Onyedinma pens Millwall deal after reaching 17th birthday

YOUNG Millwall midfielder Fred Onyedinma has signed professional terms with the club after turning 17 on Sunday.

Onyedinma committed his future to the Lions in June when he agreed to a contract running until 2016, but he had not previously been old enough for the paperwork to be finalised.

Academy boss Scott Fitzgerald told the club's official site: "We're delighted that Fred is staying with us and is now a member of the senior ranks."

Meanwhile, Onyedinma's youth teammates Jack Powell and Niall McManus have been loaned to non-league Concord Rangers and Carshalton Athletic respectively.

Would love to see Fred given a go in the first team, have heard is the real deal and nothing better when a player comes threw the youth system into the first team, hasn't happened to us for a few years now!

What's the saying ? If he's good enough, he's old enough. Get him in playing asap.
My only concern with young players is the lack of patience and understanding by some fans so hopefully Fred can get off to a flyer. Good luck. Really looking forward to watching you and cheering you on.

No offence, but I wonder why, if he's such a 'hot prospect', he hasn't been poached already as is usual ?

@frank: doom and gloom raises its head again.
this might just be a feather in the cap for lomas, did'nt lomas speak to the lad and his parents and convinced fred and his family that millwall was the team for him.I am told at the time lomas got fred to stay with us,other clubs were interested in him including man unt.so we should be saying thanks for signing fred, and well done lomas, instead of some people keep slagging lomas off.[i dont mean the slagging off bit to apply to you personally comment]

Doom & gloom is it? More like realism mate. And I thought it was KJ that talked the boy into staying around, could be wrong of course.... someone will soon correct me! LUVIN all the herberts that disagree with me, half of ya (more than) are dreamers. If the kid is so good, he is GONE. The head in the cloud's dreaming is only for when you are either on your nice shiny seat or your PC !
The older, 1/2 savvy SUPPORTERS, will understand when I say that this club will never see ......
        FRED AND GINGER !!!!!!!!!

and one does'nt need to be half savvy to know where this club is going, just look at 9,000 gates and that tells you nowhere.

@jim1222: Besides, what the f*** does Lomas know about Millwall ? Think ! .....Every week all I read is Lomas praising the 'fantastic' support, and how great the fans are and how valued they are and .....you get the picture ? Doom & Gloom has got f*** all to do with anything, defeat last Sat would have seen him gone !
The 'Fred & Ginger' crap deflects the attention away from what should be a massive inquest..... BARNSLEY ARE BOTTOM FFS !

@frank: barnsley might be bottem in beating them we were without trotter, had malone, beavers,mc donald coming back from injury[i e not match fit and a bit rusty] in moussi we had a man who hardly had time to learn the other players names playing his 1st game and guess what we beat them, also are qpr, burnley, reading, blackpool, leeds, bottom of the league no they are not and none of them beat us,not only are you all doom and gloom you hav'nt got a clue what you are talking about,in fact as usual you are talking out of you A R S E.

@frank: Arsenal were in for him in the summer! David Amoo made the mistake of jumping ship and going to Liverpool at this age and he was only ever seen again plying his trade for Tranmere.... big clubs often ruin youngsters! Maybe Fred and his parents have sat up and taken note!

Good to see a young lad that is making a decision based on career progression rather than just short term financial gain. Genunely looking forward to seeing Fred in a Lions shirt.

I agree, if he's good enough he's old enough, but if he has a bad game the boo boy's will kill his confidence, especially at home, the team are under a lot of pressure to perform from the supporters (and rightly so).The team looked nervous but for once we got some luck on Saturday!!! We all need to get behind the team and the manager!! COYL.

Brilliant! He has done the right thing, youngsters these days have little chances to progress at Premier clubs who have little patience and have the money to go and buy tried and tested internationals.
Fred will learn his trade at Millwall and if he shines as no doubt he will, the vultures will be queuing up for him. Congratulations Fred!

I saw him at friendly with Bromley, ran the show. Might get a run in FACup if they fancy him, but no point sticking him in for the sake of it. I think they should tread carefully especially if we're struggling and wait until we are in safer position.

Great news and shows a bit of common sence from the young lad.
Dont expect to see much if anything of him this season unless SL throws him in the facup and we let some go in jan.
But that said like above if your good enough your old enough. It's never stopped the nigels throwing them in at the deep end. Time will tell good luck freddy boy and keep working hard your time will come.

WOW ! This is the best news MFC could wish for, absolutely fantastic to see a young superstar in the making only thinking about his fave club and how to make the club greater on the world stage. Just as well really because if he was looking for money he's made a right balls-up ! Hopefully his friends will follow his example and become Millwall superstars of the future WOW !

@frank: Am I sensing a hint of sarcasm??

Fred is a class player, but hey if we let him go I'm sure he would have gone on to do wonderful things like all the rest who have been bought by bigger clubs.... Amoo, Mersin, Samba etc etc

The only one who could do well is Conor Wilkinson but his attitude stinks as he just wants more money!!

@jim1222: Fair Play Jim... we was all thinking it!!

I'm actually excited about Fred becoming a 1st team player, Palace done it with Zaha... why can't we do it with Fred? it's a great way for a club like ours to make money! Produce great talent, sell for anywhere between 3-5million or more and rebuild the squad whilst paying some debts off.

Don't think lomas has the minerals to put a 17 year old in the first team & drop bailey. Mousse & trotter but it's still good to see young players signing long contracts.

@block 28: hello block.i dont think it will be a case for dropping any player and replacing them with fred, probably make the bench and come on as sub if things go our way a bit more into the season.i cant see lomas rushing him unless we have a problem.

Wouldn't put him anywhere near the 1st team until next season, or until we are safe or there's an injury crisis. Some of our supporters would ruin him if he has a bad game, I've been sitting there before at many a game and there's bods asking their mates, "what's his name" etc and not having a f****** clue about what's going on, but then will happily c*** off a player for having a bad game. Don't agree with that 'if your good enough your old enough' saying, not when it comes to Millwall anyway. I hope he comes good, but not until he is ready. And the way this season looks like it's heading, there's no way we can risk putting a KID(literally) onto the pitch against much more experienced opposition and in front of our unforgiving, impatient crowd.
