Arsenal loanee faces nine months out with ligament damage

MILLWALL have been dealt a fresh injury blow with the news that striker Benik Afobe will miss the rest of the season with a cruciate knee ligament injury.

Afobe was forced off 12 minutes into the Lions' 2-0 defeat to Wolves on Tuesday and has been told he faces up to nine months on the sidelines after undergoing a scan.

The 20-year-old is expected to return to parent club Arsenal immediately to begin his rehabilitation and manager Kenny Jackett has wished the England U19 international a speedy recovery.

Jackett told NewsAtDen: "The scan showed cruciate ligament damage and it looks as though he will be ruled out for the rest of this season and part of next season as well. It's very serious for him.

"It's a big blow for the lad, first and foremost, and secondly it's a big blow for ourselves. It was quite an innocuous incident – an awkward landing. He tried to run it off but obviously he couldn't.

"He was on crutches the next day and had a scan straight away. He is a young guy, he will get over it and come back stronger. He's at the right age to be able to overcome this problem.

"Although it will take some time, he will overcome it and come through."

Millwall were only told 48 hours ago that winger James Henry will also miss the rest of the campaign with a ligament injury – and Jackett admits he will now consider bringing in reinforcements.

"We'll have to assess things in terms of our attacking options," he added. "I don't think there will be anyone coming in before the Blackburn game on Sunday, but after that we'll assess it."

    F**k Me. How's your luck?
Two bad injuries in as many days. All the best to Benik.
That's one good thing about loans you can send them back when injured.
Well its all down to the real Millwall boys to see us through. Good luck to Keogh & Marquis.
    Last men standing!

In January, we were linked with Aaron Mclean, at the time opinions were divided on him but we would have accepted the deal but we ended up missing out. Now at this stage of the season with results and performances becoming worse, I don't think any of us will accept another championship 'bench warmer' and to make it worse if any replacement(s) are being lined up they will have huge amounts of pressure on them due to the situation they are coming into. Is it worth the hassle/bother bringing someone else who us (the fans) don't really want in?

Son with all due respect, why would KJ and the board worry about our opinion on who they bring in ? If that was the case we wouldn't have a team at all

It just keeps coming. You could not make this stuff up. Really sorry for the lad, he must be devasted. Now I think is the time to stop moaning and for those who are left to stand up and be counted. Are you Wall or not? No chance of anyone before Sunday, so Marquis and Keogh down to you. I think one goal will bring Keogh's confidence back and Marquis needs to toughen up and stop being pushed off the ball so easily. As for the rest, Trotter, no doubt after Tuesday, will play against Blackburn, now is the time to prove how good you are. Taylor carry on where you were in the last 20 minutes against Wolves. It is when things really get tough that all those Wall do stand up and prove why teams do not like playing at the Den. So, we the fans will do our bit and scare the s*** out of them, then its down to team. Come on Wall.

I bet Blackburn can't believe their luck. Now it's up to the boys that are left. Come on you know you can do it with the right attitude.
Good luck Benik and all the best for the future.

I just don't see the point in continuing signing players who are are nowhere near good enough, January showed its slim pickings. We can't keep loaning other teams waste, nurture the players we've got. Apart from wood its the same team that went on the run. It's a confidence issue

This is unbelievable bad luck for Benik and the club, but given his decision to let Henderson leave, it is also bad for Jackett. We now have three fit strikers and two fit wingers. Taylor is certainly of the right quality but I don't think Feeney cuts it at this level. Keogh is out of form (but good enough when in form); I do not think Marquis has the ability to play at this level and Tyson is unproven. That is not enough in the attacking department. We also have Batt on loan (why?) and, even more bizarrely given the failures of our midfield, Mkandawire on loan. We have one proper left back (Malone), who KJ clearly doesn't think is good enough. This is not good. Bad luck has transpired to see the squad exposed in this state, but KJ needs to get a grip. An injury crisis did for Bonds and they will do for KJ unless he moves fast.

You did us proud Benik and i would welcome seeing you back in a Millwall shirt in the future. Time for our squad players to step up and be counted. Keogh will come good and now would be a great time for him to find form.

Absolutely gutted for the lad.... he is one we could have probably talked about getting in future! shame!! We'll end up with more loanees than Watford at this rate!! The players we've brough in since xmas have been shocking so expect more of the same and a hard relegation battle.... forget Wembley and forget mid table! Very bad luck but I think the manager has to look at himself and not bottle it if we're presented with the same chance next season to gatecrash the playoffs.... live and learn KJ!! Oh and on a brighter note it looks pretty bad for Hendo in his court case!! Cue Mary J Blige - I'm going down

Lady luck has turned her back on us for the time being. Let's hope we can lift ourselves before Blackburn. Everything seems very flat at the moment.

Absolutely gutted at this news. I actually thought he would slowly grow in confidence and stature and become an important part of our cup run and championship survival. Good luck fella, hope you mend quickly! The rest of the players seriously need to step up now and be counted, for as much as I admire some of you lads enthusiasm and positivity (smithy etc), I think we're in serious trouble. I hate to think it, even worse to post it here, but their heads have dropped and it shows. It can be done, look at Jimmy's workrate, if the rest of them can just man-up for 90 minutes, focus, defend from the front-line, pass the ball with some confidence....then maybe, just maybe, we'll be ok, but I'm worried! COYL !

I feel like we just need to start doing the basics well and then the rest will fall into place. We need to pass and move, use the wings, cross the ball, put pressure on opposition with the ball, and stand in the tackle. These are basics we are taught at school, yet our professionals seem to have forgotten how to complete these basic plays. I feel like a couple wins, will breed a bit of confidence and we will be fine. Just need to sort the basics first.

Taylor can score from MF and our centre backs really need to start contributing with goals from set pieces. Why don't we send both shirty and Beevers up for corners, leave the defending to the two full backs who wouldn't win a header if they were playing pygmys. Not sure about Woolford yet, but on his first appearance he played behind the front two and showed some directness and drive to get into the box and have a go. He might be worth a try playing behind a lone striker or front two of Hulse (when fit) and Keogh.

Sorry glyn but I was up at Bolton when woolford made his debut and how he played on Tuesday is how he played at Bolton, on the left, not behind the front two. he has no drive he never commits going forward he doesn't offer anything for Lowry, hence Lowry hoofing up to striker all the time. Taylor needs to be back on the LEFTSIDE and woolford needs to be left on the bench. I've never seen a so called winger like him in my life, the guy only stands on halfway and doesn't get involved. Not shooting you down glyn but its definately the worst signing any millwall manager has made and we've had some shockers.

Gutted for the lad, thought he was going to push on from borough game and start netting sum goals, and I think its fair that young wilkinson should get a shot if benfica were in for him then there's gota be sumin there, if you look at all these other clubs there playing there young lads just like hughes at derby only 17, the young lads who have bright futures need to get in the squad and given a shout, I haven't seen much of aiden (crawley loan) to knw if he's any good but maybe he deserves a shout aswell
