KENNY Jackett has revealed that Nick Montgomery's loan move to Millwall from Sheffield United could become permanent in the summer.
But the Lions boss says the 30-year-old's first task will be to aid the Lions in their battle against relegation.
Jackett believes that the Scottish midfielder's competitive edge and his ability to lead by example are vital attributes that the team need at this stage of the season.
"He is an experienced midfield player and he gives us cover for Liam Trotter, who will still be three or four weeks away from full fitness," Jackett told the club's official website.
"I think he is a good competitor, a good leader and the type of player we need in this situation. It is also a great opportunity for me to look at him for the future as well."
Meanwhile, Jackett explained the reasoning behind Dany N'Guessan's loan departure to rivals Charlton.
He added: "Dany has slipped down the pecking order so to get him out on loan and get some games is a good thing. We will watch him closely in League One and it's the next step of his progression."
