BOSS Steve Lomas has praised Liam Trotter's determination to play 90 minutes against Nottingham Forest having only just recovered from a groin injury.
Trotter was given a 50-50 chance of facing the Reds in the days leading up to Tuesday's clash but declared himself fit to start – and ended up playing the whole game.
And Lomas hailed the midfielder's selfless attitude.
He said: "Liam put himself out there – he will play with niggles for the sake of the team – for which he is to be commended. The fans sometimes don't get to see that side of him.
"I thought he was brilliant. After two weeks off with a groin injury, he knew how much we needed him with Guy Moussi and Nicky Bailey missing. He put himself on the line again.
"Liam is sometimes a little bit unappreciated because of his languid style and he looks a bit lazy, but I can assure you his running stats stack up – not with Jimmy Abdou's admittedly – but with a lot of other midfielders'.
"He was excellent for someone who has had very little training recently and he is going to be essential for us over this next period of games. We need him fit and firing."
