Holloway mulls over defensive options ahead of Bolton clash

MILLWALL boss Ian Holloway admits he has a selection headache at centre back ahead of Bolton's visit to The Den tomorrow.

With left-footed options Mark Beevers (calf) and Shane Lowry (suspended) missing, Holloway must decide who to parter with Danny Shittu in the Lions' back four.

Shaun Williams started alongside Shittu against Yeovil on Tuesday night, but the 27-year-old looked more effective once he was moved into midfield in the second half.

Paul Robinson played against Burnley last weekend but Alan Dunne could also be an option, having impressed during a substitute appearance at Huish Park.

"I'm still thinking about it," Holloway said. "Whichever two I go with will be a bit makeshift, because whoever I pick won't be left-footed, that's the problem. I'm mulling it over.

"Lowry coming back for the Barnsley game will free Williams up to play in midfield, which is where I bought him to play.

"Shaun prefers being in midfield. He's a very good player and will make us quite solid if I can get him just in front of the back four – he'll read things and influence the game.

"I do think Dunne could be an option for me because he is a very, very good defender. He's determined. If he's only going to be a right back, he needs to give me a little bit more.

"He is a good talker, coordinator and organiser. There is no reason, with the way I want to play, why I can't put him alongside another right-sided centre back. He could easily do it."

Rhino converted from a RB to a very successful CB, Dunne perhaps a little short?

Yeah, rhino used to be used as a right back , centre back, and centre midfielder. Dunney's every bit as good as him , and I think could do the job well.

@bordersarebest0170: Borders cant agree on this one what did he have the other night 20 min in that position, I know he said he played in the position out in Portugal, but this if for real & as Diceman said a little too short.

I think a lot of you are expect a lot of Dunne he is not going to turn into Kitch over night and the comparison to Rhino is a bit early would you not say maybe if he ever makes it to the front of a season ticket then maybe. but who ever he uses we need to try to get a clean sheet as we are leaking goals every game. COYL!!!!!

@bordersarebest0170: Dunne a CB, I've heard it all now. IH also says that's if he's just a RB then he needs to give a bit more. He is a short Irishman that is more likely than Lowry to get sent off, which is saying something........Robo or Williams are the only options I think.

@barnlion: not sure what you don't agree with me about. For a start I did not mention Kitchener, who was a great centre half, and I was not comparing dunney to rhino , I was merely using him as a case in point, rhino was a journeyman player with a tackle and a challenge in him, with plenty of heart, and maybe Ollie could make use of dunney in the same way, that was all. You say he's a bit short, is he any shorter than Williams, or lowrey.

@bordersarebest0170: Sorry mate, it was that you said that Alan Dunne is every bit as good as him (Rhino) IMO he is not hence I disagree with you on this one, the Kitch thing is my assesment of Dunne as to his ledgend status.

Why the hell do we not give CB Jake Goodman a chance?
He is being talked about when he goes out on loan and then not even given a chance when Holloway calls him back.
Whats the point! he could be a much better asset to us if he is playing football out on loan than our u21 squad - to let him learn and develop.
As a millwall fan I like seeing our home grown talent coming through the ranks and developing. But being the typical millwall of the last few years we don't even try to bring these through.
I also know that Goodman is a millwall fan - so we all know that a true fan would wear that shirt with pride and give 100%.
Come on Ollie - give the boy a chance

If we get any more injuries to defenders,we could wind up with smith In there. Then it would read DUNNEY JACK & DANNY
