Exclusive: Jackett confirms Millwall will offer Batt new deal

MILLWALL will offer forward Shaun Batt a new contract this summer, manager Kenny Jackett has confirmed.

Batt scored the decisive goal in the Lions' 1-0 victory over Watford in midweek and will be handed a further 12 months to make an impact at The Den after his injury nightmare.

The 26-year-old is only just getting back up to speed after his knee was ripped apart in a pre-season friendly back in 2010, but made huge strides during a recent loan spell at Leyton Orient.

"We will offer Shaun a contract and he knows that will be the case," Jackett told NewsAtDen. "We will be in discussions but all of the players, if selected, must concentrate on staying up first.

"There is quite a bit of sorting out to do in the summer, as there always is, and Shaun's contract will be one of those things. There will be a positive discussion and an offer for him, definitely.

"We've put a lot of time and effort into Shaun. If somebody is going to benefit from his hard work, I want it to be us because it's the club who have worked with him through his injury.

"Things will be crystallised in the second week of May. I have been very pleased with Shaun since he came back from Orient – I hope he can stay fit and battle-hardened.

"He can definitely contribute and the supporters have a lot of belief in him."

Quite a bit of sorting out to do?! Like give all the s*** we have new 1 year deals and battle relegation again? Need to move on and stop wasting what budget we have on 'squad' players. Bring in fresh players to improve starting 11 not keep s*** that don't always make the squad. Feel sorry for batt but football is a ruthless business and we should be moving on. Amount of average players we have at the club is beyond a joke and rather than offloading while we can we give them a new contract to make the bench every once in a while. Not a happy man.

Well done Shaun you have had a frustrating time over the last couple of seasons but you hung in there always giving your all (unlike some I could mention) and now it looks like you will be rewarded for it.
Good luck to you and to us for the future.

I genuinely think Sean is capable of being a first Team player there are very few who can live with his pace. He has had two awful years due to injury but looks to be coming out of it fitter and stronger than ever.

Pleased he is being offered a new contract

Yeah, I am happy to hear this new, Batt has beena breath of fresh air since returning from Orient and his pace and hold up play makes him a geniune threat. He can do a job at this level, time will tell but I believe in this lad. As for Tam, I always saw him as a Jimmy Abdou'like player that can actually pass the ball. I love Jimmy but think Tam has been harshly treated and should get some games to prove himself at this level.

Good luck the bloke getting a contract for another year he deserves it for effort and commitment that puts others (much better paid) to shame.. I doubt that his wages are high and he's worth a shot as a useful squad player although he's never going to be a 20 goal striker.

The entire squad needs a good sort out and some new blood but if we sign that waste of space Hulse on a permanent I wont be buying a Season Ticket.

Tam won't be kept which is a great shame. I'd say it's the injury that has done for him because he more than had the ability.

Good on yer Shaun, well deserved....lets hope he has a positive end to this campaign and have an injury free summer so he can show us what he's got next season. He reminds me of a hybrid between Jon Goodman and Chris Armstrong!!! I dont think we have seen the best of him yet....

Deserves a new deal. He's shown a lot of courage to bounce back from that bad injury. Its a wonder he can still run at all let alone still shift as quickly as he can. Not saying he will be our best striker next season but defo worth another deal.

Been really good with a professionals attitude, his under standing of the game has got better, with pace that every team in this division can't deal with as there not very good, hope his watched Morison become a good player so hopely he has taken notes, just hoping he dont have a Danny Senda !! And Tam as dropped two leagues and his not the same as he was before unfortunately ...

Got nothing against batt but this is f****** madness, hardly play all season then score one goal in an important game and then get offered a new contract! We're f***** if anymore of our benchwarmers score in the next couple of games. I guess this means we won't be signing anyone better for next season.

Mmmmmmm, have to agree with verminhater on this one. I like the boy, I really want him to be good enough at this level, but I don't think he is consistently good enough, sorry. He reminds me too much of Dany N'guessan, lots of spirit, energy and willingness, but ends up mostly doing the headless chicken thing cos the ability aint quite there.....again, sorry. Sounds negative, I know, but we've tried the 'not quite good enough, but works his socks off' type and the 'loads of ability but won't bother' type too, and its dropped us in the s***. I'd rather see a slow, methodical, purposeful rebuild with quality, chaplow-type players that will see us, in the long term push for a decent placing in this league and possibly deserved play-offs some season soon.

You lot are hilarious want him to sign a new deal his great but when we sign rob hulse in summer cos can't afford any better dont moan. It's a waste of budget cos he will be out on loan this time next jan! As for cheap wages not true. We pay good championship wages to the whole squad even fringe players and a couple earn a bit more. He will be getting 6-8k. That's 300- 400k out of the yearly budget.

Shaun has done well to overcome his injury problem but he is not the answer to our shortage of decent strikers. Our whole squad needs a complete overhaul. I think M Taylor, Mildenhall, Mkandawire ,Racon and N'Guessan won't be offered new contracts.Marquis is also a doubt if we are going to keep Batt. However we still have more non Championship standard players in the squad still under contract ie Osborne, Malone, Wright, Woolford. Feeney and this new chap Bender are only bench warmers .Until we start making some quality signings we will always struggle in the Championship. If we did that we might not need to make half a dozen loan signings every season
most of who are crap anyway.

Hmm massive divide, we should all slow down a second and look outside the box, ok hulse was a good signing in January when everyone was holding there cards close to there chest what other strikes with a cv like his we're gonna be loaned out ? None, it hasn't worked but who was to tell ? Tyson signing was a good idea the team needed pace into it, but his been injured but he can do a job in the championship his cv proves it, but yet again hasn't worked out, and as for wages you don't no that's true or not or what the budget is, but we do need a new midfields with a different style, would you take a trade Chaplow for trotter ? If a deal was to come about ?

Definitely would swap Chaplow for Trotter, was gutted when he got injured. Chaplow would cost a bomb though and i think a decent striker is and should be top of the wish list for Kenny. But if Batt is to improve next year, he needs some competition as Marquis and Keogh are not prolific enough. Maybe go back in for Benik Afobe season long loan, in addition to a up and coming goal scorer from the lower divisions someone like Tom Pope maybe or the boy from Yeovil, Paddy Madden. Both young and both top scorers in their respective leagues. No more old, 32yrs plus, has been journey man please KJ.

Baldock will be going down with Bristol, he would be a good buy and has Championship pedigree.

Batt Man is not gonna be on the biggest of wages, always gives his all, raw, but certainly quick. I think the boy deserves another year. Agree with Bush on the logic as to who we took on loan AND who was available, they haven't worked out but that's football at this level, someone who's flying or the finished article was (is??) probably out of our reach. If Chris Wood had signed we would be lauding our recruitment policy. I am sure KJ knows what we need and will have the summer to put it in place especially as we now have a bigger budget. Keep the faith! COYL

He's been unlucky , but I think he's lucky to get a contract.....expect you to do better things now Shaun, previous to his loan he was terrible, he still has no ball control .....has any one watched him in warm ups those in the CBL are in serious danger if there not facing the pitch. ....No way I can see Hulse staying Les.

To be fair I don't think he is good enought, but , and it's a big but , he may be up to this standard , he has been out so long I have forgotten what he was like when he first came. We have stood by him for so long and invested a lot of time and money we might as well give him another shot, who knows how he will turn out. When Taylor started this year he looked lightweight, and not up to it, so we must give Batt another chance. Also when you get a chance look at the size of his feet, biggest feet I have ever seen. Could be interesting in the showers !

He's been very effective coming off the bench for us and as much as I like him and as much as he deserves a starting birth, on the bench is where I'd keep him, he's an impact player and probably the only one we have got. I'd give him the new contract so if orient or any other league one team want him they have to pay for him, there's only so much we can and should give away. Trotter? I'd offer him for chaplow tomorrow but unfortunately chaplow's out of contract this summer. We need a goal scorer pope is 26 and this is by far his best season so that's a 50/50 chance and maybe one worth looking at, smith at Oldham is only young and looks promising maybe cheaper option aswel and Taylor could have a word. Yoevils madden seems to be doing ok. Other than that can't see much more we can afford to go for. Well done batt man I hope you give as much effort now you know what's coming, but remember you ain't got it yet.

I think KJ has explained it pretty well and if Batt bangs three or four more in by the end of the season there'll be a lot of people changing their tune. Like Marquis I think he deserves some time to recover properly from a major injury and if he doesn't work out we can offload in January.

i like Batt but i have to agree with most he is not good enough for the Championship, jackett always does this, we cant move forward and avoid relegation battles if we think the likes of Batt or Marquis are good enough, Marquis scores against Villa so then started every game for ages when he is clearly a league 2 player at best, Batt scores with his c*** against Watford from 2 yards so kenny gives him a new deal, i really can't work out Jackett, he gave Nguesson a 3 year deal far to quickly and was talking about giving easter a perm deal straight after the game because he scored that day at Charlton, yet should of tied up Wood well before Leicester came sniffing! KJ is far to quick to play s*** forwards and dish out deals to them on the strength of nothing! If KJ starts next season with s*** like Batt ,Marquis or Hulse and doesnt see we need some quality up top we are certs for relegation next season, we should go and break the bank for Harry Kane and build the team around him, heard from a Spurs fan who knows a bit they might sell this summer as they dont think hes gonna make the grade!

batt man well when he came on in the week & changed the game .. don't think we are a million miles off having a mid table team, look how well we did when wood's was banging them in for fun ..we are just badly in need of two/three strikers who can get 20+ a season ..we must have money from the fa cup run so lets hope we can get afew players in & stop this loanie crap ever season ..think batt man can do a job for us next season but come on kj etc get rid of all these journey men loanies & put your hands in your pockets as we do season out !!!

Lads you gotta get your head around the fact that we always start to break even thats the budget, and are chairman folks out few million to strive of the admin. us as a club are Tiny and are fan base is pretty poor considering how many people we get per game, their are many arguing points pro's an con's but we cant afford players that are gonna fire us up in to the promotion spots playing good slick football, so once someone with the attitude of batt comes on, the game is turnt momentum to us, and that wht any Millwall fan asks for, we couldn't buy chris woods we don't have the money, Henderson was a free with big wages, again the message is slow down this season has been a success, even if it has been poor at times.

Can't have a squad full of quality when your in our position. Don't know what some people think this is, you have to have fringe, and squad players. Would love to have a squad full of quality but unfortunately It won't happen.
