Derry is bookmakers' favourite to be new Notts County boss

SHAUN Derry is the surprise favourite for the Notts County manager's job.

Derry is 4/1 on with some bookmakers to take charge of the League One outfit, who sacked Chris Kiwomya last week after a run of defeats left them bottom of the table.

The veteran midfielder, on loan at The Den from QPR, was born in Nottingham and begun his career at Meadow Lane as a trainee in 1995.

Asked about the Derry link by BBC Nottingham on Saturday, Magpies chief executive Jim Rodwell said: "I wouldn't have a bet at the moment – nobody is ruled in or out.

"Shaun's name is one that has come into contention but last week Danny Wilson was the red-hot favourite, so it ebbs and flows. I have no idea where these things come from.

"But Shaun is a name in the hat. He's had a fantastic playing career, he is well-thought of by Notts County fans but he's inexperienced.

"I'm not going confirm whether or not we've spoken to him – or anyone else. We're maybe a little bit closer to making an appointment but nothing is imminent.

"If we were to appoint an inexperienced manager, you would need to bring in someone with considerable experience of football at this level alongside him."

If true I don't think Derry would be a great loss

Good. He can take some of our s*** with him and get them off the wage bill. Give him a good budget County.

He's old and on a big wage - his experience would be a loss but I don't think we'd miss him much

Another player who wouldn't have been seen dead at Millwall unless he was in the twilight of his career.
On good money, doesn't put a shft in and is injury prone.
    Toodles.

It would be very ironic if he did go. I seem to remember Derry saying that playing for Millwall suits him perfectly as he lives 10 mins from the Bromley training ground......................... Do Notts County train in Catford ?

Maybe 'Arry will put in a good word for him and County will fall for it hook line and sinker, just like we did.

He would make a decent player/asst manager at NC, certainly not a championship midfielder.

This is great news and hopefully true. IMO Derry has been the only really poor signing Lomas has made. I wasn't happy when he joined and haven't seen any evidence to change my opinion. May have been a decent player in the past but clearly doesn't have the legs to play midfield anymore and hasn't put in one performance near what is expected of a millwall player. Prefer Abdou all day long!!!
