Millwall striker Morison undergoes surgery on double hernia

MILLWALL frontman Steve Morison is set for a spell on the sidelines after undergoing surgery on a double hernia.

Morison missed the Lions 2-2 draw with Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday and manager Steve Lomas confirmed after the game that the 29-year-old had gone under the knife.

James Henry (illness) and Jermaine Easter (hamstring) were also absent.

"It is very disappointing," Lomas said. "Morison will be the biggest problem – he has a double hernia which has hopefully been fixed today.

"I won't know how long Stevie will be out for until we've spoken to the surgeon and found out exactly what's wrong.

"Jermaine had a tweaked hamstring and didn't feel 100 percent. With Stevie already out, we just couldn't risk losing another striker for a period of time. James will be okay, he just had a little stomach complaint."

DnG gets his chance to prove himself or will SL try to bring in Dicko?
Injuries to key players are not what we need now.

Might explain his slow start. If he comes back like the player he was before he will be an asset in the long term.

I agree , everyone at the club must've known about it. Perhaps they tried to hold the op for Morison until Trotter was available. Morison has started like someone carrying an injury , probably why Leeds were happy to move him on as well.

@Block 8: They would not have signed him with an injury of this nature and he needed to pass a medical, even for a season long loan. Just one of those things. Four weks minimum recovery and another couple at least before he's back in the side. As Lionking has said, about eight weeks probably.

Do we still pay loaned players wage when they are injured or does it go back to their club to pay?

@dave: I'm not even going to bother to get into a debate with you about it. If you believe that we can afford to lose a proven goalscorer when we are one point from four games, without a goal from open play, then there is really no point.

@lion.ie: if he has been carrying a hernia which got worse then he will never be able to do himself or the club justice. Better to get it fixed ASAP as a fit SM is a great player at this level.

@Longfield Lion: We don't need yet another midget. The team is crying out for a good target man and should one arrive you'll see the very best out of Morison - which you'll never all the time he's played in that role because it's not one he can play. A target man would also be a big help to MacDonald who would also thrive with someone taking the physical pressure off him and making him room to play.

Surely the pre-signing medical should have picked up an hernia, the club are not checking out these players properly and all the injuries are being hidden on purpose. I know SM hasn't had a good start maybe thats own to him with holding information from the doctors ........ in the mean time get back soon and get back to the old SM form banging in goals on a regular basis

Right personally i couldnt give a rats a**e about the capital one cup, yes its nice to have a cup run and reap some profits from it too but this yr i would treat it as an opportunity to to play a good old fashioned 4-4-2 formation but play a reasonably strengthed side all in there "natural" positions then after next week f••k derry off back to dagenham redknapp. Then after the cup hopefully SL would have learned everything he needs to know about his best formation, and where the weaknesses are going forward (even though hes had preseason and now 4 games to suss it out) as still no goals from open play.... But well done wall an ugly point but a point well deserved!!!

Why does everything always have to be someone at the club's fault? I'm sure the medical was thorough enough. It's a blow but it's just one of those things - footballers get injuries.

Given the lack of goals from the team, taking someone like sharp on loan would be crazy to turn down. Keogh, Easter, N'Guessan and Marquis will be unlikely to get a combined total of double figures this season. If the board can fund a striker whilst Morison is out we should get one.

@wonky thicklips: You're spot on re the loan, this is exactly when we should be spending the loan money, not on 35yo last chance Charlies. However, we don't need a Billy Sharp we need somebody to really mess the oppo backs about to give our little fellas the room to play. At the risk of taking the wrath of the 'vermin haters' I'd take the free agent Carthorse Cole for a couple of months on a pay as you play deal, or at least somebody similar.

I don't think we can play a combination of Easter, Keogh or McDonald up front together for 2 months. McDonald in particular would benefit from a tall forward as a partner. KJ was after Gary Madine from Sheff Wed last season but pulled out when he found at he was due to appear in court on an assault charge. He wasn't in their starting line up yesterday or on the subs bench. If he isn't in clink or injured he might be worth trying to get on loan because he is 6ft 3inches tall and would provide flick ons and knock downs for McDonald or Easter.

Talksport are all over the "Forgot to bring the kit" issue this morning. Listening in from 6am at work and they must have mentioned it on five occasions now! So unproffesional. Kit man needs disciplining in my opinion! Especially when all he needs to sort is kit! Training gear, balls and maybe a few cones! D*******! Its like being a driving instructor and turning up to give a lesson without your f****** car!

This is the first time in many years that I heard of this happening, give Adrian W a break guys, he is one of us and getting plenty of stick from outside sources. It's time to close ranks and defend the poor bloke. FYI from what I heard he didn't forget the kit, they brought a kit but the ref would not allow it as it clashed with Sheffield's. these things do happen and I am sure he is plenty embarrassed with out us adding to it.

Regarding the kit, far too many people talking with authority about something they know nothing about.
Anyone saying "we forgot the kit" or "how do you miss the orange kit" needs to go find out the facts first, before slagging anyone off.

We will miss Morison, neither of McDonald, Keogh or Easter like to play on the shoulder, and against Weds we saw what happens when no one wants to hold the line, a lack of bodies in the box leading to good possession but no cutting edge.

I think nothing should happen to Mr kit man. Why ? , if we disciplined everyone who made a genuine mistake , for one ,Bywater would be on a written warning for their equaliser. Does every mis placed pass get a discipline too ? Come on lads , lighten up , we're all human and in this together.

@millwallphil: Baldock and Dagnall aren't the type of forward we need and are also midgets. If you have your way we'll finish up with a forward line like the seven dwarfs. Wells would cost more money than this club would ever pay and I'd daresay he's happier playing front of 14000 silent northerners with whippets down their pants doing a blowjob while a fog of curry drifts across from the Third World that is the town of Bradford. Much better than having to deliver to the most demanding and best supporters in the world ( a dying breed I'll admit as they are gradually being ethnically cleansed from the club by the establishment and helpful grasses)

@Old_Les: Les, you seem to keep going back to this, you have even accused me of being a grass in the past. I don't know how to say this without coming across as a berk, but I'm sure if you met me, you would know that is very far from what I am. It is for the likes of your friend on a day out and Bigales nephew that I condemn some of our so called supporters. I've no doubt that some innocent people did react to the situation that they found themselves in. It is not them that me and others have condemned, it's the half wits who are the catalyst for what happened. I love Millwall, for the passion, the spirit and dare I say even the intimidation we can muster. I used be regular to away games, we'd plot up in a local pub or club and enjoy ourselves, we'd behave ourselves, but, any one who fancied a pop would soon be told (or find out) they were better off finding something else to do, most of the time we'd just have a f****n good laugh. We were never bullies or cowards which is exactly what some of these people are.

@Adsy77777: thing is watching us row with each other is EXACTLY what the media twats want, good to see proper debate on this site and generally with respect. A lot of intelligent comments are posted on this site and although I don't agree (or understand) all of the comments I know that our regulars are decent bloke/women. COYL

@Old_Les: Les for a man of many years as your username suggests you really are, or at least come across as a soppy old, out of date tit. Sometimes you have decent points BUT you constantly render them redundant with your draconian views. Tut.

@Eightieswall: old Les is fast becoming a sage on this site, bed side manner might be lacking but he often reflects a well thought out view
