Marquis on the move again as Millwall striker joins Cobblers

JOHN Marquis has made his third loan move of the season after joining League Two strugglers Northampton Town until May 3.

Marquis, who last month signed a new one-year contract with the Lions, has previously had spells with Portsmouth and Torquay United this campaign.

Cobblers boss Chris Wilder said: "I have seen John break onto the scene this season with Portsmouth and Torquay.

"He's aggressive and gives us something different at the top end of the pitch.

"I'm delighted we've got him until the end of the season and he'll add to the striking options we've got. John is a goalthreat."

While i wish him well, i cant for the life of me understand why we gave him a contract extension and then loan him out again???????

@the verminhater: I also have no idea why we have given him another year when there is little doubt he will never be a regular for us. Sorry but we have simply delayed the inevitable for reasons unknown?

@JonnyBanks: He tries his heart out, but the three clubs he's been at this season tell you everything - all at the bottom of League Two. I still don't understand why he was given an extension - an awful decision by Holloway.

@Micky Lions: Says it all really Micky the player is not good enough at this level that's clear but we then waste our meger wages budget on giving him a new deal, what does that say about the management and the AA for giving it the go ahead, but JM is not the only one though there are several others who need to be moved on a.s.a.p.

@Micky Lions: I agree with you and Barn completely. Only reason I can guess for giving him another year is if we think we can get a fee from someone that outweighs his wages.

@Adsy77777: Adsy with that amount of financial acumen I am sure you would do a far better job than what is being done at the moment, if what you say is true, and going on John's past record at all the different clubs he has been on loan with.
I would think that if someone was to take him we may get a new set of shirts or if we are lucky mavbe a new costume for Zampa but not much more me thinks.

@Adsy77777: Lol, Barn - it's probably just another s*** decision, as has been the norm this season, I'm clutching at straws.

A gamble with the contract but the thinking would be that ' You never know'. Sherringham was crap for a while too.

Gents - sharpen up! It's a no brainier! We sign him up then loan him out. They pay his wages - if he does well we benefit with a fee or an improved player - if he flops then it's cost us eff all. Shrewd business.

It's about getting him playing competitive football not sitting on the bench or playing worthless u21 games.

Obviously IH sees something in John that we don't see. Maybe he thinks that if he eats his Weetabix every morning he will grow into a big strong player. Even if he bangs in the goals regularly at Northampton, that does not make him a Championship player. I love Johns enthusiasum, but he reminds me of a ball on a Pinball table, running round bumping into things and never really achieving anything. Anyway I hope he is successful. Good Luck.

A lorry load of Weetabix laced with steroids would not help that mediocre player. Not to be mentioned in the same breath as Sadlier let alone Sheringham ffs. Tut

Can't believe MFC gave him another years contract when so many decent players are out of contract in the summer? I'm guessing he's on crap wages, cos he is crap!!
Let's not all say he's millwall through and through and a tryer as he will never score in the championship, league two is about his standard and that's been kind !
So good luck JM bang a few in and win yourself a permanent deal !
