Abdou: Losing run has not affected Millwall's confidence

JIMMY Abdou insists Millwall's confidence has not been damaged by five consecutive Championship defeats – the latest being a 5-1 home hammering by Peterborough.

But Abdou, who wore the captain's armband against Posh in the absence of Danny Shittu, admits the Lions urgently need to turn their season around.

Millwall were torn apart by lowly Posh to the disbelief of The Den on Tuesday night and Abdou says the players are desperate to bounce back against Middlesbrough on Saturday.

He said: "Our losing run has not really affected our confidence but we are in a situation where we need some points and we need to win games, that is it.

"We have to reflect as a team. I didn't think we did enough. Even though they scored first, we started very well but in the second-half we gave the game away.

"Now we have to get back at it and look towards Middlesbrough. The manager was as disappointed as everyone else afterwards but, like I said, we didn't play that badly.

"Sometimes it is just little incidents but we gave away some bad goals which is the main reason we lost. They played on the counter-attack and we were vulnerable – we need to fix that.

"Peterborough are a good team and I think they showed that they do not deserve to be where they are in the table but now we have to focus on ourselves and on the rest of the season."

The Lions' clash at the Riverside Stadium is being televised live on Sky Sports and freebets.com are offering great odds on the match.

‘’JIMMY Abdou insists Millwall's confidence has not been damaged by five consecutive Championship defeats’’.
I beg to differ on that.
‘’Millwall were torn apart by lowly Posh to the disbelief of The Den on Tuesday night ‘’.
    Totally agree.
‘’The players are desperate to bounce back against Middlesbrough on Saturday’’.
    I should hope so.
‘’I didn't think we did enough’’.
    Totally agree.
‘’In the second-half we gave the game away’’.
    You could say that again.
    ‘’We didn't play that badly’’.
    Yes, we did.
"Sometimes it is just little incidents but we gave away some bad goals which is the main reason we lost’’.
I think the main reason we lost is because they scored five and we only scored one.
‘’They played on the counter-attack and we were vulnerable - we need to fix that’’.
    Yes, we do.
"Peterborough are a good team and I think they showed that they do not deserve to be where they are in the table but now we have to focus on ourselves and on the rest of the season."
Ah, well, that’s alright then. Everything will be great from now on.

Millwall's confidence may not be damaged according to Jimmy, but mine is absolutely shattered.

I'm not too sure where the club is heading, with Henry and Trotters contracts up next summer, I dont see them signing their extentions in March, with us languising above the relegation zone.
Henry could easily get into a lesser Premier league side, and so could Trotter on his day, but i cant remember the last time Trotter turned up.
It's pretty clear we cant compete with the big spenders in the championship, so i'm not really sure where we go from here.

Dreaming of wembley and a 14 game unbeaten run.

Jimmy Jimmy Jimmy, You are one of the only players in the team that gives 100% every game. In future stick to playing and whatever the pressure, refuse to give an interview. The above is total sh*t. "We didn't play badly" I am sure that somewhere lying around, is a recording of last nights match. Watch it and then say we didn't play badly. Statements like this only hack the fans off even more, when they are told that the players actually beleive that they din't play badly. If that is seriously what the players think, we really are in trouble.

We had a similar lull last season and turned it around, big decisions need to be made. Personally, I would drop Trotter and give Wright run of games to see what he can do. Jimmi is playing well enough but Tam must be chomping at the bit and waiting for his chance to get on the pitch and would be Jimmi's natural successor, only with passing ability.

I wish I had not read that from the stand in captain.

I would much rather had read a statement from Shittu saying that he watched the game and let the players know in no uncertain terms how crap they looked against the team bottom of the league. I would have liked him to then say that such a performance will not happen again this season, that the team feels ashamed of their abject performance and will be working overtime at the training ground to put right their failings. But that hasn't happened and won't.

So my fav current player is also loyal to his team mates I can't blame him for that but in future let the club captain do the talking jimmy, your too nice mate on and off the pitch.
We were terrible and if you think otherwise then the problem is much bigger than I first thought. I can't believe we've had almost every player come out and say something in the last couple weeks maybe jackett should tell them to do their talking on the pitch, oh sorry, they are talking on the pitch, too f****** much and not enough playing football. Contracts up next summer ? Well why should they be renewed and who would want them ? It looks as though the club in recent weeks are trying to tell us we can't afford to be in the champship. KJ says we're punching above our weight, loans instead of perms and our "only" sorry, I mean "chief" scout mugs us off by trying to explain what happens to sign players, then ambler tells us how much this cup run could earn us and in same breath says it will mean we break even, not a mention that KJ will need it to strengthen the side. And the performances of the players since jan is disgusting no one looks at all interested in pushing for play offs even now they're still reachable. if we make changes to the side
will it make much difference ? IMO I think not.
We're obviously still operating as a league 1 side, winning promotion the way we did must have earned the club a small fortune berylson says he's put ex amount in club as a loan so how does that loan get payed back ? By unexpected cup runs ? Or relegation with a huge chance of instant promotion and an extra cup to compete in ?
High time people started to do what they get payed for cause lets face it they get payed and rewarded handsomely for what they do - f*** all by the looks of it - and all they're doing is taking the p*** out of the fans who pay their wages. One last thing where the f*** was the fan on the board when all the players and management were coming out after Bottlegate and racialgate ain't it his job to liaise and keep us posted and put our views to the board ? Just thinking aloud.

We are carrying to many 1st division players, im sorry Dunne just isn't good enough, Trotter can be great but only looks good because Jimmy covers his ass. And I'm afraid Kenny gets his tactics wrong i,e against Hull and last night, we should be at the oppositions throats at the Den, why do we look like a team of strangers, because we never have the same team out two weeks on the trot!!! We need structure and a good centre midfield player who isn't frightened to take control. It is also evident that we should have invested in Wood and then made a profit on him if we didn't make the play off's, it has all goner tits up since he went!!!!! We had a confident settled team then!!!!!! Am I wrong?

No your not, on the surface. But I believe the problem/s are root deep and are too big for the club to admit.
It's coincidence that we lost our way when wood left but we were getting away with it cause he was obviously the man to watch but loosing Taylor when we did hasn't helped either. I refuse to believe the blame can ly with any one player and I don't believe we'll get told either cause its not the way any millwall board have done things. Trotters the clubs asset and while he's playing he's worth something (less springs to mind)
So to not play him will tell people watching him that we no longer value him as high as we do and that we'll accept a small sum for him. IMO

Not affected confidence ? What a crock of s***. My confidence has been shattered.
Let's have a look at the team that played last night and are currently representing OUR Millwall.
Good enough- Forde, Shittu, Beevers, Henry, Abdou,,
      Currently not good enough- Trotter.
Get rid off- Everyone else. They are not up to the standard. I don't see how Jackett can now see that in any different way.
A MAJOR and TOTAL sort out. Spend the money on what we all want- Good players who are not at the end of their careers. For Christ sake we're cascading down the table and NOW is the time to get it sorted on the training ground in the short term by dropping players who are not pulling their weight. We're going to lose at Boro if we don't have a very different attitude coupled with some intelligent tactics and that means NOT playing players out of position, trying to fiddle around with formations, and stating we've had a good cup run. Have we? We've beaten Preston at home, everyone was beating Villa when we did and a non league team away. To get to the quarter finals in an achievement certainly, but we haven't beaten United, City or Chelsea to get this far. I really think Jackett needs to take some time-out and have a very long and deep think about it all.

Totes agree nick accept shittu didn't play lol
Seriously though how painful is this, I've never had so much to say about any one thing in all my life this whole season will be one ill never forget for so many reasons and it ain't over yet. Nothing actually adds up for me,the wood disaster, laying a new pitch in the summer with the promise of playing proper football, the current signings BA apart, the scout coming out and talking to the fans, the recent sky report with the chairmans valid but very late response, the alien abduction of Liam trotter, the strange tactics and selection policy and the annual home drubbing. I agree with the players good enough nick but I'd add one to it I like AK and remember he's lost a baby this season mate so personally I'd forgive him for his performances, the rest as you say are really not upto it. If we go down we'll lose the players that are good enough and cause KJ has treated some of em like s*** he'll lose them as well and the deadwood will become first team regulars. we spent five yrs down in league one last time out so as a friend once said "you have to have a five yr plan". Nick here's to the next five yrs pal, bottoms up old chap.

My admiration for KJ and what he has done for our club is obvious to all but there were a number of issues last night. We were outnumbered in midfield from the start which was not helped by BA seemingly being played out of position, Trotter had a reasonable first half going forward and was unlucky not to score but went missing in the second. Smith and Lowry were both poor in the first half but again AS was not helped by the guy in front of him not playing in a position he knew, why KJ thought Dunne would cope better I don't understand, he is not good enough. Lowry had a poor game and his sending off was stupidity. Osbourne and Beevers - not together, IMO either would do ok with Shittu organising but not together. Keogh is so out of form and confidence at moment you feel for the guy but he needs a break. Instead of playing Henry on the left and Afobe out of position, put Henry on the right with Smith to counteract posh's best player, Boyd, and push him further back. With the left sided players who are fit surely Woolford needed to play, KJ bought him so why not play him? Forde didn't do much wrong and Hulse worked hard but the flicks he did win went to waste. Jimmy worked hard as ever but he was swamped and is not a player who adds much going forward. Henry was probably our best outfield player and took his goal well but lost his discipline second half. All in all a very disheartening night. I'd be offering Chris Taylor a new contract tomorrow, together with Shittu. We usually have one game a season at home where we lose the plot and I hope that this was this season's game. I predict that there will be a lot of comings and goings at the end of the season!!!

Massive midfielder overhaul need in summer, we have no spine and leadership through middle. We need someone who and command the pitch and get the ball and open up attack with a decent park. Trotter is good on the attack but that all i see him and kj plays him to deep and abdou is sitting in back for. That cap needs to be filled by quality and we need more goals from midfield and with that hopefully next season that space can be filled and we can push on

Does anyone else think that Trotter may be out of his depth? He may have proved to be one of our better players over the past few seasons but he was hardly the best player in the league when we were in League One. I just see him on a learning curve with Us.

Does anyone think there is more to this bad run?

Heard a lot of rumours flying about, with Hendo being on 15k a week, when it was supposed to be on about 9k a week, going with the amount of money we were prepared to pay Wood (15k+)

With players like Trotter believing their own press, "Players to watch 2013"

If i found out some bloke i worked with was on triple the money i'm on for doing the same job essentially, then calling in sick for months and getting arrested for knocking someone out, i'd be pretty p***** off.

Only speculating because its coinsidental. Feel free to tell me i'm chatting sh1t, just never seen a collapse like this so quickly, and remembered the first game back after losing the playoffs to Birmingham, got done 0-6 by Rotheram, similar talk of contract disputes etc.

Reckon KJ is forcing the issue with Trotter as he knows he will probably leave at the end of the season so is trying to get him playing the way he was earlier this season meaning we'd get a good price for him. Even though I think Trotter is a lazy player, I don't think it helps when Jackett is playing him in a defensive midfield position. Get Josh Wright alongside Jimmy and put Trotter just behind the striker.
Sort it out Jackett, we need a good team assembled for next season when we're in Europe!!!!!!!!!!

Trotter is class and one of the few with geniune creative quality in the squad. The team performance on Tuesday was a shambles but there are different type of bravery and Trotter never hid and never does. He always get in a position where he can receive the ball and will always get on the ball and try something, it doesnt always work ( not helped by the running off the ball of his team mates ) . As the confidence of his team mates dwindles the few options Trotter has and the worse he appears.
Trotter has not been at his best in recent weeks and in the same way that Jimmy never stops running Trotter never hides and if the rest of the team stopped hiding then we would not be on a downward spiral.

I agree with you Kinet, he's certainly out of form in a team that's struggling. It's no coincidence that he looked better when Wood was here. He can't be accused of hiding but does need to find his form again
