Millwall suffer injury blow as Forde is booked in for surgery

GOALKEEPER David Forde has been told that an injury to his left knee requires surgery and he could be out of action for up to six weeks.

The Lions stopper is due to have an operation later today after a scan on Monday confirmed that he needs to go under the knife in order to correct the problem.

Millwall have not put an official timescale on Forde's recovery but the severity of the injury is being compared to Liam Trotter's recent knee problem.

Stephen Bywater will fill in for the Republic of Ireland star in his absence, starting against AFC Wimbledon tonight, but Steve Lomas may bring in further reinforcements on loan.

Academy 'keeper Denzil Gerrar is likely to be on the bench against the Dons.

Stephen Bywater time to take your chance son.... That Denzil Gerrard is a good young keeper but i think he's only about 5'11, a midget in modern day goalkeepers.....

Hope Bywater gets rid of the ball a lot quicker than go-slow Forde.

@Longfield Lion: Maybe the reason Fordey is slow releasing the ball is that no one is confident or capable of going short and making themselves available. Too many players hiding on the pitch and not taking responsibility.

There's plenty of GK's that we could loan for a couple of months - we'll be ok!

This is actually a major blow, hopefully Bywater can step up to the plate.

I reckon they've known about this for a while , hence the Bywater signing.

6-weeks? And the rest. Plus I have zero confidence in our fitness staff.

    Agree with longfield Lion
Bywater might get the ball out quicker and command his area unlike Forde

Why all the slating of our physio recently? No foundation for the criticism whatsoever. Players get injured, it's a day to day occurrence in football! Suggesting that we signed Bywater because somebody knew about Forde's injury is ridiculous. Forde probably injured his knee because he had to keep punting the ball forward on Saturday as there was nobody willing to 'take the ball and put their foot on it', SL's own words.
