Lomas to discuss Millwall's start to the season with board

STEVE Lomas will discuss Millwall's poor start to the new season with the club's directors at a board meeting on Tuesday.

Chairman John Berylson is in the UK and will attend the Lions' matches against Blackpool and Charlton this week, with Lomas still searching for his first league win in charge.

And the Northern Irishman is due to meet with Berylson and the board prior to tomorrow's clash against the Tangerines to review the first six weeks of the campaign.

The board meeting, Lomas' presence and Berylson's arrival in the country are routine, with a source stating that "this date has been in the diary for a while."

@harryfabian: if we lose tomorrow nite & he's not sacked, I'm off to my local team bromley, at least they are winning & look fit , sorry but I won't be back to he's gone & taken those money for old rope assistants with him, ie Harford & the fat fitness coach or should I say fatness coach!

Not yet . . You have to wait for the 'the manager has our total backing' and 'I'm not going anywhere ' comments first . . Then you'll know he is on his way . . . The sooner the better . . He has made a mug of you JB
      Get rid of him now

I THINK THE BOARD WILL BE ASKING MANY QUESTIONS
LIKE HAVE YOU LOST THE DRESSING ROOM , AINT SEEN ANY PLAYER COME OUT AND BACK HIM YET , WHY .
WHY WAS ROBBO DROPPED , CLUB CAPTAIN ,
WHAT IS YOUR BEST 11 , DOES HE KNOW,
WHY DO THE PLAYERS LOOK HALF A YARD SLOWER THEN ANY OTHER TEAM WE HAVE PLAYED,
WHATS PLAN B , WHEN WE GO A GOAL BEHIND.
WHY IS THAT FITNESS COACH SO FAT
WHAT DOES MICK HARTFORD BRING TO THE PARTY
    ARE YOU OUT YOUR DEPTH

With JB attending the games and the crowd surely anti Lomas, unless we play brilliantly and get an early goal, I can't see him not giving him the sack.

Routine meeting or not he's timed it very well given the frankly abysmal start to the season.

Lomas is not even even money to be 1st Championship manager out, the bookies not often wrong.

The meeting should not be held until Wednesday morning. We have a home game on Tuesday and if we lose that the outcome should be obvious. I, like most, wasn't over the moon with the boards choice of Lomas but that was due to the lack of experience rather than his vermin connection. He has made some good signings but the team have had long enough to be match fit and have an understanding of each others games to be competitive but it just isn't happening. Do the right thing JB and get an experienced manager in now!

@aylesfordlion: None of us want another manager merry-go-round, but for whatever reason, his appointment clearly hasn't worked and the situation has become untenable.

My biggest worry once he goes is whether Ambler and the board are competent enough to appoint a decent enough replacement.

J.B.:Well Mr Lomas how do you think things are going so far.
Lomas. : Well we have gained 2 points so far that's more than we started with.
J.B. : how is your recruitment program going.
Lomas : we have brought in a number of players that nobody else wanted so I should be congratulated for saving DHSS from paying out and saving the country from recession.
J.B. and how do you see the future going.
Lomas : I think we should do very well in division 1 and even better in division 2.
J.B. OK keep up the good work.(thinks: this ground is ripe for developing into appartments).

As I said in a much earlier post, we'll find out what the players really think of Lomas tomorrow night. That's the key to all of this, if he can still get a performance out of them after Saturday then the players must have some respect for him, if not he's as good as gone.

@lion.ie: agreed a solid performance would suggest Saturday was a one off as we had looked better in the last 2 away games. However another poor performance suggests he's lost the dressing room, did he ever really have their support?

Maybe the players are scared to play at home now, hardly a supportive atmosphere currently. (I know we've got nothing to be happy about but negativity from crowd will only lead to continued rubbish from the players).

Be interested to see if we look a different team for away game at Charlton.

@MFC Lion: I thnk t the begining of Saturdays game we were behind the team as they looked quite lively. We went a goal behing very early and the team collapsed along with the support. WE all need to be psitive tonight. It is a huge game and we should ,but won't, get a large crowd in. I for one never boo theteam. I might scream at a bad pass or a poor attempt and call them w****** bt booing in my opinion is wrong.

Yeah it's been planned since we lost at home to Yeovil - I think JB is here to say you've got 2/3 games to get 4-6 points or sling your hook! At least with KJ there was often a reaction after a terrible result - this lot don't seem to give a t*** - half of them never want the ball!!

Off topic but did anyone else notice that we didn't have a right mid for 20-25 minutes in the 1st half? I was astounded that Lomas hadn't realised that Chaplow had permanently wandered into the middle. It was embarrassing to see our strikers continue to fill that whole just to provide any sort of width down there. Poor, poor management. Can't believe I have to endure this for another 8 months.

Millwall have to pull out all the stops tomorrow and show their true mettle. If they lose then at least go down fighting to the final whistle, not throw the towel in. Crunch time for SL if it turns out like Saturday. I supported him at the beginning but the club's survival comes first . I hope we get a better referee too (are there any?) than that half-wit on Saturday.

Very poor appointment from the start so whether its before the match or after and whatever the result even if its a win the bloke has got to go.

Also ANDY AMBLER please note, when Lomas goes please don't come out on Lions World with all that crap like you did last time about the high quality of applicants putting in for the job because ending up like we did this time with a straight choice between Steve Kean & Steve Lomas, shows that the board ended up with totally the wrong 2 candidates for our club or the quality was not there at all in the first place.

If Lomas does get the boot, who can you seriously see us getting in? I can't think of anyone I'd have. No-one of any calibre is going to leave their club to take over our lot! Bottom of the table and no money to work with. I think we stick with SL for now. Bringing in someone else will not solve anything.

If they decide to end his reign which i think was a mistake in the first place you have too think who can replace him these are the odds:

    Neil Harris 2/1
    Karl Robinson (MK Dons) 16/1
    Tim Sheerwood 16/1
Dennis Wise and Steve McClaren 20/1
Boothroid (Northampton), Howe (bournemouth), Poyet and Jackett 33/1

    I think Mcghee

What I feel is Millwall need a financial backer to buy our way out of trouble. we cannot carry on on this elastic shoe string we're using at the moment
No matter who is the manager is No Money to spend means :-----
Relegation, even less revenue than we're on at the moment, eventually as time passes another filing for administration and a ten point or more deduction and even less chance of survival
Could Millwall go the same way as another local team to me (Nunhead United) they had no money and went out of existance
I can only see progress with investment in the team
JB, AA, and SL should all go as they are taking the piddily diddily each game

I am going on record to say that I don't think SL has had enough time yet, I know this will generate hails of derision but 6 weeks is not time at all. I would argue that he maybe was too inexperienced to have been offered the job in the first place, but now the club has taken him on and invested in the squad on his request, we have to stick with him a bit longer and back the decision to employ him. Performances have been improving up till Saturday and before that game we were starting to feel more positive. I agree with comments above, SL's future now lies with the players and how they respond. If they come out fighting then we have to assume that SL has their support and there is still a chance he can turn it round. I would give him 3 more games to show improvement both in performances and results. Derbies (The Anoraks) are a complete lottery and therefore not a fair bench mark on how the team is progressing.

i think if its a poor crowd tomorrow , i think the board will have no choice , with reduced tickets , they cant lose more fans of the gate , with players on big money , the gates have gone down every home game so far , which would say he has lost the fans , if he does go i for one cant think of any one who will want it , we have a great squad , BUT WHOS OUT THERE I JUST DONT KNOW.

We'd be foolish to replace SL now , he's had 5 minutes in the job. Last summer the board apparently deliberated for ages , interviewed several candidates & SL was the pick of the bunch. Why do we think there's all of a sudden a better man out there now ? The Millwall job is similar to the England one by way of , the best coaches don't fancy it and we end up with 2nd best.........

My thoughts are that he should go now . . The club have to weigh up what is going to cost the most . . Sacking him or being relegated . . Both are going to cost us a fortune . . He has clearly demonstrated that he doesn't have a clue . . I accepted a couple of losses at the start but enough is enough now . . The excuses are getting as bad as the teams performance . . The term 'dead man walking' comes to mind every time he comes out with the bull s*** . . The club must bring in a proper manager and cut their loses . . You have to speculate to accumulate . . Bomber's not the answer either . . The trouble is though J B is a businessman and they don't normally like to admit they are wrong . . Trust me block 8 like most of us here I wanted him to do well but the wellbeing of Millwall has to come first

Lomas is finished; he is dead man walking simply living on borrowed time. If we win tomorrow tonight I fear it will simply prolong our agony with this awful nightmare start to the season so far. I just cannot believe he has got away with impersonating a football manager for this long but without the real brains behind St. Johnston success – Tommy Wright, he has been well and truly shown up to be a complete imposter.

I am so disappointed in the Board at Millwall, I really thought they had some intelligence and would be able to see right through SL’s sound bites and cliché nonsense and take it for what it is; empty meaningless talk, but instead they taken in by it, seduce by his internet knowledge of our players and of course because unlike Babbel – he was able to meet Berylson’s ego halfway in Paris which of course impressed him and again added yet another layer of Lomas illusion in getting the role.

How can a person who managed St. Neots in non-league for one year and two years in the SPL league (league one standard at best) is suddenly qualified to manage a team in one of the most toughest and competitive divisions in Europe is just beyond me. I sincerely hope Berylson and Ambler set about putting this right asap a pull the trigger on Lomas. Put Fitzgerald and Harris in temporary charge and bring in a far far better qualified candidate for the managerial post because no fan can take much more of this circus that’s been happening at the Den since the season started.

And I definitely don’t like Mick Hartford being at the club in any sort of coaching or managerial role because he is a bad omen! He was coaching our strikers during Millwall’s most recent relegation season debacle in our 2005 – 2006 season. Lets end this toxic duo once and for all and move forward before all of Kenny’s solid groundwork is simply dug up and discarded. Don’t even get me started on that pathetic excuse of a ‘fitness coach’ either. What the hell is happening to our club?!

If Berylson removes Lomas, the only person getting the job albeit on a caretaker basis, is Harris.

Will be a shame to see Bomber handed a poisoned chalice like that, I would rather the guy is given a chance to get experience as a coach and then take over our club. If you think SL is inexperienced how could we honestly expect Bomber to do any better? Yes he knows the club inside out but all the best will in thw world will not make up for experience. I hate myself for saying it, but Neil Warnock is looking like a good option......I hate myself!@NICKOLA:

I thought SL made some good signings in the summer but his tactical knowledge is zero and he seems to have lost the dressing room. 23 players used in six games and he wants to rush Morison back when Waghorn and McDonald do ok together on Saturday, while Trotter sat on the bench watching Bailey, Chaplow and Derry do f*** all tells me that perhaps it is time to him to go back to the Walt Disney leagues in Scotland.

Signing Derry was a backwards decision in my opinion, too short term and I am not sure that he brings more to the party than Trotter could, when he is fit. Biggest concern is the lack of foration discipline and coordination, the various parts of th team are not playing as a whole and as such we see incosisten performances across the park from game to game.@SingleWhiteLion:

Well, I think it's NOW safe to say that the parade has been soundly p***** on ! Peeps calling for Harris to take charge just because of his connection with the club are totally deluded, a move like that could finish both him & M.F.C ! Connection?.... Billy Neil ! See, it's getting silly. This ginger herb is here now on a contract and I don't think the club, given the money already spent (in temporary players wages), can afford to pay him off ! Just have to stand back & see, as has always been the case when following this club. Long gone are the day's when Micky Purser's windows would get stoved in !

JB: So, Steve what the hell is going on?
SL: Well the players I inherited are stale and some of them have got the raving hump because they now they're not going to play much and will end up being loaned out to some League One or League Two side with more money than sense.
JB: I hear through the grapevine that some of you don't like, how shall I put it, your no nonsense management style?
SL: Well, as I'm sure Kenny told you before he did a runner, some of them need a rocket up their a***. I'm big enough and more than ugly enough to take all the flak from the fans, but some of the players are scared ****less and couldn't pass water. They need to man up and treating them with kid gloves isn't going to help.
JB: A little bird tells me you haven't done much work on defending set-pieces?
SL: Our defence was one of the best in the League last season and my priority, as previously discussed, was to improve our attacking play.
JB: But we've hardly scored any goals
SL: Well Morro's been injured, MacDonald wasn't match fit and Waghorn scored on his debut so I think there's light at the end of that particular tunnel.
JB: Are you sure it's not the League One train hurtling towards us?
SL: No, we're too good to go down. If we all stick together things will turn-around
JB: Okay Steve, could you wait outside for a moment.
JB (to the rest of the board), So what the hell do we do now? Wait until after tomorrow's game, then sack him and put Bomber in charge? He's not ready, is he? That Guy Poyet guy seems popular on News At Den, but Brighton bombed him out for being a self-obsessed, ego maniac so I'm not sure he'd go down to well here? Plus, we're skint and by the time we've paid Lomas, Harford and co off we won't have a pot to p*** in? Come on fellas, help me out here.
TROTB: Don't drag us into it. We're a faceless bunch of muppets who wouldn't know the right thing to do if it kicked us in the face
JB: Okay, let's wait until after we've been publically humiliated by Charlton live on Sky and then give it to Bomber. He could make that Derry guy his assistant, he's been around a bit, hasn't he? He'd be cheap as well and only lives up the road from the training ground.
    TROTB: Brilliant plan Mr Chairman!
JB: Okay, Steve you can come back in. Right, the board and I have discussed everything and we're 100 per cent behind you
SL: S***! I'll get my coat!

For me the scariest thing about this whole situation is that people are talking about Warnock again. Only one man for me now if Lomas can't pull it around, Alex Rae. It's no coincidence that Blackpool have gone through the roof since he joined, Ince hasn't gone from a waste of space manager to a genius overnight. JB should lock Alex in a cupboard tomorrow night and not let him out until he agrees to stay.

I think if Berylson has any intention of ridding us of Lomas, he has (not the club) the finances to pay him and his drongos off. It's whether he believes it would be worth it and what his long term intentions for Millwall Football Club are. I like the idea of Pulis and Kemp to replace Lomas and Harford. They done a job with a Stoke City going nowhere. It wasn't always pretty, but it was pretty effective.

I was one that was all for giving Lomas a chance to prove himself, forget his past, lets see what he can do. Well it is now obvious that he is way out of his depth. I had read before we signed him that it was Tommy Wright at St Johnston that really ran the show. Lomas gave it "I understand Millwall fans etc etc" No he doesn't, We expect the 11 players on the pitch to give 100% every game, we expect them to die trying. We have had none of that. First problem is that we need Robbo on the pitch, Shittu may have had some good games, but Robbo leads by example and as captain expects the same. He is real wall. Sl has brought in some decent players, experienced pro's that should have stopped the rot. Just the fact that he is considering playing a not fit Morrison, when he has two strikers that played well together, Waghorn and McDonald, shows his poor decision making. Although it would cost to get rid of Lomas, surely it would cost less than the money we would lose playing in League one. We need an experienced Championship manager to mould the players we now have into a decent team, which I beleive is possible. So we make not like the Warnocks or Poyets, but they would do the job. The fans make the den a place were other teams dont like coming, not because of the morons throwing things at players, but because of the noise we can make and the atmosphere we create, so JB put things right so we once again concentrate on scaring the sh*t out of other teams not our own team because we have a manager who is clueless.

SL has to go for a couple of reasons.

    1. Unless we are fighting for promotion/ top 10 football our fans will never accept a guy with as many west ham connections. Whether this is good or bad is irrelevant.

    2. He seriously seems to struggle with his tactical deployment of the team, like has been said before in this post he plays Chaplow in right midfield who drifts into the middle (because by trade he is a CM) and leaves a massive whole which enables the left back from whoever we are playing to run onto the edge of our box.

    3. More tactical deficiencies include us not seeming to have a midfield at all, our strikers and defenders seem exposed at all times which forgive me if I'm wrong seems a little bemusing.

    4. We can not hold onto to possession for more than 6 passes, Yeovil for god sake passed around us like we were statues.

    5. Obviously during the numerous hours spent training and perfecting our team unit not 10 minutes is spent defending set pieces.

    6. The team do not seem to be a TEAM.

    7. We have the oldest squad in the division and have played more players than anyone else.

    8. He is Ginger.

Myself and the wife and 3 kids are travelling done again for the Blackpool game but I can see nothing but defeat and that's heartbreaking. I want nothing more than a team I'm proud of and a team that will work their nuts off. Unfortunately come 2130 tomorrow evening when I'm on my way to work for my night shift, I'm going to be as let down and embarrassed as I was on Saturday.

    COYL.

There needs to be a massive response from the players tonight and prove they are worthy of wearing our clubs shirt. Robbo MUST start and i'm sure the players will feed off of him in the dressing room and on the pitch as in the past. I said when Lomas was appointed i'd give him 10 games to gel these new boys together and i still will ( i understand everyone's frustration and was there Saturday too) JB has backed us to the hilt and we need to stay positive and support our team regardless tonight and show the players that we are behind them rather than S*****g them off every 5 seconds. I want to see Robbo and Dunny in the back row tonight for stability. Team i'd play would be,

    Forde.
    Dunny, Robbo, Beever, Malone.
    Bailey, Trotter, Chaplow, Woolford
    McDonald, Waghorn.

I'll be dashing down the M25 A21 from work to make it and expect at least a draw tonight and some passion and balls from the 11 starting.

I stress again, back the players rather than s*****g them off and if they don't respond to the backing in a positive manor we've got a massive problem come Saturday come local derby day.

Alas we have fallen between two very bad stools. KJ had accumulated a group of steady-eddies, who were 'good in the dressing room' - the problems only arose when they came out onto the pitch - with loads of heart and effort but no skill or flair - Forde, Dunne, Robinson and Jimmy being the classic examples- lovely blokes but professional footballers?
To this he mananged to take good players e.g Trotter, Keogh and Henry and somehow stifle them into the same bland, boring defensive mediocrity - but fit and well-organised enough, until in the end our complete lack of ability to see and make a pass - or even take a throw-in or corner, was sussed out - then KJ is off pronto!!
SL has added to this heady mix, by blowing the family silver on a group of old slow-coaches with the result that we now have a very one-paced, unorganised, unfit, mediocre group who believe me would struggle in any competitive league, because competetive is what we ain't!
Despite all the problems it will bring, SL has to go now or we shall be relegated - and dont imagine with him and this team we shall hang around in league 1 for long - Torquay here we come!

With one or two pacy additions- particularly in the middle and down the flanks, I still think a decent manager would get this team nearer the top of the table than the bottom- I will leave it to others to name names but SL go now - Wrong -wrong -wrong!!

The crowd, all 5000 of them will be slagging the players from the off. I imagine its no fun to play at the Den at the moment, and with the morons throwing stuff and running on the pitch, I am afraid JB will lose the will to carry on. If that happens its see you later MFC. Although I was all for giving him a chance, Lomas has got to go, the fans hate him, the players seem confused and low in confidence and another loss against Blackpool will see the back of him. God knows what Harford and Bomber are doing in the background, cos nothing seems to work at the moment. And please don't ask for Harris to be manager if SL is sacked. That will definitely be the end of us in Championship.

Look im all for the Bomber coming back to the den as hes a legend down there but judging from the Stands nobody down there noes weather they are coming are going Lomas hasn't got a clue and Harris needs help on training ground giving him Temporary charge im afraid to say wont help the problem it will just be like another Alan Shearer at Newcastle. Everybody can see what we lack and that's somebody who can get a half decent team to put the ball down on the floor an play for each other as much as Alan Curbishley is an Ex Hammer an Charlton Manager who would be ideal he noes he stuff and every were hes gone hes proven on a strict budget at charlton he turned them into a premiership team weather he would take a risk joining us because of our reputation is another story.. Something needs to be done Quickly because if by Christmas were still at the bottom i don't see us becoming 3 rd time lucky this year.!

Our food and drink is NOT good enough
SAFE parking around the ground is ESSENTIAL
We need some GOOD looking Police Horses and Dogs

    Re our players:
Forde needs to play like last season NOT the season before
    CANCEL Bywasters contract
Lowry is a LIABILITY at left back, play him at centre back or get rid
Give Malone half a dozen games at left back NOW
Shittu needs to be DROPPED until he has LOST 2 to 3 stone
Robbo needs to be brought in and LEAD from the front
Jimmy is a squad player NOT a first team player any more
Trotter needs to SHOW his immense talent EVERY week
Chaplow has a lot of ability but needs to be played in the centre of midfield NOT right wing
James Henry has to give 100% EVERY game or clear off in January
Andy Keogh has lost it, he needs to be sold in January
SEND Osborn, Marquis and Obrien out on loan NOW
