Preview: Doncaster Rovers vs. Millwall

MIDFIELDERS Lee Martin and Nicky Bailey have been added to the Millwall squad to face Doncaster Rovers on Sunday.

Martin (hamstring) and Bailey (knee) have been missing through injury in recent weeks, but return for the trip to the Keepmoat Stadium.

Liam Trotter is a major doubt after hobbling off against Watford on Boxing Day with a knee problem, while captain Paul Robinson is also struggling.

Danny Shittu is suspended after his red card at Vicarage Road.

Caretaker duo Neil Harris and Scott Fitzgerald have added youngsters Alfie Pavey, Fred Onyedinma and Sid Nelson to the 20-man travelling party.

Doncaster trio Chris Brown (ankle), Billy Paynter (Achilles) and James Coppinger (heel) will all have late fitness tests ahead of the game.

Paul Keegan (hamstring), Jamie McCombe (back), Rob Jones (neck) and James Husband (shoulder) are definitely ruled out.

This is going to be another tough test, good to see youngsters added but this match needs a lot of resolve from the players and they certainly need a boost of self confidence.

On another topic i see that Charlton are the subject of take over talks by a Belgium Millionaire wish Millwall could find a rich backer to take over.

@glyngo: that's correct. My compatriot Berylson is indeed a wealthy millionaire. The problem is he can't continue to pump, money into the club when it takes losses like it does. We have to fill the seats.

@BetaMale: Berylson has certainly help finance the club, but I'd say he's been fairly cautious with his spending on the team since promotion. Lots of free transfers and an inexperienced manager on the cheap are some of the main reasons we haven't been much better than last year's terrible season. Throw in Ambler & Co's bunglings behind the scenes and you have some good reasons why there's so many empty seats at the Den.

@Micky Lions: don't forget the fact that FFFP is coming into affect and the club are preparing for that. Cautious, maybe but I still think that is sensible in this climate.

@BetaMale: yep, no argument from me onbthat point. Trouble is the 30+ years i have followed Millwall we have averaged around 10.5K and only regularly beat that in the old first Div. This is the perennial puzzle, even with a strong squad playing well, our crowds never increase dramatically. I do feel we missed an opportunity beginning of this season though, couple of thousands lapsed fans turned up to see us get played off the park by Yeovil. Sure they should come again anyway but many of those were only going to come again if our results and performances improved. Sad but true.

I'd start the youngsters no harm in it could a risk which will pay off in the future and we need a good CB so Sid Nelson could do well, also think Pavey could get a goal and maybe Fred to come off from the bench.

@millwallstephane: you can't in any way be serious - you cannot understand football - those kids would be so out of their depth it would be untrue - look at where our other players are on loan and you will see where they are as players - there is no excuse now from the senior players in terms of application - but as I always say it is about teamwork - basic systems that players understand and players sticking to them

@timchimes: you don't know they would be out of their depth if they have not been given a chance, Fred has been given so much hype and reportedly been watched by Arsenal and United, so why should he not be given a chance to play if Januzaj has and he has been given a chance in the prem for a team who has won the league. The youngsters should be given a chance I don't see any harm in it bringing them off from the bench if we are winning comfortably or losing. Also most of our players are doing bad Trotter is lazy, Robbo is past it, Beevers is not in form so maybe competition might help them.

Good to see the kids going along for match day experiance and thats exactly what it is so lets not get carried away. Harris has named a squad of 20 with only only 18 in match squad so of the three kids expect only nelson to be named on bench unless trotter is injured then a slight maybe for fred.
    My team would be
    Forde
    Dunne
robbo if fit if not beevers
    Lowry
    Malone
    Feeney
Trotter if fit if not Chaplow
    Bailey
    Woolford
    Mcdonald
    Morison
    Playing 4-4-2
even with available center halves i worry but if robbo's out then playing two left footers in the middle of a dodgy back four is even more of a worry.
Good luck neil and scott just remember the result will have no baring on you what so ever unless we win of course.

Would like to see Easter and Morison upfront.

If Robbo and Trotter aren't fit I would go for a 4-4-2 formation of

    Forde
    Dunne Smith Beevers Malone
    Martin Moussi Bailey Woolford
    Morison McDonald
Subs: Bywater, Lowry, Abdou, Chaplow,Feeney,Easter and Keogh

Doncaster have a lot of defensive problems so we must go there to win with a 4-4-2 formation. Lowry and Beevers 2 left footers in central defence would be a risk hence Smith. Martin rather than Feeney to start with Feeney as sub if required. Bailey to play Trotter's attacking role like he did when he was with Charlton and Easter and Keogh on the bench if the strikers can't hit the target.

If the 3 youngsters are in the travelling party and we have taken 20, one will at least be in the match day squad, which to me is brilliant, about time we have some youngsters coming through, other clubs do it! I have read from a reliable source that the club aren't quite announcing all of the injuries we have at the moment so I wouldn't be surprised if at least 2 of them are in the squad! I wouldn't even attempt to try and guess a team for tomorrow as I think we'll be very surprised!

@spj91: I think you are right - but this is a Lomas legacy; not managing injuries well- playing players when they were injured. We don't have to announce injuries but we need to set up in a way that makes us hard to beat. We must be able to get 13 players out on that pitch to do our club justice

I'd like to think we'd see a completely different attitude from the players and taking Alfie Pavey, Fred Onyedinma and Sid Nelson north to Doncaster is the right thing as Harris will know at first hand how capable they are. Fred will get his chance in the second half I think.

There is nothing wrong with involving the youngsters but they must not be sacrificed for a result. None of them have ever played at this level and it is far too risky to try them out before the new manager has arrived. If one gets on for 10 min then fair enough, but no more. They can easily be injured and put pressure on the senior players to protect them. A little at a time. We have a squad strong enought to take Doncaster to the cleaners if their attitude and determination is right.

0-0 could have been worse but feel might have done better if Trotter was fit . Millwall had 13 shots off target and only 3 on target. Look forward to hearing from supporters who went to the game.
The run of losses has ended at any rate so some positives from the game.

      ABSOLUTELY CORRECT potty1.......................
WE WERE THERE, AND SAW THE " WHOLE MATCH "............
ALTHOUGH OUR TEAM WERE UP FOR IT, AND DID MUCH MORE
RUNNING AND CHASING AFTER THE BALL, WE DID NOT SCORE...........
AND NEARLY LOST IT IN THE LAST 15 x MINS, WHEN DONCASTER ROVER
CAME AT US " HAMMER & TONGS "....................THEY EVEN HIT THE LEFT HAND
SIDE POST.... [ AS WE AT THE MILLWALL END WERE WATCHING ] .
SAVE OUR CELEBRATION OF A " MANAGER AND GREAT TEAM " , FOR WHEN WE
      GET ONE.
SUPER NEIL HARRIS WAS A BRILLIANT STRIKER FOR MILLWALL, BUT LETS NOT
JUMP OVER - BOARD, HE'S ONLY FILLING - IN.
" NO ONE LIKES US , WE DON'T CARE "
      THE STORM................IS WITH US !!!

A good point all things considered. Lowry aint played much lately and started so he may not be 100%. Bailey back from injury as was Chaplow , both cant be anywhere near fully fit. That's 3 players plus chuck Mcdonald into the equation of not quite fit and it seems to be a gamble that paid off.
Big , big game Weds now
