PORTSMOUTH manager Guy Whittingham has revealed that John Marquis' loan spell at the club is set to be cut short prematurely.
Marquis was left out of the squad for Pompey's 3-2 victory over Exeter on Saturday and was seen leaving Fratton Park before the game with his belongings.
The 21-year-old has scored two goals in six appearances for the League Two side and only recently extended his stint on the south coast by a further month.
But it now seems the striker is heading back to The Den.
"It is not officially over but John was disappointed not to be in the squad," Whittingham told ExpressFM. "He's a young man who came in and did well given the situation we were in.
"Part of the reason for him coming in was that at the time we had a few injured players. They are now on their way back and I wanted those players in the squad moving forward.
"John has been a victim of circumstance because some players have come back earlier than expected, so what happens now we will have to wait and see.
"We've still got him for a month but I don't want him here if he doesn't want to be here. I've had a conversation with him and he's thinking about it. I'll put a call into Millwall to explain the situation and let them know what's going on."
