Berylson vows to rebuild Millwall over the summer

CHAIRMAN John Berylson believes relegation-threatened Millwall can be transformed into promotion contenders over the summer.

The Lions supremo has vowed to back boss Kenny Jackett in the transfer window during the close season and says the club will get their business done early.

"We start rebuilding for next year the day after the season ends," he told the club's official site.

"Last summer it was too late into the transfer window by the time we pulled the team together. I'm presuming we'll be in the same division and we'll see what we need and go and get it.

"I think we're very close to being a strong contender. We've battled the top teams in this division but missed by an inch. We're right there but we haven't quite crossed that line.

"One of Leeds' directors reminded me that a few seasons before QPR went up, they were fighting relegation. I think we could be in a similar situation. We have some very fine players and a very fine manager.

"I'm very happy that Kenny's here – there's nobody out there who I could have replaced him with that would have been any better. He's getting more experienced every year and I think he's figured out the league now.

"We need to make sure we have the players and the talent. I think people know where the holes in our squad are and we're well aware of them too."

    Dear John,
Please buy us some full backs - we really need full backs, Smith does okay but the other three (or four if you count Stewart - maybe that is three and a quarter) are just not up to scratch.
Maybe a centre back to really challenge Lowry and Robbo for their places? This person is not Tony Craig though or Wardy for that matter (but could be Tam if he comes back from injury okay).
A bit of experience in midfield wouldn't go amiss - but someone better than Brian Howard, how we have needed someone who looks like they have time on the ball this season.
And then up top Hendo and Keogh have got goals in them so will do as starters - am I alone in thinking Kane has a future at the Den? Perhaps if Redknap goes to England we might get him on the cheap.
Maybe one more winger too - but now I am getting greedy - but full-backs, definitely get new full backs.

    All the best
