SHAUN Derry is the surprise favourite for the Notts County manager's job.
Derry is 4/1 on with some bookmakers to take charge of the League One outfit, who sacked Chris Kiwomya last week after a run of defeats left them bottom of the table.
The veteran midfielder, on loan at The Den from QPR, was born in Nottingham and begun his career at Meadow Lane as a trainee in 1995.
Asked about the Derry link by BBC Nottingham on Saturday, Magpies chief executive Jim Rodwell said: "I wouldn't have a bet at the moment – nobody is ruled in or out.
"Shaun's name is one that has come into contention but last week Danny Wilson was the red-hot favourite, so it ebbs and flows. I have no idea where these things come from.
"But Shaun is a name in the hat. He's had a fantastic playing career, he is well-thought of by Notts County fans but he's inexperienced.
"I'm not going confirm whether or not we've spoken to him – or anyone else. We're maybe a little bit closer to making an appointment but nothing is imminent.
"If we were to appoint an inexperienced manager, you would need to bring in someone with considerable experience of football at this level alongside him."
