QPR boss Redknapp backs Bircham to take over at Millwall

HARRY Redknapp has backed QPR youth coach Marc Bircham to become the next manager of Millwall.

Bookmakers have slashed the odds on Bircham taking over from Kenny Jackett, who resigned on Tuesday, although NewsAtDen understands the former Lions midfielder is not a serious candidate for the job.

Redknapp, however, says he would not stand in Bircham's way if the opportunity to move to The Den arose. He said: "I think Marc would be a good fit for Millwall if they fancy him.

"It would be good for him if Millwall wanted a young manager. Marc is a good lad that understands football and he loves coaching. People will talk about a lack of experience but how do you get it if no one gives you a chance?

"Obviously he hasn't managed anywhere else but he has history having played there. You'll never know if your capable until you are given an opportunity and somewhere like Millwall would be brilliant for Marc."

Bircham, 34, made 104 appearances for the Lions as a player between 1996 and 2002.

If Bircham is deemed good enough to manage us, then so am I.

This would be a disaster if Bircham got the job, First Harry would get him off his pay roll for one and then he could get him to take a load of his Pony loanee's to also help lower QPR's wage bill further at Millwall's expense, and lastly why would he want to do us any favours, what was that club he played for through Rotherhithe tunnel cant seem to recall there name.

Loved Birch as a player, but no way is he ready to be a No.1. Could be a good assistant to an experienced manager though and he knows the club well and what we want to see from our teams.

I wouldnt mind birch back at the club. Young no's the club. Dont want to see owen coyle at the den. Fans want the name not the coach and i say f@k that same as warnock either of them should of done something at last clubs such as leeds and bolton. DIDNT HAPPEN. I would like to see someone that has experianced the club for the right reasons. If that mean birch then let it be.

What a lack of ambition it would be to get Bircham in as manager. Nowhere near experienced enough at this level. Redknapp is a joke of a manager who only looks good when he has piles of cash and he even f***** up QPR spending a fortune on the way to relegation. Every club he manages ends up in a mess.

Sorry yes, that was Birch who's been hired as the new turnstile operator. Apparently, Redknapp told him he's got him a job that will open a few doors for him.
Keane has been hired as the new 'meet and greet usher' who will be happy to show you to your seat next season.

    NO, NO NO< NO

This is not the time to be taking a risk on someone. Next season is a critical and crucial moment in the club's history. The last two seasons have shown us that we are, rightfully, to be expected to emerge as one of the most likely sides to be relegated and although experience is no gurantee of survival it is more likely to succeed.

If the club want Bircham let him get involved with the U21 Development squad.

@bordersarebest0170: I totally agree Borders. Despite some of my negative posts about KJ, I definitely wasn't hardcore Jackett out brigade. Iam beginning to think I was a bit harsh and I have to say I'd have him back in a flash. Our budget won't allow us to get anyone decent and despite the calls for an experienced manager I'm afraid it will be all about money and what we can afford. Starting to regret kj leaving more anymore each day 🙁

I have a horrible feeling that their new bosses could well be managers of other clubs because they won't sign for us. Incidently the Sky Sports site is saying that Paul Dickov might be in the frame as our new Manager. Would have thought we can do better than him.

@lukesmithmfc: I thought it was common knowledge that he was a Millwall supporter? Anyway, apart from that, it just goes to show that if we had had a couple of decent strikers it just may have been us holding up that cup but I guess we'll never know.

Nice to see a little club get one over a money bags club, shows its not all about money, pride for the shirt and your team and supporters go a long way. Well done Wigan hope you stay up don't really fancy having to play you in the championship.

@Sealion: Well said lads. Delighted for them and hope they stay up as well and see Sunderland drop just to see Di Canio have a melt down.

That west ham p**** redcrap can fu #k off, but we need someone in within the fortnight just to keep the players we want interested in staying, I'm sure jb will delay things just so he don't have to SPEND money on two forwards, not loan all season and not a freebie that can't get into his own lower league team. And if rumours are correct shittu is being offered a player / manager role - bad idea

I hope this is a rumour! The last thing we need now is complacency. Take our time to get the right man in? Too much choice will complicate matters. I hope a true football man appoints the new manager & not a bloody board member who only has an eye for thriftyness!

Boothroyd? i know he's got Northampton to playoff final but f#+k no
Looking at the odds on oddschecker.com it's only bet victor offering anything and they're quoting 66/1. He notoriously has a flying start but fails miserably in the second half of the season - sound familiar.
