Millwall boss apologises to supporters after Wolves defeat

KENNY Jackett issued an apology to Millwall supporters after his side were beaten 2-0 by Wolves at The Den on Tuesday night.

Jackett accused his players of lacking "spirit, heart and passion" as Dean Saunders' side cantered to victory in South London thanks to goals from David Edwards and Sylvan Ebanks-Blake.

"There were no positives," Jackett fumed afterwards. "I apologise to the people that paid to watch – we were poor. We lacked the spirit, heart and passion you need to play for this club.

"We didn't show enough desire. I didn't think we were out of the game at any stage – even at 2-0, if we had got a goal back we could have had a run at them and got something.

"We did not show enough heart or organisation and it was a very disappointing performance. I felt we were very, very poor. We didn't show enough.

"Some people showed a bit of fire but it didn't work for them, some people did not. As a group and as a team, there weren't enough of the basics.

"We didn't deserve to get any points tonight. If there is a fear of playing at home, I don't accept that – it's a game of football, you have to show some passion and talk to each other.

"You have to show those basics first. Despite the performance, I felt the crowd were quite subdued and they could have given us a lot more stick than they did."

Jackett admitted he gave his players a dressing-down after the game and demanded an immediate response from them in the FA Cup quarter-final against Blackburn Rovers on Sunday.

"I was the one that spoke afterwards – I don't think anyone else did," he said. "We will be training on Wednesday and we will talk about Sunday and getting ourselves out of this run.

"We need to look forward and work out an equation with people that do want to run and compete. I don't like losing but I understand sometimes you do – but that was a below-par performance.

"We were poor in terms of our commitment and body language – those things were missing."

KJ has got to sort it out. Either the players want to play for us or not. Tonight none of them looked like they wanted to play, it's got to change or we're going down!!!

Shittu isn't to blame. He's been our best player.
My point is that even with the starting eleven tonight, a new manager with a refreshing attitude would have got a better result.
How many different players and formations has Shittu had to contend with recently?
Jackett can get you out of League one but he can't get you into the top 10 of the Championship.

KJ is the best manager outside of the Premier League in the UK. His consistency, creativity on a shoestring budget and passion are second to none. He's been in the job for over 5 years and I hope he's in it for another 5. Football is too often about immediate results. We need as fan base to take the bad with the good. Have faith in Kenny, he knows what he's doing. And he is going to do it sensibly and within our means.

I don't think we will go down this year, but if we do, I don't think having another Manager would have made a difference.

Henry wont be back for Blackburn, he is out for the season. Damaged knee ligaments.

Was sitting there tonight so so bored, i cant remember the last time i was excited by the football we play.
There was nothing tonight and bordered pathetic. These people are professional players yet cant string a pass together. We are not in League one so why are we aimlessly lumping the ball up the field to strikers who can't win a ball in the air.
I am just praying we stay up, will be a success at the moment in my eyes

Is that why the same man you say " can't get you into the top 10 of the championship " got us to finish 9th 2 seasons ago ? Jackett can tell them where to play and decide who plays, sometimes his decisions are very questionable but tonight he cannot be blamed for that totally gutless display. Not a pair of b******* between the lot of them.

Jonny, we might not be in league 1 Mate but our players (or at least the 14 that played tonight) are not championship standard. Forde-average... smith-not ours.... shittu- half decent... Beevers- ever since he signed permanent he has been s***... Lowry- our best centre back playing out of position... Taylor- half decent.. Abdou- tries and i love him but he is league 1.. Wright- pure and utter dog s***... Woolford- totally out of his depth wouldn't look out of place in league 2... Trotter- frustrating... Keogh- lost the plot completely.. Afobe- not ours... Marquis- rather him play than hulse but the lad is usless... Tyson- just s***. So there we have it, only my opinion but with that shower we are going down.

Apologise your havin a laugh Fag packet get your coat on seem like you've run out of ideas every team at the bottom have beat us at home convincingly, this can't be due to one striker your tactic don't work John M ain't good enough, no wonder you got Tyson from Darby he's s*** , Afobe is to young his nads ain't dropped yet Kenny you have to take the blame mate we ain't had a solid squad all season long ball don't work we can all see it why can't you, why can't our players hold the ball , pass and move, surely that's the basics skills needed to be a professional footballer £8,000 a week these boys are on we need results not apologise or excuses.

Yea i agree mostly with that. I do love Abdou and every team needs a player like him.
I am fed up with Jacketts transfer policy, wait under the end of the window and pick up the scraps.
Where is the money from Morrison, where is the money available for Wood? The savings from Hendersons wages? It's madness. I know we don't attract superstars but surly we can get better than players like Tyson who was 5th choice at Derby! Malone, another rubbish signing, same with Woolford.
If we do go down then players like Henry will leave and fully justified. We will be back where we started when Jackett took over if we carry on with the self destuction

Jonny - no point p****** the money up against the wall just for the sake of it! The money's still there I'm sure, but the player has to want to come to Millwall. we could easily go out there and spend the money but what's the point if the player is not right for KJ and for his philosophy for the team.

I think personally if we go out the cup and lose to charlton, then maybe , just a tiny little maybe, he might get the boot. But I doubt it and to be honest i wouldn't sack him. He's got us here , let him try and keep us here we owe him that much, after all like many people say, you can't argue with what he's done since he has been here. He was "king Kenny" only 2-3 months ago when we were flying. Funny how fickle people can be. If we go down, then I hope he walks after that but until then, whilst we are here I'd keep him. For this season anyway. Although he needs he's head checked after signing hulse Tyson and woolford. Shocking signings , but then if the wood money was really there to spend, SURELY HE WOULD HAVE SPENT IT? Who's really to blame i wonder ?

Obviously it's down to the players to be pumped up, but isn't motivation part of the manager's job? After they went 2-0 he clapped. He clearly isn't the kind of man to hurl abuse at his players when its due. He must have seen beforehand and seen who was up for it or not but did nothing. Now watch, the same worthless pieces of s*** will start v Blackburn, because KJ is too scared to change it. After tonight, I'd honestly play the youth team v Blackburn I really would. Paying 30 quid for that s***, it's a disgrace. Not the first time either. Peterborough, Barnsley, Burnley and now Wolves. F*** off Jackett you've lost the plot.

I agree with a lot of that Harry, but your only allowed 3 substitutes. The gutting thing is we'll beat Blackburn on Sunday there'll be a full house to lift the players
And everyone will be blinded by the lights of a semi at wembley. I want us to lose to Blackburn so we can play like men to stay in this division, at the moment we're playing like boys in the school playground on their first day of school, we look like complete strangers. And your right Harry why should anyone want to pay to watch football like that. To pick up on losing to bottom teams its something we've always done, we just seem to struggle against them not just this season but almost every season, we only seem to turn up against the so called big teams. I feel sorry for KJ cause its obvious he had to bring players in and even more so that he got plenty knock backs from his top targets, that's not his fault. Woolford is his fault and he should apologise to us for signing him, the players need to come out and apologise to us for knocking our money, they do not deserve a single penny. What a shame.

I agree, he has got us this far and we shouldnt be getting rid of him.
Yes he has made some shocking decisions but as you say, at least let him stay to try and sort this mess out this season. If he can then good luck to him, if he cant then maybe it is time for a fresh face.
We will always be grateful for what he has done in the 6 years.
According to the fan on the board the money was there for him to spend but he didnt want to buy someone who didnt fit in and decided not to use it. Getting rid of Henderson was preventable and a very bad choice especially as we were low on decent strikers. Wonder if he regrets that now? Before Wood came along and Hendo got injured he was our top scorer and playing well

Still to this day I do not understand letting Hendo go, at least he gave a sh1t unlike the rest of the lack. Lustre crap we got left. I mean Hulse out with a pulled stomach muscle? Tyson just come back, yet these w****** are probably the highest paid, so again why the f*** did he let Hendo go?

Harry I agree the players are s***, but it's what we've got the only changes I'd make is trotter for wright, Keogh and Tyson up front and feeney in for woolford. No Henry is a massive loss he is the only one we got who can change a game. I think jackett does get the hump we just don't see as much of it as we would like. Bet your f****** house he got angry tonight though. And Jonny i agree he should never have got rid of Henderson don't know why he did that, at least when he was fully fit there was always a threat up front, now there is f*** all.

Lets be really honest, the vast majority of the players we have are not up to the level of other players in this league, with a couple of exceptions. KJ bought in all the loanees, none have worked, Smith was doing ok, but got dropped after a bad 45 minutes, then left out for a couple of games. It is KJ's job to organise the players to play the way he wants, it is obvious it is not working, he can not threaten them with not playing them, as we have no one else. He has to be able to motivate his players, if he can not do that, then time for him or them to go, in the mean time we get relegated. It is OK for KJ to sat he was angry with the players etc, but he bought most of these players to the club, it his responsibilty to sort it out or go.

Just some crumbs of comfort for those of you who think we'll go down this year:
    Since 04/05 season:
    1. The highest place team after 36 games to be relegated were Leicester who were in 19th on 36 points.
    2. Only 4 teams in the bottom 3 at this stage of the season have survived.
    3. The lowest final league position of the 15th placed team at this stage of the season was 19th, 06/07 Leicester, 53 points.
    4. The lowest final league position of a team on 44 points at this stage of the season was 20th, 04/05 Brighton, 51 points.

Not saying it can't happen but it'd have to be a freak season.
I'm in the give KJ a chance camp, judge him on 200+ games rather than the last ten and on what he is allowed to work with. I think that once the play off picture settles down and the mid-table mediocrity shield gets into full swing we'll pick off enough points to be comfortable.

One thing I'd like to see in the summer is some honesty from the Chairman re what our ambitions for next season are. No BS, we're either in it to win it or it's another season of realistic expectations flirting with both ends of the table.

Hopefully a bit of extra revenue with a win on Sunday as well.....

As much as I like him, l've got to say I think Jackett has lost his way a bit. Team selection, subs have baffled me a bit lately. We need money to be spent on the team, it's obviously not there. We need to know what the ambition of the club is. We also need the fans in the ground (funny how we get 47 thousand at Wembly but 15 thousand can't turn up at the Den). Please Millwall sort it out!

Sorry chaps but l think this team is not up to this league, when you spend the amount of money that we do on players, permanent or loan, its an old saying but you get what you pay for. Example Kevin Philips hat-trick last night, must be on a few bob a month. But he might just take them up. So thats what we are up against Tyson v Philips. But what also concerned me last night is that the players have started the blame game. Defenders moaning at forwards for not holding the ball up, and vice versa, thats not a good sign. We were again totally overun and out fought in the midfield, we get knock off the ball to easily all over the pitch, and when we do we moan at the ref for not giving a foul. How about giving some back. We knock the ball up front to players, who are im sorry to say , to lightweight and not skilful enought to hold the ball up and bring our midfield into a attacking position and put us on the front foot ( Wood was excellent at this). The midfield spends most of the game running around like headless chickens trying to get the ball. The defence is ok, but when the ball keeps coming back like it does, somethings got to give.

Near the end of season 3 back in champship. We have a league one squad fact. If KJ had the real finances some seem to think we have then he would have replaced 90% of the squad in our first pre season fact. He didnt do that cause he couldn't do that. The league one squad we have has kept us in the champship fact. Every single person who has watched us in the past two months wether they're millwall or not will tell you we are not good enough to sustain a top half finish yr after yr. we have about 3 maybe 4 players who are good enough for this division, we know it so of course KJ knows it. I believe we are deep in transition with the disappointment of players failing to do they're jobs. We have also been rather unfortunate with injuries, hendo was injury prone, Taylor was bang in form then gets put out for a couple months and also the same said if Henry, how can a club like ours in the position we're in cope with that. We failed to replace wood, we panicked over Taylor, we knew we needed replacements but also knew we needed extra cash to do so, our targets turned us down so we ended up with what we've got, and yes they're all KJs decisions but we would have hung him if he didnt act, it's a big case of damned if he does and damned if he don't. Like it or not even if we still had wood we we're not going to be good enough to go up, it would have crippled us financially. KJs still the men for the job. If we maintain champship survival this season then we will go again and see what more we can do providing people want to come to us.
Get behind the team, before every home game kicks off your all clapping your hands and singing along to "let em come" I'm sure there's a line that says
      "Come rain or shine".

Well said Luke. We are punching above our weight, big time.

Only Charlton have a squad that was put together for less than ours, Watford don't count as they have used and abused the loan system.

By way of comparison, total cost of Millwall squad is c.2.2m against Wolves at c.36.6m, Blackburn at c.30.8m, Bolton at c.29.1m e.t.c. e.t.c.

The cheapest squad in the Premiership is c.21m - how can we possibly compete on average crowds of around 10k?

Check out this link for proof and a whole lot more info on what clubs spend: http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/en/championship/einkaufswerte/wettbewerb_GB2.html

Don't even know where to start regarding last nights performance. Our team looked like a bunch of strangers who were playing a game of football for the first time.
No work ethic, no spirit and no fight in them.
Maybe Jackett should take them tenpin bowling so they get to now each other again!

Very bad news about henry, we can not rely on woolford cause he is useless, he needs a winger who is playing well regardless of the league there in, jaques maghoma who plays for burton clearly shows he shouldn't be in league 2 after all he was a spurs youngster, and also I think forester frm brentford the young winger looks like a good prospect, step in now for loan to buy switch like we did for mcqouid and like we have done for hulse and we might get somwere, i can't see us getting better, well I don't think it can get any worse tbh

Someone took the p*** out of me on this site when I said that I've never really noticed Woolford before even when he came on as a sub for Bristol Titty against us at the Den. Well, he's playing for us now and yes, I have noticed him but only because he's crap. I also said at the time when we were buying him how the Bristol fans were overjoyed that he was going. I now know why!

I agree 100% but KJ must also take the blame he is the man who comes up with the tactics and last night we had none. Why do we persist with the long ball all that happens is it comes straight back, I could count on one hand the number of times Wolves kicked a long ball and the same goes for the Posh if you pass out from the goal you at least have poccession. Why also does Woolford cut in to the middle everytime he gets the ball surly he should be taking it down the wing. We had no midfield last night and I hear that Tam is going back to Southend when before his injury he was one of the best players we had so what is the problem with him now as the players we have brought in are not better than him.
There was only one player last night who tried hard and that was Taylor great turn of speed and he was prepared to run at them, as for John M and Tyson they are Div 1 players. come on Kenny tell us what the problem is with Tam and Feeney as both of them would have made a differance last night.

Cant believe there trying to sell us season tickets for next season if i want to go and watch s*** football i can go to the park on a sunday morning for free not pay 400 pound to watch a shower of s**** who dont give a f*** about this club.
