McDonald travels to London as Millwall close in on striker

SCOTT McDonald travelled to London on Sunday to discuss a two-year deal with Millwall after Middlesbrough agreed to terminate the final year of his contract.

Boro boss Tony Mowbray confirmed over the weekend that McDonald was set to leave the Riverside Stadium and a move to the Lions now appears to be little more than a formality.

The 29-year-old was earning a reported £30,000-a-week on Teesside but is ready to take a huge pay cut to join Steve Lomas' side.

Signing McDonald, who hit 13 goals in the Championship last year, would represent a major coup for Lomas, who has been on the lookout for a proven goalscorer to partner Steve Morison in his new-look strikeforce.

The Australian international has scored 132 goals in 292 career league appearances to date.

Been reading comments on here for weeks now and have decided to get in on the act.
This would turn out to be a quality signing if SL pulls it off! Now it's just a matter of getting all the signings to gel. They must be given a chance to do so and that goes for the manager too!!! COYL

Have to say I was really not sure about the appointment of Lomas, nothing to do with his playing days, just did not think he had what it takes to be a Millwall manager, however he does seem to have made some good signings, going to be an interesting season hopefully

None of us will know until December at the earliest.
So far so good though, great signing, great statement, great judgement with the the Harris appointment. Next thing we're know is we'll be top of the league and SL will be off to somewhere like Norwich, Stoke or Villa and then things will get back to normal

@millwalldownunder: Lucas was good but if my memory serves me right then he started left mid for us was a bit inconsistent with bags of ability and potential but only really realised it after he left us and converted to right back. Prefered dave Mitchell tbh now if McDonald signs and does better than Mitch I'll be happy.

If he's ripped up his contract at Boro and is heading to London, then he must have already agreed terms with Millwall. Subject to a medical he should be on board today or tomorrow.
    I hope.

Thanks you have made my day and its only 8.20 .... Can't believe the persuasive powers of old silver tongued Lomas. Since when have we signed this these types of players in pre season. I don't worry about all this bedding in and fitness stuff. KJ borrowed a load of players well into the season with no idea if they would work. SL getting it done early....well done JB "you der man!"

Ashes to Ashes, Dust to Dust, If Morro dont get you, McDonald must!

Just the right strategy here Mr Chairman and Mr Lomas, proven articles with some shelf life in them, next up a couple of Premier starlets with blistering pace for a seasons loan and a good young goalie to boot.

We now have the ammo for a shot this season or next,

Alli want is other teams to say to their manager 'Who we got next week Boss?', 'Millwall away', so that they start thinking about having a dodgy hamstring come Monday
    Bring them on!

To be honest this needed to be done after last seasons debacle.... New manager(with some balls & ambition) and a complete overhaul of the squad...We all saw it first hand that we were a championship team with a league one squad so it doesn't take a rocket scientist to work out that we needed new additions. BUT, none of us would of dreamed of the type of players that we would actually be getting in...these are proper championship players with proven records that will IMO make us contenders for the play offs next season (shoot me down if you will Old Les..). Now to add Shorey, Richardson & Mehdi Abeid and we are my friends..... f**king laughing.......... COYL

Like I've already said (often) so far Lomas hasn't put a foot wrong in word and deed. All good signings and would be nice to get the two full backs (don't need the dago midfielder). All this has been helped by financial changes which have put this club into a better bargaining position. Clubs like Boro are letting good players go because they've overspent and are in a bit of a money meltdown. Serves the c**** f****** right and I hope the Premier League goes the same way with their obscene wages to wanky foreigners for the Sky generation to w*** over as the real English game is slowly strangled and the national team buried. But don't get carried away Windy (living up to your name there) because this is a very tough league (thank f***) and all you lot already counting the 3 points against Yeovil need to grow up and get a grip rather than going all Palace over a few good signings. We could have the 10 best players in the word and it wouldn't for certain make the best team. Let's see what happens on the pitch when it's all for real before going all girlie ga ga and spouting off about play offs and winning the league. Not an easy game in the Championship (how I f****** hate that name) though that is something we should all be grateful for. (Though there are many of the new breed on here who would love to be all Manchester United and win every game at a canter and hardly raise as much as an eyebrow when the winning goal went in) Come to think of it I bet lots of them are down their local pub in Surrey on Sunday afternoon with their Chelsea shirt on

@Old_Les: That is the only downside to all these quality signings les , we may expect too much from the team and get on their backs when it's 0-0 at half time like the new breed of muppet at prem ground's , give me 4k wall at the old place over any crowd in the world , this is a tough lge ,we have a squad that will hold its own ,i'm happy with that and anything else a bonus.

I agree Les, about the modern day football and the strangle hold that the premier league over the rest of english football, its an absolute travesty and i'm glad that rules in the FFP will hopefully halt it suffocating the lower leagues any further. But Les you cannot deny that the amount of true quality coming in at once is something we haven't seen down the den since the late eighties? 87/88 for example? Yes we have seen lots of players come in, in one transfer window but none of true quality compared to what we have seen in this one? maybe the odd gem along the way but not a whole raft of them!!!. Yes i agree, it wouldn't be the Millwall way if it was straight forward with no bumps along the way and i don't want that to ever change as for me that is what make the club a real club for real fans, but in reality we have to evolve and make the step up if this club truly wants to be successful. Les i started going down the old den in the mid eighties (probably long after yourself) and seen a lot of highs but many more lows but whats going on at the minute stinks of a transition period in the clubs history that we haven't seen Docherty took us to the old 1st division. So sorry if the vast majority of us on here don't agree with your conservative views, however don't burst our bubble and have little respect for how these fellow Millwall fans views on whats going on at the minute. Be nice Les......

@Windy: Too many Harriets on here for me to be nice. Grassing up your own never been something that went down well with me and I'm sure it'll all get far more PC and censored now the wanky Southwark News and its' excuses for journalists have got their claws in. My views are not at all conservative about anything but certainly the opposite of the new age metrosexual hang wringing lentil eating Ultra types that infest this site. Thankfully none of them appear to sit in West Upper but that's only because they probably turn up just for the Wembley games. You seem fairly allright and you are correct about the quality coming in that probably hasn't been matched since the days of the much maligned Bruce Rioch who was a wonderful spotter of talent. Don't alter the fact far too many are creaming their pants and expecting top of the table performances when in actual fact Steve Lomas has a very hard task in front of him in a league where, regardless of what the nobs think, this isn't the only club to have brought in quality players. I'd be happy if we could only go back to the days when Den support was good and the place like a fortress but I daresay the club will carry on with their policy of banning everyone who as much as stands up and shouts boo.

@Old_Les: If Lomas gets the team playing like Rioch's team we should all be more than happy and we'll do alright. Bar for 20 mad minutes at Brighton (Thommo's back!), our recent history could have been a whole lot different. Top half finish 2013/14 with the new signings, anything else a bonus.

@Old_Les: I am a season ticket holder in the West Upper Les! I don't think any of us can be unimpressed by the way this pre-season has shaped up and the quality of signings we are making. I was a big fan of KJ but it's good to see the old place buzzing again and the supporters actually looking forward with hope. You're 100% right about good players not necessarily making a good team and about the fact that this is still the hardest and most competitive league in the country - we might still fall flat on our a**es - but it ain't half good looking forward in hope! Harford has rejected the job at Newcastle as he wants to continue his work with us, SL it seems has really got everyone on board with the future plans for the club it seems. It would have been so easy for MH to accept the 10 year contract worth millions, then sacked before next season!

If this happens I can't believe that SL that has brought in 6 players with Championship or Premier League experience without paying a penny in transfer fees. Okay, the Wages and Agents Fees must have gone through the roof but comparing these signings to some of the crap KJ brought to the club during the last few seasons with 2 and 3 year contracts one wonders what SL has got that KJ didn't have. Perhaps he is giving away thousands of Green Shield Stamps with each signing!!!
