Report: Brighton 1-1 Millwall

TEN-MAN Millwall were denied their first win of the season by Leonardo Ulloa's late equaliser at the Amex Stadium.

Martyn Woolford fired the Lions ahead shortly after half time but right-back Alan Dunne was sent off with 15 minutes to go, putting the visitors on the back foot.

And after wave after wave of attacks, the Seagulls finally drew level when Ulloa turned in Kazenga LuaLua's cross as the far post.

Millwall made seven changes following their midweek defeat to Nottingham Forest.

Dunne, Danny Shittu, Shane Lowry, James Henry, Shaun Derry and Richard Chaplow were all recalled to the side, but the headline team news was the return of goalkeeper David Forde after a knee injury.

Liam Trotter and Jermaine Easter were back on the bench after injury.

The two sides cancelled each other out in the first half, with neither creating a clear-cut chance or having a noteworthy effort on goal, but, as the away side, Millwall were certainly happier at the break.

And the Lions came out after the interval with a spring in their step and they were immediately on the front foot. In the 46th minute, Henry shot narrowly http://www.ordergenericpropeciaonline.com over the bar after an exchange of passes with Scott McDonald.

McDonald then weaved his way into a shooting position, but his effort was snuffed out by three Albion defenders.

But the breakthrough duly arrived in the 50th minute. Richard Chaplow brought down McDonald's flick and rolled the ball into the path of Woolford, who steadied himself before sweeping home.

Brighton had a penalty appeal turned down in the 66th minute, after which Andrew Crofts curled just wide from the edge of the area as the home side came back strongly.

McDonald then went on another mazy run and set up Woolford, but this time his shot was comfortable for 'keeper Tomasz Kuszczak.

Ulloa thought he'd equalised in the 73rd minute when he glanced in Andrea Orlandi's free-kick, but referee Bobby Madley blew up for a foul on Mark Beevers.

But the game turned on Madley's next decision, which was to show Dunne a second yellow card for a tackle on Kazenga LuaLua. The defender had earlier been booked for time wasting.

Spurred on by their man advantage, Brighton poured forward in search of a late leveller and it finally arrived when Ulloa converted LuaLua's low cross.

Delighted with the result, would have loved us to win but blamed my brother for ringing me up when they scored! (He's a bock lol) Good the defence held up under massive pressure despite their late equaliser, maybe if Dunne had not got sent off we may have held on. Hope Trotter and Easter come through ok. As for the moment i think the signs are looking better.

Dunne has been quality so far this season. How people can seriously s*** him off is a joke. Blokes Millwall through and through, always battles, never shirks a challenge always gives 100%. Not the most gifted of players but someone you need in the squad at least. Some of our so called supporters haven't got a f****** clue, or are about 12 years old which wouldn't surprise me considering the total lack of knowledge by a lot of people who comment on this site.

        @beedoscores:
We all know dunne is never going to be one of our best players, and yes if we are going to move forward we need to get a better right back. BUT, we tried to replace him with Adam smith, which worked briefly, until we worked out smith couldn't defend. Also we have tried to replace him with jack smith, and that didn't work either. Dunne has never complained about being on the bench, he's played where ever he has been asked to over the years, fully committed, doesn't take any s***, never bottles a challenge. He deserves to see out his career with us if he wants to, and if he doesn't mind eventually havin to be a squad player. You haven't got a scooby about Millwall mate so do yourself a favour, f*** off and stop talking s***, ok?

@TheBermondseyBomber: Spot on mate. Dunne had a good game all in all. Second booking was b******* as he went for the ball and as usual the Brighton player fell over. I had a good view of it. The Brighton players were all at it. It was a good game for us at first. Good playing to the feet and no long balls. Great to see Fordey back! Chaplow is like a ninja and seemed to be everywhere. Bailey is tough and goes for it, getting stuck in and chasing balls. Woolford must be reading this site, cos he's playing with real purpose and making himself available. McD is gifted, but had no chance against men twice his size and he was on his own up front (tactics? ). Ref was a fool and I'm sure is a Palace fan. Gave away almost every decision to the gulls. Our downfall was tactics (again ). Brighton were there for the taking today, but we played too defensively. No one attacking them when they had the ball and we appeared to be happy to let them come at us. The goal at the end was inevitable as we just caved in after Dunne went off. Overall a good display of things to come IMHO. Bad points; Henry can do one and take his lazy backside away from my Wall. No idea and bad attitude. Surprised he didn't get sent off for reckless challenges after he had been dispossessed yet again. Derry can go as well. Offers nothing and has no legs. If only we had a team of players like Chaplow ....... Good to see a big turn out for us and we were in fine song. Can't say the same about the gulls as they only seemed to sing at the end....COYL!

I haven't read all the posts so forgive me those of you that have defended Allan dunne
His second yellow was a joke of a decision and one which the ref was looking for all second half, admittedly his sending off cost us today but the football was much better the best I've seen this season, very organised and the back for although not very good actually tried to pass to one of our players. Before ADs red they had nothing.
Positives - forde, back line looks more confident with him in goal and he pulled off an absolute peach just before they scored.
Shittu - best game for a long time dropping him half time last week was a master stroke by SL.
Derry - looked very good on the ball and rarely made a mistake.
Bailey - bags of energy always available for the ball, although wasn't outstanding.
Chaplow - his usual energetic busy self.
Woolford - actually looks quite good in this formation with a decent midfield.
McDonald - superb my MOTM busy energetic strong always available really good player.
Abdou - done well and tried his best when he came on.
    Negatives -
We sat back so much when down to ten men and tbh we didnt need to we let em at us and got done for it.
We had a corner in injury time and sent a few up top but played it short when I think we should have took the chance.
Overall I'd take the draw but yet again lualua has fecked us again and walking out it felt disappointing.
Much better and nice to see us playing football
Have a look at our goal it was very good football.
Last but not least a positive mention to stevie lomas finally evidence of what he's trying to do for us. Slow progress but looking much much better.
    Well done wall.

Great performance from the team today. Set out to stop the Gulls playing early on and created a fair few chances ourselves. Quality of the crosses in the first half poor, but players trying hard to get on the end of them...a great improvement on some of the early performances.
McDonald was superb today. Up against much taller opposition he showed that he had the skill and commitment to take players on and led the line well. Woolford played out of his skin and Chaplow again proved what a great addition to the squad he is. The central midfield pairing of Bailey and Derry were solid and broke up the play well.
I was disappointed Dunne was sent off, but we've seen it coming. His performances have been great this season, but he doesn't always engage his brain when playing. The referee had given several warnings about timewasting throughout the game and was just waiting to show a card. The second yellow was more unfortunate as Derry left the ball, to Dunne when he should have cleared the lines himself. However, instead of just blocking the ball Dunne appeared to put his whole body into Lualua...who just swan-dived over the top!
A point gained in my opinion, that could so easily have been three (they'd never have broken us down 11 v 11). However, more encouraging was the general levels of energy and commitment all round. Keep it up Steve!

Perhaps the ref should have booked dunne in the first half as that may have given him the warning that he ain't gonna take any s***.
Your right mate 11 v 11 I thought Brighton weren't in it, they had nothing to offer. Think it's a very good point for us. Wished we didn't fit do deep with ten men, we were asking for trouble and we certainly got it.
Lets hope for much of the same against derby and we're due a win against b.pool

If you look at Dunne's second yellow it was or should have been Derry's ball, I blame Derry for Dunne having to clean up Derry's mess, problem was Dunne half pulled out of the challenge (he was probably thinking about his first yellow card, which was unnecessary, it was for time wasting, which again looked OTT from the ref!).

We dont deserve to be 23rd in the table we have played really well in most games this season the luck has just not been there for us. Our performances have been 10000 times better than last year. As for today a great performance from the team Dunney i felt was harshly treated by the reft but whats new. The tide is changing and we are getting rewards for out performances. As for Lomas he is doing great job just that the table doesnt show that but we with the games ive seen which is most we could well be in mid table victory in 2 weeks v Derby who got beat 3-0 at home to Burnley today COYL!!!!!!!! One last thing great to see Fordey back

A point is fantastic, especially at the Amex! If we were mid table/top of the league before the game and ended up coming a way with a point from brighton we'd be chuffed! Too much negativity on here... We are bottom of the league, but a point from the seaside in the long run is top draw! Lomas, keep it up, we're getting better each week!
