Club captain Robinson hoping to earn recall to Millwall side

CLUB captain Paul Robinson insists he is ready to handle the physical demands of Championship football.

Robinson has not played a league game for the Lions since September 2012 but is fully fit again after battling back from a string of injuries.

And the 31-year-old, who has been on the bench for Millwall's three games so far, is now hoping to make his first start of the season against Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday.

"You have got to respect the fact that Mark Beevers and Danny Shittu both had excellent seasons last year," said the centre-back.

"But I've not missed a training session and my body feels better than I expected it to. I feel I have a lot of offer, not just in terms of how I play but also my leadership qualities.

"Dave Jones always has Wednesday well organised. They're a big, strong team and it will be a tough game."

Robinson sees no reason to panic despite Millwall's losing start to the campaign and believes it is only a matter of time before results pick up.

"We are disappointed with the goals we've conceded from set pieces," he said. "They were sloppy goals, especially against Ipswich.

"There is very little between the teams at this level, the games are very tight so it is important we stay mentally strong and focused. We need to be the team scoring the goal from a set piece rather than giving it away.

"Against Huddersfield we were much the better team in the first half but unfortunately for us we didn't score when we were on top. It seems like when we don't get it right at one end, we get it wrong at the other and that's cost us.

"They are little details but you need to get those right to get the edge in games; we're playing quite good football and we are not far away.

"The manager's energy is infectious and the mood is still very positive."

I think we have missed Robbo more than most people realise. He may not be quickest or best defender in the league but he's our club captain for a reason. Hope to see you starting on Saturday #COYL

@Surrey Lion: too true, I said from the start that I would favour Robbo over Shittu just because I think he is a more versatile player.

Good luck Robbo drive wall back into that squad, drop Shitu he looks slower than he did last season, onwards and upwards. Ask the fans to support the club and manager not wreck it, we have a good team when we get off to a good start not many teams will beat us, we will be ok .

@NICKOLA: quite right, get him working hard to win his spot back rather than thinking he's a shoe in after last seasons performances.

As much as Shittu was immense last season, he has started poorly this season, and we need Robbo back in the side. Robbo and Beevers for me, good competition though. I would also like to see Malone get a chance

If you come in for Shittu Robbo, who will come in for Beevers and Lowry? We need 3-4 players of you ilk to stop leaking sloppy goals. In Robbo We Trust.

@WestKentLion: Lowry and Beevers are both left side CB's really so they should be vying for the same position. Agree Malone deserves a chance though, Lowry has had a poor start.

See that we're being linked with Stephen Hunt, the Wolves winger now out of contract. Henry's replacement ?
On the way to completely changing the starting eleven from last season. Do we have enough time to gel it all together ?

@NICKOLA: Nick, only seen this on the talksport website (which is less than reliable) we have no money available and I'd imagine he'd be on a fair whack.... just talk I reckon.... hows that crystal ball of yours?? what do you think?

I see Lomas talking to Berylson and asking for more dosh. Berylson saying not a chance, you'll have to get rid of a few if you want more to come in. I do see some movement based on getting rid of some but time might run out...........

@Peckhamlad: Shittu won't be getting any better, he's the same player as last year, slow and clumsy with bad positional sense, but he's added getting easily beaten in the air at set pieces to his game.

Right - I've been on holiday and missed the first 3 games - so as far as i'm concerned the season hasn't started and we've just given everyone a head start. - Looks like Millwall are doing the usual in getting our hopes up only to let us down big time as usual - i Pity Lomas at the moment - by my reckoning he has 2 games to turn this around - or he's out.

Berylson isn't going to fire anyone after 5 games, nor is Lomas going to quit. As bad as it is at the moment, I take solace from the fact that it can only get better, and I'm sure that's the thinking in the boardroom.

@NICKOLA: I think a few of the people on here have very short memories. If you go back to before KJ you can see the results of having no patience with the managers, and each time one left there was a worse one waiting to come in.They fitted revolving doors at the Den so the old managers could leave quicker and the new ones get in easier. We were the laughing stock of the FL. So if anyone thinks things will be any different this time then they are seriously deluded (IMO). Be careful for what you wish for because it may just happen.

We need a settled side, the reason for our poor form is too many players are being used. I don't think that SL knows his best 11 yet!! Robbo although Millwall through and through is no better than Shittu or Beavers and certainly won't be our saviour!!!! WE NEED GOALS!!!!!!

@leemark: we lose possession too easily with Shittu whereas Robbo has better distribution and aerial dominance.

@leemark: Sorry, but that's nonsense. Robbo is a far better player than Beevers and has much more to offer than Shittu than being the big lump at the back.

Robinson and Beevers for me. Shittu looks a yard slower than last year and Beevers will be busting a gut against his old team. Lets hope we can score.................

Gotta say the way Shittu has started the season you'd have to say Robbo should get the nod, Lowrys had a shakey start too, It might do Shittu good, competition throughout the team can only help the team as a whole in the long run. He's the skipper and we need as many leaders as possible ot the moment. COYL....First win this saturday

I think we will get our 1st win Saturday, however I think we will have to score 1st to have. A chance which is a sad but tue element to the way our team thinks at the moment. We just need to show some balls and not give in if another team scores. It'd be nice to see Morison win a header too, he's looked like a player only hear for the money so far.

I've said it before on here, I have no confidence in Shittu. He was good last season to an extent but stood out because everyone else was so awful. He's slow, clumsy, has a poor touch, is a hoofer and seems to fall down whenever he touches the ball. Watch him and you'll see. Every kick, header etc he winds up on the floor. He seems to look for the free kick too. He is difficult to get past due to his sheer bulk which is his only plus point. I like the guy and he's done a job for us but to say he's getting better is too positive thinking bordering on hopeful. He wont get quicker at his age only slower. As for Robbo, it'll be good to have him back as he is Millwall to the core but I don't think he'll be great at this level now. With the injury problems he's had it will no doubt affect hia game and confidence when going in for those higher risk tackles and headers. Anyway, 3 games gone, chin up. COYL.

@southlondon1885: Couldn't have said it better re Shittu and was saying the same when everybody else was voting him POS and buying the T-shirts last year. Two year contract was a shocker. Robbo has it all to prove again after the injuries and deserves his chance but I can't see him shirking anything through lack f confidence, not his style.

What I would like to know is why Shittu appears to be bigger/heavier after a full preseason, he does not look at fit as last season and although he was slow the, he has definitely lost some mobility

@glyngo: He isn't bigger or heavier he's the same but when the form dips these things are accentuated. Great attitude but a limited player.

It's time to bring Robbo back. With Robbo's experience and Beevers "legs" alongside him we have 2 centre halves that can do a great job. Shittu's a powerful man but is caught out far too often for pace.
Robbo's our leader for a reason , he's real 'wall.
