Martin itching to play regularly after making league debut

WINGER Lee Martin is "itching" to make his first Millwall start after coming on for his league debut in the 1-0 defeat to Huddersfield Town on Saturday.

Martin, who picked up a knee injury during pre-season training, was given a 30-minute run out against the Terriers having been nursed back to full fitness.

And the 26-year-old is hoping his return to action will inspire a change in the Lions' fortunes after they were beaten for the third Championship match running.

He said: "From a personal point of view, it is brilliant that I came on, but I'd have preferred to get a win. I've missed three or four weeks, so it's literally like I'm starting from scratch. I've got there gradually so now I'm itching to play.

"It is tough to break down teams in the Championship because they are so organised, especially in the last 20 minutes when they sit back and make it hard for you.

"We've conceded from a set play and that's cost us, but we've got to keep going. It's been a difficult start and things haven't fallen for us yet, but the goals will come.

"It's down to us to keep working hard behind the scenes and in training – we've got to stick together. I was in a similar situation last year with Ipswich and the main thing is working hard, getting organised and not feeling too down because there's a long way to go yet.

"The games come quick and fast – it's unforgiving. We'll pick ourselves up and go again."

Lee I am sure I can speak for a lot of our fans and say we feel the same, as soon as outr Manager gets the best players playing as a cohearent team then maybe we might some points on the board, as far as the word team goes we are not that by a long way.

Some of the squad members who were there on Saturday were seen leaveing with 20 mins to go by lads getting there Brighton tickets Trotter Feeney and Maquis to name 3, so nothing like supporting your team mates, and they are paid to work for Millwall and if they cant play for some reason they should be there to show they are all together in this endoevour.

Lets hope you get a good run in the side it should only be an injury that keeps you out as there is not much in your position you should have to worry about, good luck ans stay fit.

"I was in a similar situation last year". Yeah, and things didn't really change until the manager was replaced.
