Millwall boss demands home improvements against Owls

KENNY Jackett admits Millwall's form at The Den must improve if they are to make the most of the fact that five of their seven remaining league fixtures are on home soil.

The Lions, who host Sheffield Wednesday on Tuesday evening, have not won on their own patch in the Championship since New Year's Day, when they beat Bristol City 2-1.

"We have to be better at home than we have been of late," Jackett said. "We've got to find the right equation. We have 52 points with seven games left and at least one game in hand on most sides.

"We've got to capitalise on the fact we have five games at home. We are not in a situation where we necessarily need to win all five but we need to win a percentage of them and attack sides.

"Sheffield Wednesday are a big, powerful side with a lot of pace in the wide areas. After a slow start to the first half of their campaign, they've found a winning formula of late."

With league points still needed to secure safety, Jackett says the visit of the Owls provides his players with the chance to force their way into his team for Saturday's FA Cup semi-final against Wigan.

"I'm open to people impressing me," he said. "We've done quite a bit of analysis on Wigan because their games are so readily available but it's not something I've concentrated on too hard.

"I've been pleased with the response of the players since the quarter-final because with such a high total of points needed to stay up, it would be very easy to have a good cup run and go down.

"We've had two victories and two draws since the Blackburn win. That's a good points total. I want the team to be confident going into such a big semi-final which is coming up very quickly."

Anyone heard what's happening about Shittu and Taylor's new contracts? I suspect the club is stalling
on offering them too much money until we are sure of avoiding relegation. If we are not careful we will lose them both as their agents will look for better deals elsewhere.

Surely this is the sort of game where KJ picks some of the fringe players in the squad cos they'll be eager to impress & maybe stake a claim for a Wembley place and not to play anyone who could pick-up a yellow and face a ban for the semi-final. Hopefully, we'll see Henry back on the pitch at some point tonight. Hulse isn't good nor mobile enough so give young Batt a runout & play St Leger at CB alongside Beevers & rest Shittu.

Even though I find some of KJs team picking decisions a bit strange on occasions he's not stupid. He will pick the optimum team the play Sheff Weds who are only two points below us. He will have thought about yellow cards, fitness, players that need a run and above all, the player's ability. No matter what we think about who should be playing and what positions they should play in only KJ and his staff know exactly who he's got to work with. Saying that, I'd settle for a 1-0 tonight but I'm not confident. We've had too many occasions recently where on paper we should have beaten teams and ended up at best with a draw and at worst getting stuffed.

    COME ON YOU LIONS!

Let's hope the forward line tonight isn't Batt or Maquis otherwise we're looking at another 0-0 or worse, if he rests Shittu.

Sounds like Marquis will not be playing tonight and believe it or not, neither will Tyson ;o)
Wednesday have won three of their last five games so this isn't going to be no easy job. I'm hoping, as this is a game where the selected team will need to impress for Saturday, they will give it a go and not settle for any kind of a draw let alone loosing.

Losing at home to teams below is fast becoming the trend at the Den and I'm just going to keep my fingers crossed that tonight we not only win but we virtually guarantee our survival for another season.

Batt, Marquis, Tyson, Hulse, N'Guessan - what a mouth-watering choice. Maybe it's time to start playing six in midfield and just see what happens.
