Preview: Millwall vs. Yeovil Town

SUMMER signings Scott McDonald, Nicky Bailey and Lee Martin are all expected to play some part in Millwall's season-opener against Yeovil Town on Saturday.

Martin has had a full week's training after a knee injury and is the most likely of the trio to start. Bailey is still working his way towards full fitness and is set to be named on the bench.

Striker McDonald resumed full training on Thursday after jarring his hip but manager Steve Lomas has hinted he will not risk the Australian from the start.

Lomas has a selection dilemma at left-back, with Shane Lowry now fully recovered from a thigh injury and Scott Malone one of the Lions' standout performers in pre-season.

Similarly, Liam Feeney has impressed during the summer friendlies but has Martin and Martyn Woolford to contend with for a wide-left berth – assuming James Henry starts on the right.

Yeovil are without injured defenders Jamie McAllister and Nathan Ralph but have summer signings Alan Tate and Joe Jones available to fill in.

38% are tipping Millwall to beat Yeovil 2-0 – have you made your predictions in Week 1 of the Championship Prediction League?

@Peckhamlad: Definitely! Woolford will only start any game if Feeney and/or Martin and/or Henry all injured/suspended. Ther...think that covers mist things 🙂

An early goal , 2.0 to us , keep the ball , take it easy. Don't want any injuries through having to chase the game. We need to take immediate control.

Tomorrow afternoon will be warm and humid - proper energy draining climate. I don't expect to see slick, pretty football but a slow slog of a game. 1-0.

Here are my thoughts from across the pond... as much as we'd like a win, as much as we may expect a win vs newcomers Yeovil, a loss isn't really that big of a deal so I hope people don't overreact if we do.

New coach with a new staff that was just assembled weeks ago as well as 6 new signings trying to figure out how they fit into the team, not to mention those players like DNG who will be taking a new approach under Lomas. Yeovil will be a tough battle. They are hungry and the core group will be ready to turn some heads... just like we did when we first joined the Championship a few years back and finished 9th.

Those who are saying we need to get off to a positive start, remember last season? We had one of the hottest periods of play in recent memory and still narrowly escaped relegation. It's not how you start but how you finish. Remember two years ago when we finished ahead of Palace? Who saw that coming off our weak start?

I do think though if we don't get off to a good start, Lomas will be hearing it from the fans, but I encourage everyone to give the man a shot. He seemed motivated to turn this team into winners and we should give him the time & support to achieve that.

@BetaMale: I agree with what your saying about giving Lomas a chance if we don't have the best start but saying it matters what happens at the end of the season matters more than the start isn't fully correct. If we have a good start that'll put a good few points in the bag so we won't be so deseperate at the end. Towards April the points you got from August and September can be vital especially with how tight the seasons are getting! yes we had the hottest form last season but whether we like it or not it was only cos we had chris wood. Now that was have permnant proven quality players on our side I think the fans can reclaim faith in pushing our form further than a stint with a loany

@BetaMale: Agree with others on comment about how you finish, and not so worried about how you start. Both are important! However, to use an analogy, if you view the season in terms of it's like a whole night at the casino, then what's the most important thing is you left at the end with more than you started ... Not less. It's all well a good celebrating a big win half way through the session, but if you over stretch and t*** it all away before you go, then you've failed. Anyway, nuff of that ... Lions to win 2 - 0 today!

I just want to say Good Luck to Steve Lomas & all the Team for tomorrow & the rest of the season.
With all the new signings & the backing of JB & the board this could be the start of something special at the club.
So let's all get behind the manager & team & show the rest of the teams in this league that the Rampant Lion is back & Roaring.

I see Daniel Defoe is being linked with QPR and with Wright Phillips in their side they will be a major threat in the Chanpionship. They have the luxury of a lot of money. However they seem to think winning the league will be a breeze and they should not be in the Championship' I truly hope they get the stuffing knocked out of them just to get rid of their arrogance.
Good luck Millwall set the pace!

@Peckhamlad: I agree with you but unfortunately with Charlie Austin already and the chance of Jermaine Defoe, I think they are holding the upper hand.

Just a few points (3 hopefully) about today:-

    1) Todays attendance will be greater than if KJ was in charge and thats from someone who rates him as a manager (Wolves will be back in Prem within 4 seasons if he is the manager but he did go off the boil as all managers do except old brandy nose at Man U).

    2) JB has backed SL, if there was anytime he wanted to cash in his chips then surely it was a few weeks after KJ went.

    3) Forget all this west han c@@t business, we had Hill Billy Bonds as manager, how big a hamsters c@@t do you want to be in charge?

    4) SL brings Neil Harris back to the club, so lets pretend we are bottom at Christmas, who are the supporters going shout for as the new manager, brave decision if you ask me.

S*** thats 4 points, can I have an extra one if we win by margin of 3 goals or more (which I won't bet against).

Your first priority is not to lose. How the f**k did we lose to Yeovil. I know its first game of the season but come on. Nothing less than a thumping against the Wombles will do. Dont see five figure attendances with that scoreline.
