Yeovil manager: Millwall basement battle is like a cup final

GARY Johnson believes Millwall's visit to Huish Park tomorrow is "a cup final."

Johnson, whose side are rooted to the foot of the Championship table, insists the Glovers must take points off the teams around them in the table – starting against the Lions.

Ian Holloway's side, meanwhile, would move nine points clear of bottom spot with a win.

Yeovil were beaten 2-1 by Leeds United last weekend but Johnson says picking up results against relegation rivals is more important in the context of their season.

"Leeds are a lot higher in the table and with a lot more points than teams like Millwall and Doncaster that we've got to play," he said.

"So we have got to be aware that there are better teams and there are teams that are not so good as those better teams.

"We are one of those of course, so we've got to make sure that we perform and get some points on the teams that are in the lower half of the table.

"It [tomorrow's game] is massive. It's one of those cup finals – one of those six-pointers."

Johnson, meanwhile, does not expect Ed Upson to play against his former club.

"I think the two chairmen did that deal," he said.

"I'm pretty sure that, as when you do a loan or in this case a sale, when it's close to playing that person (against his old club) it's probably better for everybody for him not to play in that particular game.

"They'll have him for 18 other games out of the 19, so I'm sure they won't miss him much.

"So it's probably the right thing for the two chairmen to do, and say, 'okay as part of the deal he can't play against us'."

Speaking on Monday, Holloway stated he may back out of the "gentlemen's agreement" regarding Upson's eligibility for the game.

Going down GJ! Punching above your weight in this league. Saw the live match Saturday afternoon! "S*** ground no fans!" Springs to mind! I think your board will be sacking you Wednesday morning along with your groundsman! Looks like your lot play on a landfill site! Something our lot might need to look out for tomorrow night. Pitch looked shocking!

Poor old sod, he is obviously getting confused in his old age, plus all the worry about losing his job very soon, perhaps we can help him out. A cup final is normaly played at a very big ground, with lots of seats, normally its called Wembley, or when we played in one it was called Cardiff. Normally the pitch is like a carpet, nice and smooth, like a baby's bum. Lots of people go and when we went we took 30 odd thousand, we would have taken more, but the FA, had to give lots of tickets away to their friends. Now back to the game tomorrow, it will be played in a pretty sh**ty ground, with a pitch that resembles one of those arena's where mud wrestling is held and it will be in front of not many people. The atmosphere at the home end will resemble a lively funeral. So Mr Johnson I do hope I have helped you understand a little bit more about the game you are (just still) involved in.

      @rikkiatwall:

He's taken his teams to Wembley twice in play off finals, couldn't tell you how many fans went though
Lost a lot of respect for GJ and his sly digs but a gentlemens agreement is something you shouldn't go back on, it dont look good infront of other clubs, we should still be able to beat them but if the pitch is as bad as whats said then for me Jimmy should be starting

      COME ON YOU LIONS
