Millwall looking to tie up permanent deal for Palace loanee

MILLWALL are in discussions with Crystal Palace striker Jermaine Easter about turning his loan move to The Den into a permanent one at the end of the season.

The Lions have an agreement in principle in place with the Wales international but are yet to finalise contract terms with his representative.

If a deal can be struck, Easter will sign up for 12 months although any paperwork for a permanent transfer cannot be officially completed until the summer.

Boss Kenny Jackett says he is confident that the 31-year-old, who scored in Millwall's 2-0 victory over Charlton earlier this month, will put pen-to-paper in due course.

Jackett told NewsAtDen: "You cannot sign anybody permanently at the moment but I do expect that our agreement will be followed through. He's a player I've tried to sign several times before."

'Tried to sign many times before'....I'm sure.
He was probably 5 years younger then. What is it with Millwall and over 30's strikers?

We can get them on short contracts within budget, and they have experience at this level..... It's all about what we can afford. Wish we could splash out the dosh ..... Remember McQuoid £500,000 ouch!

Not sure about this one, done well at Charlton but a bit early to make a decision on just one game.
I imagine his wages wouldn't be cheap and is a bit old at 31(he's no Steve Clarridge).
Would have preferred someone a bit younger from a lower division perhaps that would not command such a high wage.
But its a good sign that we are trying to sign players but cannot afford to waste money.
Hopefully Jermaine can continue to score and show us what a good aquisition he would be.

It's seems a bit premature. Maybe he's looking to go out with a bang. Maybe he wants impress the Wales manager. I certainly see over 30's as having a limited shelf life.

What like Kevin Phillips 39 and rubbish..... If he's looked after himself he can do well for another couple of years surely.

This seems really premature, why not wait until the end of the season?

I don't understand Kenny's obsession with packing the squad with very average strikers. Easter seems a decent striker, but really nothing special at this level. What we need are up and coming young forwards of the likes of Morison, Wood and Kane. I know they're not easy to come by (as we've seen with Marquis), but I don't see us progressing on or off the pitch continually bringing in players like Easter.

Well said BB. They learnt a valuable lesson where wood was concerned I reckon.

I am not sure Easter is the answer for our striking problems but the coming months will give us a chance to test him out at this level. It's WAY to early to judge him on current form, let's see him get a couple in the Eater break first then see if he can keep a run going.

KJ seems to be damned if he does and damned if he doesn't. We were all moaning about not siging the likes of Wood early on and then when he had done well, it was too late and we lost him to Pearson. What happens if Easter starts banging them in and he draws attention and we lose him.
I do agree it is a bit early, but, if KJ thinks he can do a job for us, maybe a short term contract. He can not be worse than Hulse or Tyson. One thing he did show at Charlton, was at least he was up for it and got stuck in.

We've lost players on loan before and this seems like a situation to avoid that, but easter came on as a sub in 1 game, scored a tap in, and we wanna sign him,bit premature I agree, let him work for his contract with goals 1st,instead of him maybe thinkin, well I've got a contract next summer anyway now..

Jackett has this thing for people being settled in London, Walsall's Will Grigg is a striker we should be in for. Can't be as bad as that N guessing.

Perhaps Jackett is comfort buying because he has missed out on first choice strikers. He must be hamstrung on low money and lack of ambition.

I know it 'seems' a bit hasty, but KJ won't go silly and offer him a 5 year deal, will he? I think this will be ok. Don't forget what we, the fans don't see...KJ has been with Easter now, day in-day out for a few weeks and has got to know him on a personal level, he obviously likes what he sees and its not just about ability, its about attitude and desire too, the boy Easter must have that or KJ wouldn't be offering. Also we must be realistic with our funding and our status, we aint gonna get Messi, so JE might be ok, let's give him a chance.

There are other strikers out there. Why is that other clubs can find them and we can't?. KJ's record with strikers in the nearly 6 years he has been here is pathetic. The only decent ones he has signed permanently are Morison and possibly Keogh. Wood and Kane were loanees who he at least recognised the potential. Easter might prove me wrong but I think he will be yet another miss. We already have enough deadwood at the club without adding to it. We should have a good clearout in the Summer and spend the money that was available for Wood plus the FA Cup money to make a few good quality signings for a change.

Why. He looked out of his depth against Leicester and appears to have no bottle.

My husband and i have been absolutely happy Peter could complete his basic research through your ideas he gained through the weblog. It is now and again perplexing to just find yourself offering things which people might have been making money from. And now we grasp we have the writer to appreciate for that. The type of illustrations you have made, the straightforward website menu, the relationships you help promote - it is mostly remarkable, and it's really letting our son and the family believe that this idea is entertaining, which is extremely vital. Thank you for the whole thing!
