Millwall board aiming to appoint a new manager next week

MILLWALL are aiming to appoint their new manager by the middle of next week – bringing to an end almost a month of uncertainty at The Den.

Chairman John Berylson is due to leave the UK next Monday and the Lions board want to have made a final decision by the time he returns home to Boston.

Interviews for the vacancy were conducted by a three-man panel consisting of Berylson and directors Trevor Keyse and Constantine Gonticas at the back end of last week. They met candidates in various London hotels, whilst Berylson also held some interviews in Paris.

But Crawley Town boss Richie Barker, who had been shortlisted by the board, is no longer in the frame. Millwall were weighing up whether to approach the League One club for permission to interview Barker when it emerged the 47-year-old had already agreed a new contract with the Reds.

Barker, who on Tuesday confirmed he had signed a two-year extension at the Broadfield Stadium, did not hold talks with the Lions – although they only ever considered him to be a dark horse for the job.

Hinting at potential interest in his manager, Crawley's chief executive Richard Low said: "It is important for the football club's development that key staff are with us for the long-term and we’re delighted Richie has committed to Crawley Town for the next two years.

"He is a very highly-regarded young manager and coach and has a very strong relationship with the rest of his staff and the players."

Not interested in who isn't in the frame. Just interested in who is.

Tell you what Aldo there's been some crap names mentioned on your site to take over at Millwall. Ambler keeps giving interviews talking about the club wanting to get in the premiershit league, well if they really do have that ambition what the hell is all this talk about managers like the bloke from Yeovil the other week and the bloke you mention above Barker (ffs), Surely the club have to be aiming higher than some of the people mentioned.

Disappointed with these names. Not established, proven or able to attract the right players for a top half finish.

    Just read this on MO.

Interesting for sure although not sure why doom and gloom merchants on here think the games up as such.
