Lions move for striker Beattie

MILLWALL are set to sign former Scotland international Craig Beattie.

The former West Brom and Crystal Palace striker was released early from his contract at Swansea on Friday, and the Lions have stepped in to snap him up on a free transfer, according to Sky Sports.

Kenny Jackett surprised fans when he allowed Josh McQuoid to join Burnley on loan yesterday, but the Millwall boss has moved quickly to remedy his striker shortfall in moving for Beattie.

The 28-year-old was Swansea's record signing when he joined the Welsh club in 2008.

I dont think this is a very good signing. Looking at his record, this isnt the kind of striker we need. Haynes/Henderson would have been the perfect partnership with pace and strength and most importantly, goals. Whilst I obviously hope Beattie does the business and gets 10 goals or so in the remaining games, I think the possibility of that is very slim. It is something that we've done for years now - needing a striker then rashly signing players like Akinfenwa, Pericard or Obika and now, Beattie. Nonetheless good luck to Craig - if he signs!
