Preview: Huddersfield Town vs. Millwall

STRIKER Scott McDonald is expected to return to the Millwall side for Saturday's trip to Huddersfield Town in Ian Holloway's first game in charge.

Holloway has revealed he will make two changes to the XI beaten 4-1 by Southend in the FA Cup last weekend, and one of those is enforced by Jermaine Easter's suspension.

McDonald is the obvious replacement and is set to partner Steve Morison in attack.

Captain Paul Robinson returned to full training this week and his return to the back four could account for the other change.

Liam Trotter is given a 50-50 chance to feature after a knee injury, but Scott Malone (ribs) and Liam Feeney (hamstring) are unlikely to be involved.

Huddersfield are hoping to seal a club-record deal for Bradford City frontman Nahki Wells ahead of kick-off tomorrow.

However, James Vaughan (knee), Joel Lynch (hip) and Peter Clarke (knee) are ruled out.

    Glad Vaughan is out.

Hope Ollie gets off to a good start - be happy with a point, that would do me.

    Come on you Lions!

Glad to hear James Vaughan's been ruled out. He's a useful striker and got the winner against us in September or August

2 changes Ollie's made eh ? Would that be the entire back four and the frontline ? or the Midfield and the back 4 ? 🙂 After the Southend game , no one is safe !
I'm feeling positive about tomorrow , The Ollie effect will kick in and Huddersfield have no Vaughan. We'll come away with a draw at the very least.

If Lowry is playing CB , Beevers should play LB he use to play there for Wednesday and he played there before against Aston isn't too bad.

Ollie says he is going to make 2 changes to the side that lost at Southend. May I suggest the 2 changes are the defence and the midfield !!

Hope Trotter is fit. I think Holloway will be just what he needs to make him realise his true potential. It really is in my opinion now or never for Liam. Hope he fires him up and gets him playing consistently as well as I know he can and convinces him to stay put with us. We shall soon see but I think they will work well together.

@wall2wall: Ollie has stated that he's only made two changes from the Southend game. One is Easter who was red-carded so can't play end would expect McDonald to replace him. The other is either going to be Shittu replaced or a midfielder and either way I hope that half the team that disgraced Millwall at Southend are shown the door sooner rather than later.

@wall2wall: I am sure you are right, Holloway is just the person to motivate Liam and get the team playing to feet. Liam is our most creative midfielder, Holloway will not set him silly targets like 10 goals a season like Lomas did but develope Liam into a creative and confident player. Expect other players to start showing their true potential and forget what happened under Lomas.

I know like me how much you rate Trotter and want him to stay. I think Holloway's appointment might be just what Trotter needs to liven him up and get him playing like we know he can in a system that suits his game.

I think it will be a battling defeat but as long as they all give 100% and work their socks off the Wall fans won't be too unhappy. This game will give Ollie a good look at the current side so we can't expect miracles on day 1. He can then start moulding the best team as he sees fit COYL

@WestKentLion: It's a tough game to start off with. I'll be happy if he can sort out our shambles of a defence, so we can start keeping a few clean sheets.

We've got to be realistic. It's going to take time to instill some confidence and fight before we can properly start turning things around.

The Chiefs of too many that I believe will be on their way when IH eventually starts getting into the Squad are as follows:

    Shittu
    Dunne
    Morison
    Trotter
Forde (more to do with Celtic than him)
    Robinson????
    Keogh

Not a bad list at all. Morison intrigues me. He's got until the rest of the season to get signed permanently but needs a quality service which he hasn't been getting. Interesting that Waghorn hasn't made the squad tonight and Wood is a substitute. I wonder if Olllie is going to use the dosh that's been said is available in January or wait until next season. Going to be difficult to attract quality players on long contracts with our current position in the table. Have these players got as much faith in Ollie that we all have on here ? I bloody well hope so,

@NICKOLA: I would not want Wood now. He has reverted to type and done naff all since he has a contract. The boy obviously has ability as he produces seemingly as when he sees fit. WBA clearly knew this and played it perfectly.

I'd agree to a certain extent but he's got top quality players keeping him out at Leicester. That wasn't the case at Millwall. If we signed him he'd be my first choice striker. I don't think that by giving players contracts they go off the boil and don't put in the effort. Shittu doesn't play badly because he's got a 2yr contract. He plays badly because he's not a Championship standard footballer anymore but would do someone in League one or two a good job for a couple of years. Henry wanted out as will Feeney once he's not making the squad which will happen soon. Players need contracts, but they earn them. They sometimes don't live-up to expectations but I don't think any of them do it purposely.@JonnyBanks:

@NICKOLA: I know for a fact that taking things on the assumption that all footballers and managers play for pride and have a code to work/win is balloaks. I know personally a manager who was doing well at a league one side 10 odd years ago stumbled upon a wonder kid talent that coincided with his team being in the promotion race when his brief from the chairman was to avoid relegation and aim for mid table.

2/3 through the season this brief was reiterated to him and it was explained that the cost of promotion to the championship outweighed the gains with regards to overheads, stadium improvements, wages etc etc.

Scary? Perhaps.... But it makes sense in reality. He got to the stage where he invited the sack in order to get his contract paid up knowing that once a manager gets into a certain bracket he is almost certain to walk into another job of a similar level and pay.

Long winded post. But I hope it shows that there is a lot of grey in the game and many players really do not care.

@JonnyBanks: Pure speculation Trotter will stay now as I suspect Morison will. Holloway is not going to let our best midfielder go and am sure will encourage him to remain with Millwall. Likewise I cannot see Morison going with such a shortage of strikers.

@JonnyBanks: The interesting thing about your list is that I suspect that it includes some of the players who are causing disruption in the dressing room as apart from Morison who was resigned on loan by Lomas they are all players signed by Jackett and they are all senior members of the squad.

It happens. It was rife and with all the spot betting claims nowadays I would assume its worse now more than ever. It wood be naive to think that everybody that plays football cares about the game and the club they are at.

As I said if is sad, but I was sad when I was 7/8 and I was told that Wrestling was fake. Tut

@JonnyBanks: This is why managers such as SL and West Hams big head refuse to quit (even when they know its in the best interest for the club/fans) they want the pay off.

I suppose that makes IH to walk away from palace rather that wait for the sack.

Keogh deserves a chance, he is judged on never playing a game. A prolific striker who lost it when his wife had a miscarriage which is understandable. Jackett should never of moved him to wing, give him a chance upfront and see what he can do.

Whatever happens Tomorrow, I think we'll be ok this season and will be playing the likes of West Ham and Sunderland next season. There's still a lot of games to go, and to be honest we have been absolute s**** this season so far, so it can and will get better. We'll be a Championship team next season. I truly now believe that. Otherwise, what's the point ?
A loss Tomorrow, a point or all three doesn't matter in the long run. We will make it and survive !!

Good luck today for our team, it will not be easy and am not over optimistic, a point would be enough. With the right attitude this team which put the skids under QPR can do it. They lost a massive amount of confidence under SL , hopefully IH will turn that around, thankfully there is time to put us back on track and just a few wins can lift the side out of the relegation zone. There is no doubt that eventually IH will shape the side into what he thinks is capable to stay up and move on. Lets see what the team looks like in a months time before demanding certain players go.

@Peckhamlad: totally agree mate, Holloway will already have a good idea of the players he needs to keep to adjust to his philosophy of play. Knee jerking will only make things worse! We have a squad capable of finishing mid division and I am sure he has already instilled a modicum of self belief in the players. Unfortunately we need to afford Holloway (as we did Lomas) a commodity we have little of and that's time time. The only difference now is the ubiquitous experience of Holloway, which will hopefully shine through quickly.
As has been pointed out untold times, the Man we should really be thanking is Jacket, and I for one will stand and applaud him on his return to the Den!!

As the mental one said we ain't got 4 weeks it's got to happen now. So get rid of the s*** now & bring your own players in. Sooner the better.

One thing i have liked is, we have had all these interviews and Ollie hasn't told the opposition how good they are and which players we fear. I found Lomas, probably through inexperience, quite often did this. Not only then do we go out on the backfoot with trepidation in our bellies but we do the oppositions team talk for them. The away game against Leicester and the way Lomas bummed up Dyer being a prime example. He scored after 12 minutes. Good luck Ollie and to all you who are able to make it. See you at the Ipswich game COYL.

      @Peckhamlad:

It is a question of the squad being able to do what Ollie has asked them to do and listen to his instructions throughout the game.
They have proved that they can do it against Blackpool and Leeds under Lomas.
Lets see if they can do better under Ollie. (The Mad One)
All I want is 110% from the players and no goals conceded, if we concede a goal go and get an equaliser

Well, Holloway gives you hope...but all in all that looks like a crap team, especially the defence. Going to be a tough rest of season

@bonnie1272: I didn't expect too much today bonn as ollie said he's leaving it in bomber and fitz's hands this week so he can see what he's got and what's needed.
I'm more gutted with the fact we go 0-0 until the 89th min and yet again poor defending cost's us, jack smith with a weak headed clearance.
But that said one change from southend and a much better performance.
I really hope ollie can turn it round but like todays game I'm not expecting him too as he needs to change far too much in the squad and behind the scenes.
        never mind

What a choker, last gasp goal from their new signing,..but BBC report said Millwall were doing really well and fell to an opportunitst goal. If the team showed more spirit as it seems then there is hope for the future.

Gutted to lose so close to FT but a work in progress.

Wait until he's got some new players in and at least Doncaster lost.
