SOUTHAMPTON have cancelled Richard Chaplow's contract by mutual consent – clearing the way for the midfielder to sign for Millwall on a free transfer.
Chaplow tweeted earlier on Thursday that he was still "very much" a Saints player after talks over a severance package hit a snag, but the 28-year-old is now officially a free agent.
The Lions are expected to sign Chaplow on a two-year contract within the next 24 hours.
Southampton confirmed in a statement: "With first-team opportunities looking slim ahead of the 2013-14 season, Chaplow has been permitted to end his three-year association with Southampton."
Chaplow, who scored nine goals in 67 appearances for the south-coast club, tweeted: "End of a chapter, start of a new one! Loved every min and I'm privileged to have been part of it all, what a journey it was."
"Fans have been amazing can't even sum up in a tweet how much I'll miss the whole club."
