Taylor expects speedy resolution to Millwall contract talks

CHRIS Taylor has confirmed he wants to stay at Millwall and the winger believes talks over a new contract will be straightforward.

The Lions are poised to open negotiations with Taylor next week after his impressive debut season in South London and the 26-year-old is keen to sign an extension on his one-year deal.

"I'd like to stay – 100 per cent," Taylor told NewsAtDen. "I think it came out in the press the other day that they are going to start talking to me after the Charlton game, which is first-class.

"Hopefully negotiations won't take long and we can get something sorted, because I want to stay – and hopefully they want to keep me. I don't think there will be too many problems."

Taylor has made 21 appearances this season, scoring goals against Birmingham City and Leicester City, and flourished in a new central midfield role against Blackburn Rovers in the FA Cup.

But he believes boss Kenny Jackett took a risk by signing him in the first place after his form dipped for former club Oldham in the second-half of last season.

"Coming to Millwall is the best decision I've ever made," he said. "I'm glad the gaffer had faith in me and wanted to sign me. Truth be told, my last six months at Oldham weren't good enough.

"I didn't play well and I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of Championship teams lost interest in me. But the gaffer had seen me play before and he thought he could get my confidence going again.

"I think he has done that and a big thanks go to him and his staff for that – they have been first-class with me since I've come here."

Taylor's incessant work rate has seen him become an instant hit with Millwall fans and the winger believes their support has been a factor in his success at The Den.

"The fans are first-class," he added. "They've been fantastic with me since I first walked through the door. I've bought into what they are about.

"The gaffer told me that if I give my all for them, they'll back me – even if I make a mistake. I feel a bit more relaxed knowing that I'll be alright as long as I show I'm caring and committed."

Thats what I like to see , someone who wants to be here, will be keeping fingers crossed until he's signed on the dotted line.
    Good luck Chris.

They must be teaching "first class" responses at Media School these days.

    Quality player.

Let's hope JB & KJ can work something out.

A battling winger, what's not to like. Will be a very good signing for the club long term, minimum 2 year deal in my opinion.

Great player and so glad he got through his injury. If we stave off relegation this season, get all our crocked players (including Robbo) back fit & healthy, next season could see us push on and be a real force.
Really hope our forwards get going!

Some things need to be faced and I seriously think you need to look beyond Robbo. Been a great servant but I doubt he will ever again be up to the pace of this division.

Always liked the look of him from his Oldham days. Like I've said before, a club like ours needs to take a punt, some work out, some don't. Here's one of the good ones AND he wan'ts to stay. Nice one mate!!!!

Shittu is the one we really need to tie into a longer deal. The problem is, he has been so amazing for us he will probaly be offered a shedload of cash by Leicester or Forest. The positive is that at least he is at an age where he is unlikely to be lured by the Premiership

He did miss the Africa nations cup to play for us, showing commitment to the cause.
Long may he continue but as they say money talks and I hear that both the teams you mentioned are still looking for a striker so they may be in after shits yet.

We can't under estimate the presence of a naturally left sided player. They're invaluable!

This is an easy one, he was loyal to Oldham and left at the right time, now he's at a really good age and realising his potential, and appreciates what we are and where we are. If only the rest of em had his desire then we wouldn't be in this mess. Junk font worry about the shitt fella he aint going nowhere
You don't come back and go what he has if you have no intention of staying. He loves his london so he won't be going Leicester or Forrest. He's been bit by the bug mate

I don't think we need to worry about Pearson because unless Leicester start to improve he will be sacked in the next few weeks.

Shittu & Taylor have developed into proper Millwall players this season. They give us 100% week in week out and we back them all the way. I'm sure they'll both sign up soon.
