Millwall boss ponders move for Australian trialist Zadkovich

STEVE Lomas has confirmed that Newcastle Jets midfielder Ruben Zadkovich is training with Millwall as he bids to win a move back to England.

The 27-year-old has been given permission by the Australian club to link up with Lomas' squad as the Lions boss continues his search for further new additions.

Lomas said: "Ruben has come in for a week's training and we'll have a look at him. He has played for Australia so he's obviously a decent player and no mug. We will always be looking to strengthen.

"He had a tough time when he came over here last time with Derby, where he was injured for quite a bit of time. He returned to Australia and got his career back on track."

Zadkovich signed a new two-year contract with the Jets in February, meaning Millwall would have to stump up a transfer fee to sign him. Asked whether a deal would be feasible, Lomas said: "It's hard to say. Let's just have a look at him first and see whether we want him."

Is he going to be good enough at this level I dont know much about the Aussie A league, and how many more midfielders do we really need, all we want is that those that play are good enough for both the Wall and the Championship.

If you think he is worth signing then do it and move someone the out to make way for him, as there were a few canidates from that proformance on Saturday who should be looking over there shoulder, coming SL get the side you want and get them to play the way you want instead of that sudo KJ team that was out there on Saturday.

P.S What has ever happened to Nicky Shorey anyone know

@Barnlion: I agree Barnlion. His promotional video looks good but it looks like all those clips are from the Aussie league which I doubt is not quite the same (as good) as the Championship. Our friends in the land of Oz would be better answering that one. After Saturday, I thought we may need someone who can play on the left as Chaplow - although played well - was out of position there in my opinion. If he can play there and he's as good as his vid shows then surely, it's a no-brainer!

Think he's a better prospect than Lee. Let's get rid of the old KJ school and start again. For some reason I just don't

think Andy Keogh will score much this season. He seems so short of goalscoring confidence - would perhaps be better employed in a 4-3-3.

@NO1LIKESUS: I like Keogh and thought he was unlucky last seaon what with the amount of times he hit the woodwork or had goals disallowed but I think you're right it does seem that his confidence is ebbing away and perhaps it is time to get rid of some of the old Jackett team.

@Sidcup_Lad: I think you will find that he was born in Samoa, anyway its got nothing to do with him being an Aussie its is the league he is plying his trade in going to help him if him comes to the Championship Aussie or not.

As long as Trotter stays, but I thought a full back would be the first priority. Sure SL needs to develope a settled side which will take a little time. I just get the very faint impression he is unsure hence all these players training and leaving.

A 2 footed player with genuine ability & a great eye for goal, ummm, what's there to think about? We should definitely sign him cos he'd show Trotter exactly what a mobile central midfielder should be doing for 90 minutes, that's the full 90 minutes, Delboy.

@Bolland: An eye for goal? had a look at the stats for this guy last night and from memory he gets 1 goal every 15 games..... so 3 a season then - I'd rather keep Trotter - this lads injury problems also put me off along with the reviews I've heard - he's average!

@millwalldownunder: Downunder wll said I suppose you have just woken up and seen this, he is wearing a palasre kit and looks a bit like routledge too boot and your assesment of him and seeing more of him than a few utube clips should at least stop any rash offers of a contract if SL looks at this site from titme to time.

Can nerver have too many Aussies mate when the old mother country is in trouble you always come to help, as in this case its the great millwall (other than Saturdays preformance) bet you were glad you wernt there cobber (sorry).

Same with Millwall. Timmy, Lucas, Kevin, Shane + Scott...

Just please SL don't sign Ruben what a waste. If SL is on here and needs a tip I'm happy to scout the A-League for a nominal fee. Plenty of good young and cheap talent here looking for that'big chance'. Again think Tim Cahill... He cost us bugger all.

@Millwall59: Beging to agree with all of these sentiments, but I always thought Dunne was trying to punch above his weight in this div, thought Jimmy was a good man to break up the play when we did not have the ball, but cant pass that well, I was a fan of Josh he was ok on the ball and normally passed it to one of ours.

But on Saturday and even during preseason not sure about him at this level, really depends what Lomas does this week and what result we get tomorrow night, not worried about tomorrow but I think a win would raise sprits and a good win even better.

One thing about these threads ever since the appointment of SL is that there is the belief that getting in any new player must be a good thing. It feels like we're going around Poundland (OK, rather more expensive than that) saying that might come in handy one day whereas it might well be that we have something better already. As I put on another NAD post yesterday, a midfield of a fully fit Bailey, Chaplow and Trotter (pre-second half of last season vintage) is not bad at all, with a wide player to be picked from Henry, Feeney or Martin. Let's not just keep buying people just because they're available - and to be fair I think Lomas is all too conscious of that.
If we are to be a footballing side then, yes, we need to start playing from the back. What a difference Adam Smith made last year from the creative point of view, so of course if we can find that ability in a full back, coupled with a little more defensive solidity than Adam Smith has at present, then I would think that would be a better area to explore than the midfield - where would he play the players he already has?!
I think at CB Beevers has a very cool head on him and is not just a hoofer, even though his distribution wasn't his best on Saturday, so perhaps he could end up lining up alongside Lowry or Robbo when he's fit. And if Malone has been playing as well as some people have indicated in pre-season then maybe that's the way to go at LB.
I still think ultimately it depends on whether your strikers are scoring goals, as the lines between winning and drawing and losing are very fine, which is why Chris Wood made such a difference to us last season. A goal here or there at the right time in a match changes the whole complexion. But that's why top strikers cost fortunes - let's hope Moro and Macdonald produce the goods. I actually have a feeling they will.

Saturday was worse than watching school kids play not a footballer on the pitch worth talking about in the first half, only just a bit better in the second.
Therefore anyones worth a look at even if they are Aussies, don't hurt to look.
Gotta get the deadwood out first and theres a lot of that here.
It's painful to watch as Millwall have in the past played better football at the bottom f the old forth division years ago even then the commitment and passion was there.
On saturday I could not even get angry about them. Hoof it up the front get it out of my area someone else'll take the blame, dont think they strung three passes together all game.
Ah it's dire and I dont see a way out yet...........

Does anyone else think that Lomas making the pitch small so we can play the preeing game he likes, made a lot of the players try to play a different way than they were used too.

Surely someone knows whats happening about Shorey. He's been at the club 3 weeks now both parties must have sorted something by now. I still say sign him as said by me earlier he will do a job for us . Good footballing brain pushes forwards with the ball runs the line and years of experience. Sorry but Lowry not good enough at LB.

When he's on song Trotter is one of our best midfield players, when he was buzzing early last season a few teams were sniffing after him. Put him alongside Bailey and we will have a nucleus of a good midfield duo. Plus Feeney on the wing who does not give the ball away to add pace and width.
I wonder if SL will play an altered side tomorrow evening?

Please Steve DO NOT SIGN THIS BLOKE. I've watched him consistently in the A-League for the last 7/8 years and he really is a poor footballer with a poor disciplinary record. He was in our national team for last months SE Asian cup, but it was made up completely of A-league players with a handful of players playing in Asia. Usually he wouldn't have the slightest chance of National selection. I could name you at least 5/10 players from the A-League that would have the quality & Heart to play for this club, this bloke isn't even close.

Seriously this guy is f****** s***, & a grub. Stay well clear

Far too much deadwood at the club. No need to start signing more of it. Untested thoroughly at this level so leave him in Oz. Even I look good on utube. A few clips of good moments do not provide the basis on which to sign someone. Saturday was poor. Wright is out of his depth. Dunne is too and as for Shittu, I can see why he's fans favourite but he is absolute pony. Clues in the name. What's happened to Henry too? Seems like he's lost all confidence. Anyway roll on Saturday for our first 3 ppoints and lets hope they keep injury free tonight. COYL

Respect all of the fans views posted so far. Up to now I think SL has shown he knows what he wants and how to take us to the next level. I think SL will only make his decision about RZ based on what he sees in front of him, not performances on youtube. If SL says RZ is OK that's alright by me.
