Marquis: Middlesbrough win could be turning point for Lions

STRIKER John Marquis hopes Millwall have turned their season around after securing their first win in seven Championship matches against Middlesbrough on Saturday.

The Lions arrested an alarming run of five straight league defeats at the Riverside Stadium, grinding out a precious 2-1 victory that edged Kenny Jackett's side back into mid-table.

And Marquis, who forced defender George Friend to head the ball into his own net for the opening goal, says Millwall should be confident heading into next weekend's trip to Leeds United.

"Middlesbrough is a very hard place to come and it was not pretty at times," he said. "They had a lot of the ball but they didn't do much with it.

"Jimmy Abdou and Josh Wright did a fantastic job of sitting in midfield and protecting the back four, and Fordey made some really good saves too.

"When we conceded, that obviously invited a new wave of pressure, but the boys pharmacy-no-rx.net/antibiotics.html weathered it really well. The six hour drive back was a lot better with a win!

"I definitely think this could be a turning point in the team's league form ahead of the Leeds game. They are a good side – a big club with a lot of history – but we'll be going up there full of confidence."

After spending a lengthy spell on the sidelines with a groin injury at the start of the season, Marquis has made seven appearances since January and hopes he will soon be firing on all cylinders.

"I have started a few games recently and I feel the only way I can improve is by playing minutes," he said. "To get another 90 under my belt at Middlesbrough and a win is fantastic.

"All in all, I'm happy with how things are going and I hope I can keep contributing to the team."
