Newcastle Jets star given permission to hold Millwall talks

NEWCASTLE Jets midfielder Ruben Zadkovich was last week given permission to hold talks with Millwall, the Australian side have revealed.

Zadkovic was given time off by his club following international duty with the Socceroos in the East Asian Cup and travelled to England to meet with Lions boss Steve Lomas.

But the Jets insist they have received no formal bid for the 27-year-old, who has previously played for QPR, Notts County and Derby County during his career.

Chief executive Robbie Middleby said: "Ruben was scheduled to have a week off following his commitments with the Socceroos.

"He asked for the opportunity to take up Millwall's offer of a visit during this time and we have accommodated that request.

"At this stage, we have not received a formal offer for Ruben and he remains a Jets player. Ruben is our captain and a highly valued member of our squad and our preference is for him to stay.

"We're looking forward to having him back in Newcastle for pre-season training this week."

Looks predominantly right footed but can certainly strike a ball. Seems to pop up everywhere too but have to agree with glyngo never heard of him before. According to slp had a couple of injury ravaged seasons before he returned home.

If he comes in I can see one of the bigger names trotter or Henry going

@thepromiselandbeckons: worst game I have seen Lowry play in a long time, passing never was his strong suit but he was awful Saturday.

Looks like he has been around the block a bit in English football but at 27 is playing back home in that well known for its football league Australia, so why do we think he will be any good this time because he is on a free and wont want too much in wages.

Stev you have enough players and some of them should be more than good enough to give us a half decent season, so get stuck into them after that display on Satuarday and also as a coach and on what you have said in previous interviews, pick players to paly in the position that they play and not move them around to accomodate others who seem not to be up to it in this Div.

@glyngo: glyn, thats right and thats what the vast majority of people who post on this site thought with the new blood coming in, but Saturday was a big dissapointment 1 yet again lost a game in the last few minutes, we still cant close a game out.
2 too many players not playing in there reconised positions
3 not enough second balls won either in the middle or at the back
4 not enough balls won in the middle of the park (before Bailey came on)
5 looked a bit like a KJ team as we did not have a plan B
6 kept playing a long ball and no one getting it from Forde and playing through t he middle of the park .
7 Thats not AK game and neither is it that ball boy who came on up front McDonald, he would want it too feet because he wont win much in the air.

I think that was the most disspointing aspect, the lack of any evolution of footballing style and the flaky nature of our defence in the last 15 minutes of the game. Way too similar to last year when we couldn't create any decent passing movements under pressure. Tonmorrows game is important as it will get some of the new and injured lads that little bit fitter, also Keogh deperately needs to find some confidence, he's great when on orm but that miss o Saturday looked like he had gone back to last seasons form. Com on Andy, you're one of the best strikers in this division, stick it in the net son!@Barnlion:

Had his best season last year in the 'A' league which has got him a recent call up again to the Socceroos. Has got a good shot on him from both feet and good in the air.
Couldn't see him ousting Bailey or Chaps but would be an improvement on Wright and Abdou. It would be a step up in standard and intensity for him. Might be worth a gamble.

Jheeze, looks good to me! Trying to sign another midfielder . This shows he must want to get rid of wright and abdou surely?? We will have 6 players for 2 positions otherwise.

We stll have Trotter to come back into midfield and how he combines with Bailey in the middle. At still 24 Trotter can return to his best form when he can split defences apart with one pass. I do not see why SL needs another midfielder surely it is RB the side needs?

I know the footage in the video is only him at his best but there's enough there for me to say get him onboard. He tackles, he has a good range of passes with both feet, he looks to drive forward and have a go at goal from any range as well also with both feet. You probably couldnt match this amount of footage of ALL our current midfield doing similar( new signings excluded).Could turn out to be another quality Aussie in a Lions shirt.

I have to say that an individual does not make a team however good he might be, if the rest are mediocre then it will make little difference. Plus you have to examine the standard of football this guy has been playing in Australia, would he be allowed as much room in the championship? Millwall have a the semblance of good midfield with Trotter and Bailey but if Zadkovich cuts the mustard then all to the good. The RB position needs strengthening quickly I would have thought.

I like his style of play from the obviously bias footage. I see a bit of Mogli (Cahill) in his running with the ball, seems to have a better long range shot that Tim but he will not have the heading ability (not many around did/ have). If he survives a trial with us with the game he seems to have I would think he is work a wanc.

Worth noting the video footage described him as "central midfield, right back" so maybe looking at him as a right back.
