Jackett bemoans Millwall's lack of creativity in Forest defeat

KENNY Jackett could not fault the commitment of his players after Millwall lost 1-0 to Nottingham Forest but admitted they were not creative enough in the final third.

Greg Halford's eighth-minute header proved to be the difference between the sides at The Den and left the Lions just one point above the relegation zone with two games to go.

Jackett said: "It was a poor goal to give away from a set piece but we had plenty of time to get back into it. I can't fault the effort and commitment of the players. It was definitely there.

"Somewhere a long the line we needed a break and something to fall for us. We had a lot of the ball and a lot of pressure against a very talented side, who have a lot of quality particularly in midfield.

"I was looking for one player to maybe beat his man, get the other side of people or be able to turn and take somebody out of the game, whether that be in a wide area or up front.

"Creatively we could not find the player to deliver a crucial cross or score a goal. I felt it was a good effort by the players but we didn't get a break that could have added to our points total.

"Different substitutions and permutations of players were going through my mind. I though George Saville showed very well playing in an advanced midfield position. He was a positive for us.

"We have to keep going, make sure we get the right combination of players and perhaps get one or two fresh ones in. We need players coming back from injury to find their rhythm.

"Ultimately it is a disappointment because you need to score goals at home. Creatively we were not quite there. We've been close in games but not close enough.

"That's been the story of the second half of our season. To be battling it out with 55 points and two games to go is slightly unusual but we do need to scrap it out.

"Performances at home haven't been good. We have work to do to keep out Championship status."

I make no secret of the fact that whatever our fate KJ is the man to take us forward BUT if you were looking for someone to beat their man why on earth take Batt off and put Marquis on!! I feel for him but Marquis is never gonna beat anyone on the floor or in the air. At least Batt puts himself about and is quick. IMO you got that one badly wrong Kenny.

@lion.ie: He was awful Lion; I thought before he went off, Feeney was our best player Tuesday, surprised he didn't start. At least Batt was having a go, I would have brought Easter on before Keogh and definitely before Marquis (just not good enough and never will be in my book). Henry was awful, George Saville looked quite good. I know he's had a poor season but we need Trotter back for Tuesday if we're gonna get a goal.

@Adsy77777: Yeah, I didn't expect anything else, shocking signing. I think KJ might've been thinking Tyson against his old club which don't bode well for Derby away, especially if Hulse is still around, although he's scored 3 in 3 against Derby!

how many times has he played 1 striker up front and either 2 defensive midfielders or a stupid 3 midfield formation where no one has the sense to move closer to the lone striker Batt was winning balls but when he did knock it down players were still on the wing watching him or still running out the 18 yard box the only chance we have is to play 4 4 2 at least the players know what they are meant to be doing

terrible decision to take batt off for marquis. jackett has struggled this season with tack ticks but i still still think he is the right man, we operate with so little money we are not going to attract quality players because we cant afford them, the wood and kane saga proves this, i think keeping us in this league proves just how good he is.
lets hope we can turn the nigels over and end the season on a high though

Bottom line is this. We don't beat Palace on Tuesday we're going down cos we aren't going to get anything at Derby.

We are now paying the price for having an awful January window. Getting rid of Henderson may have been justified but bringing in 3 "strikers" who have no sort of recent goal scoring record was pretty stupid.
And I am getting pretty fed up with Millwall fans just bleating about "punching above our weight" that's what Millwall is all about and given a half decent scouting system we should have been all right.
We are in the Championship and smaller teams like Bournemouth, Doncaster, Brentford and even Yeovil will relish the challenge. Instead of moaning perhaps we should have concentrated on getting a capable squad together

I'm sorry to say but it's been the same old same old all season & think it's time Kenny went !!!!!.. we are lucky we stayed up last season & we would have been down already if wood's hadn't been banging them in for fun ... yes/d was a joke ..taking off batt man was total crap Kenny !! ... one up front doesn't work ..we can see it so why can't kj !! ... Kenny wonts us to get behind the team, but when all we can do is have a lame shoot on target wot is there to sing about ... new faces in & a new manager I reckon enuf said !!

Peterborough to loose at Brighton or Barnesly to loose, what a dilemma relying on other teams, can't get me head around the prospect of going down, so I have to believe we're gona beat Palarse or Darby coz that's what we do. COYL 1 win we need to give it our all as fans make it a Darby to remember give it last home game of the season it's a must win. COYL

I wish everyone would calm down we won't go down KJ is big enough to admit when he's made mistakes. TRUST HIM.

Yes we've been unlucky Afobe, chaplow and Taylor getting injured hasn't helped I won't even mention the lads who turned us down.

Look back to 2004 our cup run destroyed our form lets see the season out and more importantly get behind the team on Tuesday night cos if we can't get up for palarse then we deserve to go down
