Millwall manager wary of threat posed by old boy Morison

KENNY Jackett believes Millwall must handle the threat posed by former striker Steve Morison if they are to beat Leeds United on Saturday.

Jackett admits the Lions tried to re-sign Morison in January after the Wales international was told he was surplus to requirements at Norwich during the transfer window.

But the Canaries agreed a swap deal involving Luciano Becchio with the Whites and Morison made the switch to Elland Road, where he will line up against his former club.

Jackett told NewsAtDen: "Like a lot of other situations, we have kept our eye on Steve since he left us and had been waiting to see [whether he could come back]. But it hasn't happened.

"The most important thing is that there are always other players around the corner and we have to find them. Sometimes, you see whether someone like Steve can come back, but it wasn't to be.

"Handling Morison and Ross McCormack will be very important – they are dangerous players. They look a good pairing – we have to respect that and I'm sure Leeds will have high hopes for them.

"As a team, we've got to handle that threat and Leeds' overall pressure. They will drive forward and we have to be strong enough to sustain that right the way through the game."

But Jackett insists facing Morison for the first time since his departure in June 2011 will not become a distraction to his side and that he is focused on his own attacking options ahead of the game.

"The players that matter for us are the two playing up front in blue," he said. "We have two 20-year-olds in John Marquis and Benik Afobe and some experience in Rob Hulse and Nathan Tyson.

"And then we have Andy Keogh who does need a goal to help him but he has a fantastic work rate and commitment to the club. We need to find the right combinations between those guys."

Plenty of options and i like the idea of a mix of experince and youth. I would start with BA and JM at Leeds and bring on Hulse in the second half to batter their knackered defence. Hot a good feeling we can get points on Saturday as Leeds are not consistent.

Leeds have got one of the youngest defences in the Championship so they won't tire easy - need experence from the start. Start with Keogh and Hulse

I agree with that but as most 'old boys' seem to score against their old clubs we will need to be looking at more than scraping a 0-1 result. How luvverly it would be for 'wall to do the double over this lot.
Come on you Lions, 1-2 - Afobe gets his first for us and Henry gets the winner and Morison is taken off for playing like a fanny!

Can you really see him doing his old club a favour? I heard that he had the option to coming back to Millwall but turned it down.

Hulse might be ready next week according to KJ last night on lions live. Big shame cause as real supporter says "old boys seem to score against their old clubs". Never mind. As for Moro, he was top drawer for us and a player I really liked. Fortunately for him there's less than 200 going up so he won't get the hard time he perhaps thought he would. But the shitt owes him one for getting a roasting against warnocks qpr at the den. I'm backing beevers and shitt head to withstand the pressure of M and M, 1-0 wall, but will take a draw. COYL miiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiillllllll

Agree with you lukesmith. Morison was excellent for us and how we loved it when he p***** over Shittu. Now I'm worried and I'll be happy with a draw. Thinking about it, taking 4 points of this lot would be good.

I can see Morrison getting more than 1, I think he's already opened his account and will want to prove a point. Keogh can't score if he was gifted a goal and only works if he's up front with a poacher. Rest are kids or old men - Hulse is past it and the others are unproven for a Championship run in.

Worry about your own team pudding
Norwich chose to use Moro as bait for bechio. And the only favours on Saturday will be us getting warnock sacked for you's. you obviously won't be going then pudding, if you don't know if Moro has scored yet.

P*** off tripe eater Warnoc will be sacked after this one, wait until Morrison don't get his own way he will sulk like a baby and will leave like a shot. Done well for us up until January before he went he could'nt buy a goal, since then spent most of his time warming the bench a Norwich. Let them worry about our players trust in K J .
