Jackett praises Lowry's "outstanding" goal against Charlton

KENNY Jackett hailed Shane Lowry's 35-yard free-kick as "outstanding" after Millwall's 2-0 derby win over Charlton at The Valley.

Left-back Lowry clinched victory for the Lions against their South London rivals with a phenomenal long-rage strike, just four minutes after Jermaine Easter's opening goal.

And Jackett was full of praise for the Australian defender. He said: "I cannot say he has necessarily practiced that but he showed fantastic confidence.

"There was no disguise on it, he just took the responsibility and the keeper had no chance. It was a great strike. It was an outstanding free-kick and I was really pleased he took it on.

"It is one thing doing that on the training ground but it's another thing doing it in front of a crowd. It was a great free-kick and the keeper had no chance – it sailed in."

Three points against the Addicks capped a memorable week for Millwall, who secured their place in the semi-finals of the FA Cup with a 1-0 win over Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park in midweek.

And the Lions boss says his players must now recharge their batteries over the forthcoming two-week international break in readiness for a hectic end to the season.

"When we start again against Leicester there are 11 games in 37 days, so you need a big squad and you need adaptable players because injuries and suspensions will happen," he said.

"It is an intense period. I think in April we play every Tuesday with an FA Cup tie in the middle. It is an exciting time but we have to make sure the squad is ready and big enough.

"We need to get the results to preserve our status as a Championship club. That is our number one priority and then we go into the semi-final."

Blimey, Lowry and Shittu can shoot all bloody day long as far as I'm concerned. If the strikers ain't doing it our defenders can weigh in with a few.

Absolute peach, a one off. The minute he lined up to take it I looked at me mate and said he's gonna shoot here, Cor blimey did he do just that. Hats off mr Lowry. And didnt he slot back in at center half nicely after osbourne came off. A Smith coming back in at left back, definately how it's gonna be against Leicester
But after that ?. Well played Lowry.
