Harris rules himself out of the running to be Millwall boss

NEIL Harris insists his caretaker role at Millwall will not become permanent.

Harris and academy boss Scott Fitzgerald have been placed in temporary charge of the Lions in the wake of Steve Lomas' departure.

The duo took training for the first time on Friday ahead of Sunday's trip to Doncaster.

Harris, speaking to the club's official site, said: "I was sad for myself and the staff that Steve's gone. He brought me back into the club and I enjoyed working with him.

"However results drive this business and ours haven't been good enough.

"I have spoken to the chairman and some of the board and Fitz and myself have been asked to take this on game by game, starting at Doncaster until the new manager is appointed.

"In the short term I am concentrating only on getting a team out there capable of getting a result at Doncaster.

"Longer term, I'm looking forward to continuing as U21s coach and helping out with the seniors as required.

"We have got a few little ideas which we'll try to put across to help the boys. We have to prioritise cutting down on the goals we're conceding particularly from set pieces.

"There are players here with good pedigree who are capable of doing better than they have so far, and it's up to us to get the best out of them.

"We are looking for a performance which makes the fans proud."

Well put bomber... Concerntrate on learning your trade, do not let the board use you as a PR stunt then to ruin your legend status here at Millwall.... You will be a good manager just dont let anyone push you in the deep end yet 🙂

Will be interesting to see the team he puts out. Maybe we'll actually have players in their right positions.

Absolute sense and typical comment from a great man who understands that he is at the beginning of a great management career. I look forward to watching Bomber managing us in a few years time.

@Adsy77777: Depends on who comes in. Short term I can't see anyone going. If and when we get a long term manager in then we will see his own people coming in. Whoever that is will not remove Harris that is certain.

Wise words from NH, One step at a time is the correct way forward Neil, starting with Doncaster and not conceding any goals would be great, putting one in the other end would to me be a bonus

    Good call from Bomber.
My worry is can Ambler make a good call?Could Ambler spot a decent manager even if Pep Guardiola or Jürgen Klopp walked in the room?
Ambler should have fallen on his sword when Lomas was sacked - not allowed to pick his successor.
