Exclusive: Millwall make improved contract offer to Shittu

MILLWALL have underlined their determination to keep hold of captain Danny Shittu by offering him a two-year contract, NewsAtDen understands.

The Lions initially offered the 32-year-old a 12-month deal when discussions began last month, but in a show of good will they have agreed to Shittu's request for longer terms.

Many had speculated that the two parties were deadlocked over the length of the centre-back's new contract – but it is believed a two-year offer has been on the table for several weeks.

Shittu has been an immense figure for Millwall this term and, despite his advancing years, manager Kenny Jackett was quick to sanction a revision of the club's first proposal.

Popular winger Chris Taylor, meanwhile, is set to extend his spell at The Den by a further two years, although the deal is unlikely to be finalised until Millwall have secured their Championship status.

Hope it's not too long and shittu can stay fit for the full 2 years. Is a worry for a man of his age but been immense this year. 50/50 between him and Henry for poty IMO.

Totally agree, although Lowry, Forde and Beevers wuld be contenders as well. Anyone fancy nominating one of our CM or CF's?

I agree with both Shittu & Henry but would also throw in Chris Taylor who, apart from roughly a month out here & there, has been outstanding in many ways.

All the above mentioned are worthy but Danny is head and shoulders above this tear( literally) for me

    Shittu
    Forde
    Beevers
    Henry
    Taylor
    Lowry

The rest pretty average not including A.Smith , he's not ours

I see through this " that's what we do " b*******. If anyone came in with a higher wage offer he would be off, we offerd a 1 year deal and got forced into 2 years for a reason. And I doubt it was because of his performance because I'd bet anyone he has 1 year left at this level max!

I think the shitt deserves two yrs after his efforts and its quite common for a 32 yr old to ask for longer terms if only offered 1yr especially when they know they've been one of the best players.
I'm not comparing the player only the performance so no jumping on me, offering the shitt 1yr is like Chelsea offering terry 1yr.
It's negotiation. Offer 1 and hope he excepts. It saves a lot of wages if he does. If he don't then he'll ask for two yrs so you say yes and drop the wage over the longer term. He and Taylor will sign, no worries there.
Taylor would get my POTY but has missed too many games. Lowry has been suspended too much to deserve it. Henry has been superb and really stepped up in the middle of our bad run. The shitt has been excellent and has been a worthy leader in robbo's absence. But my POTY is FORDEY if not for him then we would be bottom 3, he's been outstanding. He was dropped beggining of the season and came back in tip top shape and form. The only 2 negatives I have of his are, his kicking and his positioning on free kicks. But I have a feeling it will be the shitt.

Shittu won't sign unless we're safe same as Taylor, it's all about money there's no loyalty in football anymore.

Sh1ttu deserves 2 years after his performances, he has held us together, we won't see robbo again and if we start with the back 5 of Forde,Shittu, beavers,Lowry and Dunne at the start of next season, plus Taylor, wright,Henry, then get the new players around them we should be ok, but please no more loans, get some younger guys from lower league and Leto them earn contracts
