Celtic express interest in signing Millwall 'keeper – report

SCOTTISH champions Celtic want to snap up Millwall goalkeeper David Forde next summer, according to reports.

The Irish Independent claims that the Glaswegian club have earmarked Forde, whose Lions contract expires in June 2014, as a possible replacement for Fraser Forster.

Highly-rated Forster made his England debut against Chile on Friday night and the likes of Manchester United and Manchester City are said to be readying a move for him.

And Celtic buy augmentin 625 manager Neil Lennon is reportedly lining up Forde to replace Forster should the 25-year-old move south.

Forde is currently negotiating an extension to his deal at The Den and it is understood he is unlikely to move to a higher level unless he is guaranteed first-team football.

The 33-year-old told NewsAtDen earlier this month that he would "love to stay" in SE16.

@Omer Ronayne: Have to stress that have been a Fordey fan for years, true wall and has truly bettered himself as a player since his arrival to the Den and practically made himself a legend here. And no one more deserves a chance like this more than him. Just hate how we could lose a player of his quality for free, and it's not how it should be.

He certainly deserves recognition but he'll go for nothing if we don't sell him now. Either offer a good improved contract for immediate consideration or cash in.

TAKE 1.2 - 1.4 MIL FOR HIM DONT SEE WHY HE WOULDN'T BE WORTH THIS AS THERE ISNT MANY OTHER INTERNATIONAL NUMBER ONE GOAL KEEPERS THAT STAY FIT YOU CAN GET FOR THIS PRICE I NO TIME ISNT ON HIS SIDE BUT I SEE HE STILL HAS AT LEAST 3 YEARS LEFT AT THIS LEVEL AN FOR A CLUB LIKE CELTIC WHO PLAY CHAMPIONS LEAGUE FOOTBALL THIS WOULD BE A GOOD BARGAIN ALSO ON THE OTHER HAND MONEY WISE THIS WOULD HELP MILLWALL TO PUSH FORWARD NEXT SEASON ..... @Mo Slater Fruit and Veg: no club will pay over a million for a keeper they can get for free six months later when thy wouldn't even need him until then. Much better getting him on a new contract, he wouldn't be easy to replace

Get him signed for another year or 2 but with a price tag buy out clause. That way , everyone's a winner.

Celtic don't need him till the Summer but he has been a great keeper for us and has bided his time waiting for an opportunity to move up. Good luck to him, I wish him well in whatever decision he makes. Just don't move to Palace and maybe sign a contract extension so we can get some cash for him.

I have a slightly different slant on this than most of you. I appreciated Celtic is a massive club but would he be playing in a better league......er No! Every other week he will be playing in front of an attendance that is no more than 10000. Basically what he does now!. Maybe European football is the only thing that could be a draw, but if the move is fueled by a want to play at a higher level to safeguard his International number 1 status then a move to Celtic wouldn't be the one regardless if you play 5 champions league games a season.

@Windy: fraser forster got into the england squad playing for celtic,so why should that hinder forde chances at international level.
in his mind if he went to celtic he would have more chance of winning medals.
problem is if we give him a new contract at much higher wages, because celtic are showing an interest in him,and he dont go to celtic we will be paying him higher wages than we needed to.
      game of poker really.

Only sensible thing to do is put him up for transfer at Christmas and hope more than just Celtic are interested. I can't see him signing an extension as that will just mean Celtic have to pay a fee and that's not going to get him off on the right foot with them is it? Why Jackett hadn't extended his contract a year ago I really don't know, but then I am not sure that he valued Forde as highly as some of the the fans do. I don't think he's all that good, myself, but I know I am in a minority.

I agree with you completely mate. His heart is unquestionable, he does some great stuff but lets himself down with the basics of goalkeeping. Crosses and positioning. I really wish him well whatever he decides.

@Windsor Lion: The basics of goalkeeping are stopping the ball going in the net. There aren't many better in our league at that. Modern day goalkeepers are coached to punch the ball and imo that is why there are no dominant keepers anymore, no keeper who will come out with big hands, catch the ball and give his defenders a breather. Forde is probably no worse than most in this regard.

@lion.ie:Im told its a problem catching with the type of ball they play with these days it deviats quite a lot thats why keepers punch a lot more now.
but forde should come and punch more often around the 6 yard box.lets himself down a bit in that part of his game.

@jim1222: I don't believe that sh*te Jim, when you think of the balls in the 70's that weighed the same as a bag of bricks when they got a bit wet and the likes of Jennings and Corrigan would come and pluck them out of the air like they were apple picking, and with basic cotton gloves as well.

@Dazi: I can not think of any stand out candidates of the top of my head. What I will say is for me Forde is a decent, loyal keeper.... Nothing more, if we could command anything in the region of 500k-1m then that's good business for me. Yes Bywater is poor and I think that actually makes Forde look better than he is. Maik Taylor was easily as good and kept Forde out for long periods at the a*** end of his career.

One Case Of Stella he is not. For me at least.

Thinking about it I can not think of any Championship teams keepers names that are real quality apart from Green, Schmeichel and Almunia that are anything above decent.

It seems to me keepers are no longer characters as they were and are very forgettable at almost every level of football. Keepers were the equivalent of a great bands Drummer in the past, now they are the equivalent of the keyboard player.

    Only slightly related....
Most of you will remember Dave Martin, who decided Millwall wasn't good enough for him and 3 years ago signed for Derby.
He's still only 28 and today he signed for............. Dartford.

I assume Celtic need him for when they sell on.

Any of our kids any good ? If not there must be a few good 'uns in Lower leagues.
