Lomas defends Millwall's injury record after fan concerns

STEVE Lomas believes the number of injuries Millwall have suffered this season has been purely down to bad luck.

With so many players requiring a spell on the sidelines in recent months, Lions fans have raised concerns about the fitness levels within the squad.

Scott McDonald's pulled hamstring 48 hours before the Bolton defeat was the latest in a string of training-ground injuries.

But Lomas said: "We have been unlucky. If you look at Mark Beevers' injury, it was a twist. If you look at Scott Malone's, it's a fall and a twist.

"Thrown into that the suspensions we have had and three players needing surgery, you're talking at least eight or nine games where we've had to make changes.

"In fact, we've only been able to name the same team in two consecutive games – against Blackpool and Charlton. There's nothing you can do with impact injuries.

"Speaking to Bobby Bacic, we are down on muscle injuries from last year and people don't see that. We are having a bit of bad luck at the minute and we hope it readdresses itself."

I can see what Lomas is saying although I'm growing increasingly tired of all this "Bad Luck" talk. Bad luck with injuries, bad luck with referees, bad luck with red cards, not getting the rub of the green! 15 games in and only 3 wins! Surely that kind of form isn't all down to this "Bad Luck!" We need points and fast.

@kempo_123: when you really think about it,he is right when if you look at the lack of points its mainly down to player errors, most of which are schoolboy mistakes.[i would put it at around75%]lomas cannot be blamed for that.So now we know lomas is aware of NAD we need at least one championship quality CB.not getting one in so far is your fault sl,so if you do read this post, please dont take this as an attack on yuorself,as i have been a big supporter of you on NAD and amongst supporters in general.I still think you will come good, but please mr lomas a new CB is needed.

I'm very sure that Lomas and Hartford are looking for centre halves. We never know what's going on behind the scenes so we shouldn't assume that it's not being looked into. The Derry wages have gone on Moose because he was available. Feeney was supposed to have gone by now so presumably the money from his sale which hasn't materialised was earmarked for new players. Lomas is under a budget and he has to wheel and deal within that. The players we have that are obviously not in his plans ie: the main residue from Jackett will be difficult to shift and that's obviously proving to be the case.

@NICKOLA: your right about the behind the scenes bit, could the failure to get any decent CBs in be the reason our chief scout moved on,some people say what a good manager kj was,but he has left us with a lot of poor players, and imo if he had stayed at millwall we would be in a worse position than we are now.

@jim1222: The 'poor lot of players' still kept us in this division for the last few years. So does that make KJ a great manager or a bad manager? Depends what side of the fence you sit on. Facts are that we were well ahead last season of where we are now. KJ has nothing to prove to Lions fans whereas Lomas has it all to prove. The excuses are wearing thin at this stage and for me his failure to recognise the need for a quality centre half both on joining and since continue to dumbfound me and it seems that a lot of other posters on here are finally recognising this. I hope he succeeds long term, I really do, but still need a lot of convincing that he's up to the job.

@lion.ie: look at my post answering kempo,i agree about CB and i have said so,kj might have kept us up,but he left us lucky to be in the championship, with poor players on long contracts.did he stay to reap what he sowed.?
no he cut and ran if kj owes us nothing neither does lomas, apart from a CB.
lomas cant get rid of a lot of kj rubbish.but he brings in one bit of rubbish in derry and he gets slagged off.
did kj give malone a fair crack of the whip? no,but lomas did look at woolford he has come on under lomas
imo kj had lost it when wood did not sign he had no plan b.
and what ever success kj had it all went out the window when he left us in a bad way.
