Millwall begin new era under Steve Lomas at home to Yeovil

MILLWALL will kick-off the 2013-14 Championship campaign at home to Yeovil Town in new manager Steve Lomas' first competitive game in charge.

The Lions had requested a match at The Den on August 3 to allow them to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the ground first opening – and will face the newly-promoted Glovers.

Lomas said: "Yeovil are riding the crest of a wave at the moment so that causes its own dangers. We'll have to be prepared, fit and ready for them. But we're at home so we will be looking to get on the front foot and make a good start in front of our fans."

Lomas' first five league fixtures will be against Yeovil (H), Ipswich Town (A), Huddersfield Town (H), Sheffield Wednesday (A) and Brighton (A).

Millwall will travel to Watford on Boxing Day, host Leicester City on New Year's Day and face Bournemouth at The Den on the final day of the season.

London derbies against Charlton take place on September 21 (A) and March 15 (H), whilst QPR travel to SE16 on October 19 before the return match at Loftus Road on April 26.

Quite excited now, Lomas making all the right noises, we all need to "support" our team and manager, even if the results don't go our way early on, the support has to be solid, don't be small minded, we are Millwall, super Millwall, we are Millwall from the den!

@Old_Les: Nice bit of negativity to start the season off, yeovil is a team we should be beating regardless...

@banksy: i dont think thats negative i think you'll have to make a more justified decition after the pre-season where you can see how the team look under the new manager.

Those first 4 fixtures and AFCW in the cup put a lot of pressure on Lomas to make a fast start. All games we can win.

@Windy:Windy just read your post of the Lomas & coaching staff blog and I replied to you, so the Joe Gallen staying at Millwall as it does seem as to the artical on the offical website, is that another one to tick off or are you the same as most of uswishing he brought his own backroom staff in.
Still nothing regarding new signings which is what we are all looking for, so at the moment what is different from last year other than KJ leaving to get paid more than he was on here??

Don't underestimate Yeovil they have just been promoted and will be very eager to get off to a good start. I hope SL will bring in some new faces soon. Especially somebody who can score goals.

Only millwall will f*** the calendar up they've got march then may and April lol quality
On a more serious note march and April look to be really tough months and I hope to god we ain't in the later stages of the facup again cause those fixtures look hard enough on their own. Nice to have home fixtures to start and finish the season with a good away day on Boxing Day at Watford.
Come on wall lets av it and get behind the boys so we can have a bigger transfer pot come January.

must get early points from yeovil, sheff wed and huddersfield as these could be the weaker sides at end of season,i think mick mccarthy has got ipswich sorted and will do well so those three games are going to be very important, so sl has got to get into our players from the word go but most important they have to respond and fight for every thing from the word go. show they want it for millwall just as we do.

Lomas is a young hungry manager. He is going to shake the club up. We are going up. The players have to shape up. Fergie pt 2.

You can agree a deal in principal of course, but the windows doesn't officially open until July 1st so until then you will not see much movement.

Have the editors of this board thought about having a poll on whether we like the design of the new team shirts?

    Just a thought.

I'm sure I am not the first to say that Steve Lomas is a young and hungry manager with the will for his team to succeed. He deserves support.
William Hill give us odds in the Mirror today of 80-1 to be Championship winner, but 9-4 for relegation.
Remember that Managers are the fall-guys for club owners.
Mind you, Lomas should sort his hair out. He looks a bit like a Great Crested Grebe, with his 'Northern Ireland Stick-Up Protestant Hair' (see Father Ted, and Angela's Ashes).
