Marquis back training with Millwall after Portsmouth loan

STRIKER John Marquis has described his loan spell at Portsmouth as a "good experience" after his two-month stint on the south coast came to an end.

Marquis, who scored two goals in six appearances during his time at the Fratton Park club, resumed training with Millwall yesterday.

The 21-year-old had not featured for the League Two side since manager Guy Whittingham stated his intention on November 3 to only play permanent members of Pompey's squad.

But the frontman tweeted on Monday: "Good to be back at @MillwallFC today training with the boys & catching up over the last few weeks!

"Thank you 2 the @officialpompey fans, staff and players for making my loan a good experience! 2 goals & undefeated in my 5 games."

I'm worried about my place in my Sunday team if he is available. Come to think about it, not really as he wouldn't get in!!

Should of stayed there, cos your no way near a first team player at mfc. Sorry to be so harsh but your not up to the standard required in the championship!

Good to see our supporters.... oh wait.... no "fans" supporting our homegrown local lads!! At 21 he needs encouragement and guidance to fulfill his potential not have fans berate him as soon as he walks back through the door!

      Well said indeed.
I think Marquis has some potential and hope that he stays with us. He is not blessed with pace but there has been many many strikers that have done well and not been quick. As you rightly say homegrown and a local lad and should be treated better. Good luck John and welcome back.

Couldn't care less what all the above think, I have missed about 5 home games in the last 10seasons, and seen enough of John marquis to know he is not the real deal. As for home grown youngsters I have seen aiden O'brien play for the development team and reserves to know he is the real deal!!!

@dpendet: Fair comment. I'd love see our team full of young, home-grown players, but we have to accept that some just aren't good enough. I'd never give Marquis stick on the field, but I've seen enough of him to know he's not going to make it at this level.

@dpendet: It tells me that someone is handy with google and wikipedia etc! you should be on our scouting team!! I thought you couldnt care less what the above thought - yet here you are calling me and MillwallDave out?! Regardless of ability our youngsters need support not abuse - My club was built on sticking together, supporting eachother and looking after your own - Not slagging off a boy of 21 because his goal record doesnt suggest he's going to keep us in the division!

@dpendet: we as a club struggle to attract any sort of player I wonder if the fact that the fans s*** off there own for doing nothing other than trying for Millwall has something to do with that he I'm sure would like to be better but he ain't and he ain't gonna get anymore confidence from people keep telling him he is rubbish he isn't going to displace any of our current strikers ATM and maybe never will but he will have no chance if his own fans tell him he is rubbish that's all I'm saying if we all stick together and support each other millwall will be better for it such negativity all the time is much more detrimental to millwall than a 21 year old trying his best in the development side

No problem with posters having opinions about players but all this 'at this level' B/S does my head in. If you don't rate a player say why and make it constructive, that way we can see who really knows what they're talking about on here.
