Report: Millwall 0-1 Nottingham Forest

GREG Halford's early goal consigned Millwall to their 11th home defeat of the season.

Victory kept Nottingham Forest's play-off hopes alive but the Lions still have work to do to prevent a disastrous relegation to League One.

But safety could be secured if Sheffield Wednesday beat Peterborough in Saturday's late kick-off at London Road.

Manager Kenny Jackett made five changes from the midweek defeat to Blackburn Rovers, bringing in Shaun Batt, Nathan Tyson, George Saville, Adam Smith and Sean St Ledger.

Forest took the lead with just eight minutes on the clock when Halford out-jumped St Ledger to head home Andy Reid's corner in front of the travelling fans.

Radoslaw Majewski saw his drive from the edge of the area held by David Forde before Saville crashed a half-volley well over the bar at the other end.

Millwall had appeals for a penalty turned down in the 18th minute when Danny Collins slid in on Batt but the defender looked to have got the ball and play was waved on.

After the Lions had scrambled clear another dangerous Reid corner, James Henry nearly capitalised on goalkeeper Karl Darlow's fumble, but scooped his shot over.

The winger had another effort on goal after Saville's inch-perfect through ball but he drilled into the side netting. Shortly after, Batt flicked a header wide from Alan Dunne's cross.

Batt was brought down on the edge of area seven minutes after half time but Henry curled the resulting free-kick straight at Darlow, who made a comfortable save.

Jackett brought on John Marquis and Andy Keogh from the bench to inject fresh energy into his side but it was Forest who continued to have the better of the chances.

In the 76th minute, Forde made a superb reaction save to deny substitute Marcus Tudgay after he latched onto Lewis McGugan's pinpoint cross.

Millwall looked their most dangerous at set-pieces and Keogh was inches away from turning in Karleigh Osborne's header after Henry's corner from the right.

Henri Lansbury blazed over after a rapid counter-attack before McGugan fired at Forde with striker Simon Cox better-placed to score in the middle.

The Lions threw Osborne up front in a desperate attempt to find the equaliser but it was St Ledger who had their last chance, poking straight at Darlow, who held on.

I always thought we would survive because of the help of other results rather than on our own merit,it could be a blessing in disguise only just avoiding relegation because now there's no doubting our squad needs serious revamping,no more papering over the cracks! come on Sheff weds do us a favour...

We've played nine home league games since we beat Bristol City on New Years Day - with six of the games against teams fighting relegation. We've lost seven, drawn one got the solitary win against Watford (when we were still crap).

I thought we'd get a point today, but this team no longer looks capable of even getting a draw.

I know it's irrelevant now but if we had beat SW BBURN and HDFLD we'd be vying for the play offs... Crazy league this year. I do think that our squad merits the position we are in. The tactics represent the squad we have. Is that all down to KJ or is he doing the best he can with what he's been given?

If we go down, it's not because of injuries, our squad or other results - its on Jackett and the decisions he has made. I've always backed him and defended him on here, but he truly is losing the plot and he hasn't appeared to have learned anything from the last 10 or so games.

We can't blame the strikers, because we aren't even creating chances. For all those who berated Trotter - now you see what our midfield is like without him! Abdou, St Ledger and Saville put in a hard shift today, but none of them have Trotter's ability to hold up the ball and create chances. Its no coincidence our drop in form has coincided with Trotter being out of the team.

Jackett keeps picking players who aren't good enough or aren't motivated enough to get us out of this mess. St Ledger, Tyson, Saville and Smith aren't fussed if we go down because they will go back to their parent clubs. Batt hasn't played enough football at this level to start and lead the line on his own. Karleigh Osbourne (like Batt) is not mentally or technically good enough to play at this level yet. Meanwhile, Josh Wright (one of our most technically gifted players) loses his place to an unproven on loan teenager and Andy Keogh (who has Premiership and International experience and has scored bags of goals for us in the past) gets 10 minutes out of position! WHY?!

I wish our players were half as f****** stressed as I am about this s***. Its too f****** close.

I will some up the problems we have in just one incentdent that happened right in front of me West Lower. We have a throw in, Adam Smith throws the ball to Henry and it was perfectly ok, he f**** ups the control and b******* Smith for the throw. Smith says something back and has to get back in position. What he should have done was clapped , that's ok we are all in this together. Henry has gone back to his old ways since his injures, he has already packed his bags along with Keogh, Trotter. No passion in this team the old Millwall spirit kept us up last year, but we have been Sussed and I am afraid class will always come through.

Peterbourgh won so we are really up against it now, today proved that KJ has gone as far as he can completely run out of ideas. The substitutions today were appalling Batt was the only one able to bring the ball down even tho he is not playing at his best so to bring on Marquis who can not jump or win a ball was very disappointing , Feeney should have played instead of Tyson who did not do a thing all afternoon. Kenney be a man and admit it you gone as far as you can with the ability that you have so give it up step down and let a fresh face have a go.

THINK ITS GOING TO TAKE A MAJOR REBUILD FROM MANAGER TO COACHING STAFF AND PLAYERS ,
KJ AND HIS SIDE KICKS HAVE LOST THE DRESSING ROOM
NEEDS A YOUNG FRESH FACE WITH NEW TACTICS ,IF WE GO DOWN I DONT SEE KJ HAVING THE FIGHT TO TAKE US BACK UP , HIS RECENTS DEALINGS IN SIGNINGS HAVE BEEN S*** ,
I FORONE WOULD TRY AND GET ALEX RAE FROM BLACKPOOL , HIS DONE HIS STINT AS A NUMBER TWO ,
HE NEVER LET US DOWN IN A MILLWALL SHIRT HE KNOWS ALL ABOUT THE LOWER LEAGUE
HOPE WE STAY UP BUT IF WE LOSE TO PALACE TUES , THERE PLAYOFF PLACE WILL BE SAFE WHICH MEANS THEY WILL ROLL OVER AND HAVE THERE BELLYS TICKED BY PETERBROUGH

Used to like the comments section on this site, now I hate it.
Negative comment after negative comment, b******* written about tactics when 99% of people think that just means formation, witch hunt for one of our best ever managers who is going through a tough time, more rubbish written about how we are paying players x amount and how we have cash to burn, more crap re how we should blow the budget to get in the Premiership, more about how lucky we are to be above other teams, it's a 46 game season and luck doesn't come into it, and now KJ has 'lost the dressing room', a tabloid soundbite.
Yeah, we're struggling against relegation, it's a freak season and that's where we are as a club, yeah we have some below average players, so do the rest of the teams in the Championship, yeah we've signed some stinkers, who hasn't? Yeah we don't have a 20+ goals a season striker, we can't afford one and they are hard to come by, ask Malky Mackay.
We need some realism back and with a few exceptions there are very few realists on this site now, just moaners.
If you pay your money and watch the team struggle at home for half a season, you're entitled to moan but at least think about what you're writing and back up the wild claims with some sound reasoning.
Come on You Lions, one more result from two games and we've another season of roller coaster Championship football to look forward to, if not we go down and come back stronger.

Standards and his tactical decisions on formation and subs has been inconsistent. He deserves the chance to rebuild the squad but please play either Abdou or Smith, not both together. We have a good chance of staying up before the last game, derbies defy form and currently Millwallfc and Palarse both suck big time. Important summer for KJ though, got to buy players that can give us real formation options. Don't forget he spotted and developed most of our best players of the last 6 years!

I don't think its the results, or the home form, or even, dare I say it, the relegation battle, that bother people on here. From what I can tell, and its my opinion too, its the lame-arsed, gutless, spineless way we've gone about our football recently. We have shown no passion, no heart and no soul. The siege mentality is our trademark and there's been none of it. The Den crowd has been quieter this season cos of it too. Kills me to say it. We lost at home 6 something to Brum a season or so back but we had fight and we sang the place down...that's what I have missed the most, the pride to pull on that shirt. Hurts me the most.

well they say lightening never strikes twice but lets have a think here and cast back to 1996. We beat birmingham at home and we all presumed we were safe just like when we beat watford the other week. We then went to huddersfield and lost 3-0 just like the other week, then came two home games the first a 1-0 defeat to oldham via a dodgy pen just like blackburn, then a 3-2 home defeat to stoke who were chasing a play off place just like forest. If we do manage to get a draw against Palarse we would be 2 points above Barnsley just like we were 2 points above pompey in 96. Pompey went to huddersfield snatched a 1-0 and we drew at Ipswich and who have Barnsley got away next week yep Huddersfield. Groundhog day me hopes not!!!! COYL lets end this relegation talk on tuesday by doing the nigels and ruining their play off hopes.
