Bolton make approach for Millwall midfielder Liam Trotter

BOLTON have made an enquiry for Millwall midfielder Liam Trotter.

Trotter has been a long-term target for boss Dougie Freedman and the Lions' Championship rivals are trying to agree a deal for the 25-year-old before Friday's transfer deadline.

It is understood the two clubs are some way apart in their valuation of the former Ipswich Town trainee, who is out-of-contract in the summer.

Freedman made an approach for Trotter in December 2012, and was also eager to sign him when he was Crystal Palace manager.

A source confirmed that negotiations would go "right down to the wire", with the window closing at 11pm tomorrow.

Millwall offered Trotter a new, double-your-money deal before Christmas but he has so far been reluctant to discuss an extension – albeit under ex-manager Steve Lomas.

Ian Holloway has threatened to sell players who refuse to commit their futures to the club.

If Trotter goes, the Lions could turn to Yeovil Town star Ed Upson to replace him.

b*******!!! no way ? BOLTON! a step down if ya ask me liam , we're going in the right direction and building a decent squad and will have a realistic shot next year of playoffs with the best manager in this league! i think this would be a BIG mistake on your part if ya gonna leave go up not sideways or backwards ffs!!!

@steveomfc5: Rather Wolves have him, Bolton are not far above us and to let him go to a rival would be crazy.
I would like him to stay but if we have a replacement that turns up more often and can create then so be it.

@Sealion: he won't go backwards lol he's to good for league 1 if he want's to go let him , but i can't see why? when we have holloway now. going to play for a shitty club like bolton with a proper shitty manager in freeman would be beyond me . i'd lol at him tbh

@steveomfc5: Steveo not sure about a step back, but its not a step up as i see it, as those who read post on here I am not a big fan of Liam, because I think he has all the attributes to be a top class player but he never seems to use them ( a lower league yaya)/? at 25 he can afford to give it till the end of the season .

Then if he starts to play the way I am sure all at Millwall know that he is capable of he may get a far better offer from a Prem side and on a selfish note Millwall may get some more dosh for him.Stay untill the end at play like we know you can and earn a move to a better club than Bolton.

@Barnlion: it would be a bad move for him i think! i like him i think he's a great player at this level , ok he could be a bit more lively but that's just his style of play. and he's played next to abdou for the best part who could make road runner look slow and lazy lol i prefer your selfish take on it! as that would be the brainy thing to do. but if he has no interst in playing for us id pack his bags for him lol

@dpendet: Couldn't agree more. Feeney was a joke the other night, and most previous games this year. Don't know what he did in Portugal to get on the bench, but he looked disinterested and couldn't give a s***. I like Trotter but not sure he can handle the tempo IH wants to play. Shame, but if theres money in it, sell him on. Don't know anything about the Yoevil boy though.

As for Feeney he also has ability to be a class player but also prone to a bit of laziness imo. Welcome to news at den bruv, bout bloody time lol.

I have always defended Liam trotter on this site. He is a very talented footballer but if he wants to go then so be it. Millwall have offered him double his current wages so well done the board. I only ever want players here that want to be here no matter who or how good you are. I think it's probbaly the right time then to say goodbye, good luck and thanks.

ENHANCE HIS PLAY FOR LATER YEARS....................
I THINK HIS GAME IS A LITTLE SLOW FOR WHAT WE AT MILLWALL WANT, AND MAY SUIT ANOTHER FOOTBALL CLUB.

Not suprised, this has been going on for some time now, even under KJ. He made up his mined ages ago to leave, and if his heart aint in it, and his performances sometimes show that, then its time to go. Better we get a few quid now, than nothing in a few months time.. Holloways mindset is that " we are all in this together". I buy into this, as you can turn average players that have total commitment to the cause, into a successful team, look at the crazy gang. Going back to Trotter they have offered him a " Hughie Green " Double your money, most wont understand that, ask your parents. And he has turned it down, so we have know choice. l personally think he is overated, gets push off the ball far to easy for a big lad , and if he was that good, a premiership side , Fulham, etc. Or a Leicester would have come in for him. But l would not be surprised if we see an improved Trotter eslewhere.

The best outcome would be to sell Trotter who's commitment is elsewhere then grab Upson asap. He will be willing to fight for his place and he is doing pretty well at Yeovil.

How could he not want to be part of the 'Revolution' and aren't Bolton £200 million in debt.
Only place they're going is 'administration'!

Millwall must do everything to persuade LT to stay and to sell him on the cheap to the likes of Bolton would be a bad deal. I cannot see Liam doing any better at that dump so please stay at the Den and earn your keep. You never know how much these players agents influence them because they are in it for the money too and receive a percentage of the transfer fee. They can often sow discord into a players mind. Hope Liam stays he is extremely talented.

        Word - prevaricate
        Pronounced - prɪˈvarɪkeɪt

verb: prevaricate; 3rd person present: prevaricates; past tense: prevaricated; past participle: prevaricated; gerund or present participle: prevaricating

Meaning - speak or act in an evasive way.

Example - "he seemed to prevaricate when journalists asked pointed questions"

Conclusion - Every single football manager in the Premiership regularly prevaricates. 😉

Good. Trotter is a great player but his attitude is questionable? Did you see his reaction to DJ Camberwell's goal? He just stood there, while the whole team chased DJ down to congratulate him. TEAM spirit Liam, I don't think his head is right. Ipswich fans I know, loved it when he left. Bring someone in who turns up more often I say! Let him go. COYL

I think a move may be the best thing for Trotter, he has gone a bit stale lately and needs a new challenge. Unless IH has been able to reinvigorate him I can't see him signing an extension. Ed Upson is a quality player and has been doing a very good job for Yeovil, not to mention scoring the winnner against us this season!

@glyngo: As usual, I agree with you Glyngo. Players come and go - that's what happens. Whether for the sake of their career or for money - same as everyone of us on here do in our own lives. Why when a player leaves or looks like leaving or has a downturn of form are they suddenly the scum of the earth ? Whatever happens, IMO Trotts is a good player who has served us well and will be sold for a profit. As far as I know he has never moaned or slagged us off. Even at half tilt he has been the best player we own for some time. IH insists we are the salt of the earth, let's show him we are. Whatever happens Liam, I wish you all the best

Let him go for whatever we can get. he's going in the summer anyway for nothing if we don't shift him now. Not sure he is 'lazy'. He's a big lad like Morison and sometimes looks slow but isn't. I just think he has wanted out for a good while so Ollie will let him go.

Such a shame he hasn't lived up to his potential. 6 ft 3 attacking midfielder who has got everything going for him. He's an absolute unit, you would hate to play against a player like that. But since we came up from L1 we have only seen small glimpses of the player he was in L1. The thing is, i can see him going to Bolton and coming back to The Den on the 15th Feb and destroying us!!!!!

Liam Trotter is NOT a great player! He has shown a very poor attitude, he has the lowest work rate I've ever seen in a Millwall shirt even Uwe the Duvet tried harder! If you compare Trotter to an actual great player in that position Tim Cahill - Trotter is mediocre at best! Selling him to a divisional rival would be stupid right now in my opinion BUT if he's not signing a new deal (which lets be realistic he hasnt for 18 months so isnt going to) then we should be looking to cash in!!

Well maybe i shouldn't have said the word Great, but a good championship player with the potential to become better..

Well lets hope everyone isn't so fickle afterwards when/if he starts scoring for us or for someone else.

Wasn't so long ago people was asking Shittu to be removed, yet he will become better per game under IH..

Need to lose players like Smith, Wright, Feeney, Abdou.. Questions still being ask towards Baily & Chaplow..

@Richiee82: no not great in any way

Trotter has some nice touches and control, but is immobile and can't tackle - the reason he looks half decent is that were conditioned to seeing him play with abdou and others in midfield - think of the limited players we have had filing-in in midfield such as jack smith, st ledger etc over the last few years and Trotter only looks good in comparioson to them - not in comparison to other quality midfielders - when you think of who we have had , it isn't a wonder we have won so few games over the last year - upgrade and get rid of him - If he has been offered double salary , he has a huge cheek in turning it down for what he has produced

Surely this means that when Freedman got Feeney on loan before Christmas, he'd asked (and got) the wrong Liam! Or perhaps this is all a mistake, and in fact he DOES want Feeney and not Trotter. Isn't Bolton's nickname "The Trotters" too? And isn't the definition of a "trotter" someone who, erm, trots? i.e. doesn't exactly set the world alight with blistering speed ... if so, he is SO aptly named. This is all getting very confusing!

This is a bit of a no loose situation. If he signs a new contract then he has bought into what Holloway expects from the players and will be a real asset. If he doesnt want to sign then it really only confirms what we already think that he is not commited to the club and we get money for him now rather than loose him on a free in the summer.

Why go to Portugal to make everyone super fit only for LT to continue strolling around the pitch. It makes sense to exchange cash for LT and let him stroll round somewhere else. I don't think there is any doubt that he's a good player, but doesn't appear to fit into IH's plans to me. But then what do I know?

@Profiler4: Well you certainly know that Trotter is lazy and never runs! He literally strolls about the pitch like he's walking his dog!!

Gotta be the most frustrating player to wear our shirt in recent years.Already turned down double wages to stay, so dont want be here. Had the ability rarely showed it shame.Better for all concerned if he jogs on to Bolton for as much as we can get. GOODBYE LIAM ITS BEEN EMOTIONAL !

The contract situation down millwall is becoming laughable! henry and trotter both leaving for around 700k a few years back we would have been looking at 3-4 mill for the pair! why we dont do similar deals like we did with morison amazes me. That way if someone comes in at least we can get a good fee just stick it in there contract

@Steve: Yep, I totally agree, 500K for Henry at his best and Trotter is still classified as 'Has potential' 400k at best.

Rather he went now tbh he has no interst what so ever.
he'll go for nothing in the summer so we may as well get something for him now.
good on his day but his day is a very rare one. Served us well early on but like kj time for change.
    good luck and thanks.

I would like trotter to stay I think it's in him he just needs someone to bring him on & I holloway is the man to do that. But first must sign a new contract & if holloway can't make him a better player then sell him at the end of the season.

My son has just told me, after the pre match conference this afternoon. Holloway walked away from the press conference singing " no one likes us we dont care". What a star.

@block28; i don't think you get it, can't sell him at the end of the season, cos his contract is up then, that means he can leave for nothing. he wont sign a new contract, he obviously wants to go, so we sell now and we get something for him.

@block 28: If he leaves as a free agent he can command a higher wage as there would be no fee to pay to the parent club.

Not sure about this story. At times Trotter looks quality, but at other times (mostly), he looks unfit and extremely lazy. Putting that to one side though if he is stalling on a new deal maybe we should just f*** him off for a fee before he goes for nothing.

i would hope trotts stays , i know its hard if he wont sign a new deal , but would worry about if we are signing jackson and have dj and morro , with mcdonald going to where is the quality balls coming from to the strikers , in my opinion trotts and macdonald are class above what we have in midfield , and if trotts goes to bolton that is dangerous with them just above us and falling like a stone , gutted about macdonald dont think we have seen the best in him , looked good sat , i still think we are better with trotter in the side than without him , dont get this lazy comment he set up the goal tues , what would u want someone who runs around like headless chicken or someone who sometimes can pick a pass and set up a goal , i think he will be a big loss , big mistake if he goes bolton ,

W@munson68: Agreed. Would like to see us keep Trotter as he has quality and although does not always produce it would like to think a character like IH could get the best out of him. He can pick a pass, has the right physical attributes and with a extra 10% energy would be comparable to players such a Huddleston. However if he does not want to play for millwall we would be better off cashing in on him so long as he does not get sold to our direct rivals (Bolton or team in similar league position). Think McD is another good player but plays a similar role to Morison with less arial threat so trust IH judgement and the money from any transfer fee/freed up wages could be put to us elsewhere??? Thought Feeney was ineffective on Tuesday night but for some reason think with the right input he could become a dangerous player, would like to see him stay til end of the season in the hope he could finally come good... What's the story with Josh Wright, surely he can be reformed somewhere, battersea is just down the road???

@block28: i was just pointing out to you that we cant sell trotter at the end of the season, we aint got him to sell at that stage, i wasn't talking about all the other stuff about wheather he should or shouldn't sign etc the fact is he won't, so sell him and cash in while we can.

Used to be a huge fan of Trotter's, but gone right him. Been too many days when he hasn't put a shift in. He represents what you see a lot of in this generation of players: they have the natural gifts as footballers but don't want to work harder to make themselves achieve their full potential. They should take the best as their models: like Messi, Suarez, Ronaldo and, now totally chnaged, Robbens at Bayern Munich. Naturally Trotter's nowhere near that league. He and Holloway should be the perfect fit....IH wants ball players. But if he sanctions the deal it is obvious Trotter's got a work rate problem. Pity. But how many times a season do you say, Yes Trotter was right on his game today. Williams, if he makes the transition to midfield as IH sees him, would be the perfect replacement. He's got the touch and the work rate.

Money out powers everything in football.

I've debated whether he has wanted to play for a while. He's not an aggressive or passionate player and is not the best when dealing with the fans... Not a Holloway type player

Bolton are tight as f###, they loved Feeney but were not prepared to actually buy him. We should not let Trotts move to a rival so a different team is preferable. Would like to get a Million for him but with contract up soon that ain't gonna happen. Only options as I see them are reduce the contract offer made to Liam under Lomas and see if he is committed to Ollie by signing up or ask for for a decent bit of bunce, say £500,000 minimum from any potential (not Bolton) buyer. In Ollie We Trust.
