Millwall goalkeeper fumes at "disgraceful" penalty decision

GOALKEEPER David Forde slammed referee Gavin Ward after he awarded the penalty that lead to Millwall's defeat to Blackburn Rovers at The Den in midweek.

Ward pointed to the spot after Grant Hanley went sprawling inside the area – but video replays later showed the defender had been nowhere near a Lions player when he went to ground.

£8million-striker Jordan Rhodes converted from 12-yards to seal a priceless 2-1 win for the visitors – and drag Millwall further into the relegation mire at the foot of the Championship table.

Forde said: "I was dumbstruck that the referee gave the penalty. Hanley's made a fantastic run but his legs have gone from under him, I think he surprised himself that he got that far and fell over.

"The referee and especially the lineman have made a disgraceful decision. I have watched it four or five times and how the linesman can not intervene is an absolute disgrace.

"I was looking at the lineman to make the call. It is really hard to take because it is one of the worst decisions I've ever seen. Decisions like that end up costing people their livelihoods.

"The referee would not talk to anyone after the game and just bombarded himself in his changing room. He was afraid to come out because he knew he'd made the wrong decision.

"We've put in a good, honest performance against Blackburn and everyone put in a great shift. To be fair, it's happened too many times down the years with this club.

"I hope they send a strong referee for the Nottingham Forest game on Saturday because too many of them come to The Den thinking they have a point to prove and that they won't be intimidated.

"When that happens, they end up going the other way and not giving us decisions."

The Lions entertain Forest knowing that a win would see them safe, but the visitors' need for points in just as pressing as they chase a play-off spot. You can bet on the game with www.freebets.org.uk.

It has always been the same since I've been going 20 odd years and it always will be. No 1 really don't like us!! It's normally any 50-50s or actually 60-40s go the other way but that was just so blatant. Fat diving c***!! If it was premiership itd be all over the news but as its Millwall getting screwed its happy days.

That's football Fordey. It happens. Move on. That game has gone.
Concentrate your energies on the next game, get the three points and put this to bed ffs.
Do your talking on the pitch. I don't want to hear anything else from these players until the job is done. End of!

Agree with you Al, but was an awful decision and an awful dive! Mind you, if someone had put a foot in before we wouldn't even be debating it. We do look suss when someone runs at us.

Could end up costing KJ his job as well. Might have gone on to win that game and then with bit of confidence gone on to win last 3. As it is we will lose every game but stay up cos the teams below us are too s*** to win 2 on bounce and KJ will walk.

I'm gonna go somewhere that will completely p*** a few of you rite off but not deliberately.
Henley ran about 75 yrds untouched and just as he cut over towards the d from the left his legs started to give way, by the time he got into the box he was almost touching the floor. He did not dive he ran out of steam and fell in a heap, I was right in line with it, and so was the Lino who had an uninterrupted view it. The ref had a player or two blocking his view and chose to go with his cheating gutless instinct, we were going mad with the Lino cause he never gave a decision all night, every call was the refs. Absolute joke. I hate Henley loads but he did not dive, he was completely fcuked. He stayed down and was pleading with the shitt who was standing over him, I think he would have got up straight away. IMO that's when the Lino should have made the call cause he was away from the incident but close enough to see and had ample time to assess the players reaction, no bb player called for the pen and all our players especially fordey and the shitt was going into one. guilty players players do not act that way. But guilty refs will always bottle it and hide away behind their union. No good wrong uns every time, and that will never change. Shame though cause I thought we had a really good ref in the first half.

Good honest assesment Luke and spot on may I say,But regarding Forde's comments yes he is aldo right as it does seem to be very similar to Lukes account, but to say that they all put in a good shift is not right, there are enough of us who were there who would not share that opinion as I sure he must have heard while being on the pitch in the second half.

Look at Smith & Dunne as Luke alreday pointed out + Jimmy the two who were up front (cant really call them forwardswith the goals tally for Wall) Danny Shitts has gone off in the last few games ( But KJ could have interviened at the end which would have stopped him getting sent off).

Since December we have had too many players going through the motions and not rembering that they are playing for Millwall this is a place where we are against everyone we have a seige mentality and we expect that when they pull that shirt on they are of the same mind as us in the stands. But sadly there is not that may who think and play that way .

The referee on Tuesday and his assistants did have poor games, but the assistants are briefed before the game to wait to seewhich way the ref is going to give a descion and agree with him, the only things they give by themself is ball out of play and off sides. the referee will only consult with them if he has told them before that he wants them to help with his calls, but most dont because they are consisted.

Lets hope we can stop the rot this Saturday and be safe and then we can enjoy Tuesday night and spank the strippy Nigles good and proper.

Having "Googled" Gavin Ward, I do not think it was just us he is picking on, apart from the fact it was him that gave Bolton a penalty against us back in October at the Den, which they missed. He gave two penalties at Bristol City-Blackpool, which both managers complained about. It was him who barged into the Leicester dressing room at half time, whilst a team talk was in progress, was told to get lost and he sent Pearson to the stand. Just a few on the incidents involving this so called referee. There are many more, obviously, he does not get assessed.
