millwall's last three games because of a calf injury but returned to training at the start of the week.

And Holloway has asked the 24-year-old to be more imposing – on and off the field – as he bids to win back his place in the starting XI.

"Beevers has got plenty of potential but he has got to pick up what I want him to do, start dominating people and telling people where to go sometimes," said the Lions boss.

"I want him to be a bit more bullish around the place. He is a bit easy-osy, but hopefully we can turn him into something.

"He has had the potential for years and we have got to get that out of him. I expect him to become a leader."

Needs to take command of the defence but won't be easy with so many senior players at the club.

@Jim28: I'm not sure Beevers is the greatest defender, but we're probably better off with our established players. Even under Lomas, it was the Jackett players who seemed to get the best results.

So please, no more changes. We've had so many different players this season and its done us no good - we desperately need a settled side. Unless he's going to bring in markedly better players, Holloway should try and get the best out of the regulars until the end of the season.

@Jim28: I think he is trying to get a balance from both defenders, he must think Lowry needs to calm down and Beevers needs to man up... Ollie is good at doing this kind of thing. He's trying to create a balance and at the same time learning about his squad... He needs to try things out, i know we do not have long left and i think his regular starting 11 is established now...

      Mine would be
      FORDE
      FREDRICKS SHITTU LOWRY MALONE
      WILLIAMS
      MARTIN WOOLFORD
      UPSON
      MORRISON CAMPBELL

@JONO: Martin has to do a bit more for me, he is energetic but the end product is often terrible.

I bet Lowry is over the moon about the reading defender who was facing a 4 match ban only for our mates at the FA to let him off. W******

Well, the last game that Beevers played was a Home match and he teamed up with Danny Shittu, I remember he had a great game then. So, maybe that's the best place for him. He won most of the headers that came his way.

@steveomfc5: it's 4-3-3 switching to 4-4-2 when defending Upson drops back into centre mid, when in possession he sits behind forwards tone play maker

      @JONO:
Not bad Jono but this is how I think the team will line up vs Barnsley- Based on Ollie's comments about certain players recently.

      FORDE
      DUNNE SHITTU LOWRY MALONE
      BAILEY WILLIAMS UPSON
      MORISON MCDONALD WOOLFORD
SUBS-BYWATER BEEVERS FREDERICKS ABDOU EASTER CAMPBELL FEENEY

If I keep doing this I just know one day I'll get it right...

@NICKOLA: I would be pretty happy with that team and then leave it for a while, Morrison is actually our most effective tight sided forward player

The good thing is for a change Ollie has lots of options for Saturday he could play dunne & play the spurs kid as a wide midfielder.

I might be wrong, but surely these kind of comments (like countless others he's made) should be between the manager and the player. Can't see how this does anyone any good.

I don't know why there is this flurrty of articles about centre backs. Lowry or Beevers next to Shittu with Fredericks and Malone. Its up front and scoring goals which is more important and that problem has still not been solved.

Great shout IH as he as so got Beevers mental attitude right...as he can be the back four leader and needs an almost Rhino aggressive leadership mentality which Robo had but he is now unfortunately to slow and too old now..

Lowry is a bit too nasty, Beevers too soft. Shittu has the balance about right. Attitude is not too hard to sort out if you have the ability. They are both young enough to learn.

Problem with Beevers is he's too flat footed & anyone that runs at him or play a one two nearby him,he looks bewildered.Centre backs have to read a game ,Shittu & Lowry can do that to an extent but Beevers can't.Shame but that's why Wednseday got rid.

@Millwallsteve: Agree Beevers is a bit flat footed, i think thats why Ollie is saying he needs to be more bullish... Wants hime to come out of his shell and stretch his game.... Lets have it right every pro should be able to pass and adjust movement quick enough, but they been used to smash and hoof for past few years.... I hope he develops them 🙂
