AIDEN O'Brien has revealed he is joining Conference outfit Aldershot on loan.

The Millwall striker, 20, will link up with development squad teammate Jake Goodman, who has made 18 appearances for the Shots so far this season.

O'Brien wrote on Twitter that he is "buzzing to get some game time in men's football and hopefully score a few goals!"

The Lions academy product, who spent time on loan at Crawley Town last season, scored twice for the Republic of Ireland U21s against the Faroe Islands earlier this month.

He will stay at Aldershot until January with a view to moving elsewhere in the New Year.

Speaking in October, U21s manager Neil Harris said of O'Brien: "In the long run he needs to be playing league football and we'd be disappointed if that isn't happening by Christmas."

Meanwhile, John Marquis is closing in on a loan move to Torquay United.

He's 20 now & surely he's either good enough for the first team or not, I feel it's that simple. I'm sure the likes of Marquis & O'Brien must think likewise. There doesn't seem to be any sort of policy running through the club at all these days & I'm very quickly losing heart.

@dpendet: In place of who? Feel sorry for him and JM but we've got a lot of strikers taking good money. How can we justify throwing a 20 year old in there when we've got Morison taking over £10k a week and hardly getting a game! Any ideas whats going on with Keogh???

@TheBermondseyBomber: never mind about our strikers been on good money. This doesn't warrant a starting berth specially as they are not doing what they are paid good money to do, give aiden a chance to be a hero !

@dpendet: steady on who said they're "no good" you won't hear that from me but my point is if he was ready to play in out league then surely he would be whether it be for us or on loan at another club - not drop 3 divisions! Fact is, as Aiden said himself, he hasn't yet played men's football so who knows how good is really is or can be but to say he should be in our squad is a bit premature I'm my opinion

Spot on dpendet! It's all about giving them the chance to play more games rather than languishing in our stiffs. I seem to remember Teddy wasn't all that thrilled about being loaned to Aldershot at the time and was close to chucking it in - and look what happened to him!!!!!
The loan system means League One and League Two clubs are jam-packed with players from the Premier League and Championship so O'Brien and Marquis will be rubbing shoulders with and playing against some pretty decent youngsters.
After emerging as one of England's brightest prospects Andros Townend, who had nine loan spells, said he learnt something at every club and that if players approach loan spells with the right attitude they can be invaluable.
O'Brien and Marquis may never be Championship standard, but if they do well we can either bring them back or someone might pay money for them which isn't going to happen while they're kicking around in our reserves.
Seems like a win, win to me!

Good move for the lad, he tried his luck with crawley who only used him as sub so dropping
down a peg wont do any harm, it'll certainly toughen him up a tad. I dont believe for one minute it's because he's not good enough for us he simply is not ready and it's good to see SL delivering on his word that he will send the youngsters out on loan to get game time rather than sitting in the accademy or reserves.
    Well done wall.

@block 28: How much non-league football have you seen? I live close to Aldershot and a mate of mine is a Director there, they try to play football and are better than you think!

It's all about learning and playing 1st team football, no matter how low down it is!

Look at Jack Powell who has gone to Concord United... it's proper non-league but if it wasn't going to benefit the player by going do you think we would actually send them??

.... Almost can't stand this negativity on this site, especially about youngsters.... name 1 youngster who we have had and sold to a big club who has done any good?? Name some youngsters who have come through the Millwall youth (who we have kept) and done well....
