Holloway considers breaking Upson agreement with Yeovil

ED Upson could face Yeovil Town tomorrow night despite Millwall agreeing not to play the midfielder against his former club when they signed him in January.

Ian Holloway has confirmed Upson could now start against the Glovers, after their manager Gary Johnson claimed the 24-year-old was not up to "Championship standard."

Holloway was angered by Johnson's comments and is considering whether to give Upson the chance to prove his ex-boss wrong in Tuesday's basement battle.

He told NewsAtDen: "After what his manager said, I am thinking about whether I should be a gentleman or not.

"I might play him because if Gary says he is not good enough to play in the Championship, I might prove that he is by playing Ed against him.

"Gary upset me the other week because he shouldn't say that about his old player.

"They wouldn't have sold him to us, with us competing against them to stay up, had he been allowed to play. Normally I'm a gentleman and would keep my word.

"I wanted Ed long term – that was the thinking. If I was going to lose Liam Trotter, and I could bring in a replacement for the future, then no problem, I haven't got an issue.

"But their manager shouldn't be saying things like that, I don't think."

Upson could never be more motivated to play against his former club, with a manager saying your crap. We are desperate, and we need players that are fired up,and he certainly is,so Ollie, he plays. Anyway if Johnson says he's not much cop ,do him a favour and play him. What's the problem???

What ever the history was between Gary Johnson and Ed Upson, he shouldn't be mugging him off like that after he left.
Ollie should play him or at least have him on the bench.
We need to stop worrying about what other people think of us and start upsetting a few people.
Next time Johnson will learn to keep his gob shut!

It was a really stupid comment by Gary Johnson, but an agreement is an agreement. Holloway should concentrate on letting his results do the talking, rather than all his witty sound-bites off the pitch.

Pick the absolute best team whoever they might be no matter what happens, it's not like there's a lot of time to gamble or experiment. Really put Yeovil to the pump early and don't take the foot of the throat till the final whistle. Millwall, you're time has come!!!

    I would play him.
Johnson broke the terms of the agreement by his disgaraceful comments in my opinion.
He is not Championship standard so surely Johnson would be happier if we play him.
If he does play I will stick a few quid on him scoring the winner.
    Play him Holloway.

Going to post some facts. The defence has rightly come under a lost of stick this season, and boy they have been poor. But l think the lack of goals and chances missed are as much to blame. When you have someone hitting the onion regularly, the pressure is taken off of the defence. When Henderson came after Morrison left, and he was scoring, Then Wood, and we were in the playoff places. When they left, we went to pot, but the defence was the same. The point l am trying to make, we have squandered several good chances to put ourselves in front, when we have been on top. Martin one on one with the keeper, Feeney through, shot like a back pass. Just a couple of examples of when we were on top, we did not take our chances. No matter how good your defence is if you dont take your chances it will bite you on the a***. Bournemouth are no better than us, except Grabban has got 13 goals, end off.
    Facts :Nugent 17, Vardy 10, Dyer 9. Ings 24, Voaks 15, Austin 15, Martin 17, Dryson12, Le Fondre 15, Pogrebayne 9.
    Millwall : Woolford 6 (midfield) Morrison 4, McDonald 4.
I am not saying our defence is not to blame as well, its just that goals win you games.

completely agree. Goals give you a platform to work from. going 1.0 down like we have most games has made us predictable and easy to pick off.

Keep the verbal agreement with a manager who was pathetic enough to take a swipe at Upson he was gutted to be losing or play Upson and give us a better chance of getting 3 points and keeping us in the Championsip, bit of a no brainer! Sod Johnson and his agreement, play Upson!

Forget the bravado, maybe Johnson's right - opinions on Upson so far ( but don't give me the don't judge him, it is too soon, response - Tom Ince goes straight up to Prem and has a major influence, no bedding in needed , that's because he is good)

Ollie says he wants Ed long-term; well, someone has got to be ready short-term.

I get the sense that Ollie thinks that if we go don't people won't hold a grudge. Well.....

Forget a verbal agreement and what ever Johnson has said, bottom line is that it is Ollies responsibility to pick what he thinks is his strongest 11 and if he thinks Upson is part of that then he MUST pick him. This is a massive game and Ollie should not weaken the team for anyone. We have paid the asking price, we now have every right to play the player.

Just a thought but Ed could be targeted for some rough treatment if he plays and it could act as a rallying point for Yeovil to up their performance on the night. Might make more sense not to play him.

Conversely . .their players could become so preoccupied with him they might take their eye off the game and we could nick a couple of cheeky ones?

Apparantly its was an agreement by the 'Chairmen'. Well, can't remeber when JB last picked the team, so if Upson makes us a better team, play him, and let JB do the talking with their Chairman.
We need 3 points, so as I didn't make the trip to Burnley, I can't comment on Upson, but if he is better than what weve got then there is no other option.

i think Holloway is trying to put Johnson off his game plan. if he aint he should play him coz he is our player and upson has a point to prove.personally i don't think hes got any intention of playing him.

Reminds me of Tim Howard transfer from Man U to Everton...when the clubs had an agreement....
    should not be allowed IMHO
We pay Upson's wages so we decide whether he plays or not, otherwise it makes a mockery of the entire notion of the league being a competition
there is no way that Yeovil can enforce such an agreement....

they could however decide not to do business with us anymore...
you pays your money and you take the choice

Personally I'm a man of my word so would stick to what I had agreed but given that he slagged him off I would at least ask their boss to explain his comments and if he sticks with it then f*** him play Upson.

Not like we are upsetting a big club who might hold it against us in the future and we need a win!!!
