Exclusive: Arsenal striker Afobe to make Millwall loan switch

MILLWALL have agreed a deal with Arsenal to sign England U21 striker Benik Afobe on loan, NewsAtDen can reveal.

The deal will officially go through on Friday when the emergency loan window opens to clubs in the Football League and the 19-year-old is set to go straight into the Lions squad to face Blackpool.

Boss Kenny Jackett, who has beaten off competition from three Championship rivals to land Afobe, has tried twice before to sign the forward and has finally been rewarded for his persistence.

Afobe will link up with international teammate Adam Smith at The Den after the duo played in the Young Lions' 4-0 win over Sweden on Tuesday night.

Like Smith, Afobe is set to join Millwall on a youth loan – although the length of the deal is unclear – and he cannot be recalled prematurely by his parent club.

Afobe recently returned from a spell at Bolton, for whom he played twice in the FA Cup, meaning he will be ineligible to play against Luton Town in the fifth round later this month.

      Harsh.
Well done KJ for finally getting your man, fingers crossed he does a good job, and whether he done a good job or not for Bolton he at least got a bit of experience in this division under his belt
And he's back home in London so shouldn't be unsettled and home sick. Over to you now afobe show Bolton what they missed out on. Good luck son.

Don't know too much about him to be honest but Jackett does have a knack with this type of player so let's wish him the best leading the front line. Will be interesting to see what formation we play at Blackpool. 442 433 or 451. My cash is on 442. Let's hope we can back on track and that all the deadwood is shipped out from the Den to release the funds to bring in others and then move on and up.

Interesting one, not too sure but will give the lad a chance, must mean no Harry Kane now though but I'm not surprised. Hopefully afobe and Keogh up top on Saturday it's too early IMO for hulse and afobe as they don't no each others game at all yet, they havent even trained together and Keogh needs some confidence I don't think dropping him is the answer.

KJ rarely puts them in first game keeps them on the bench then brings them on when we are in trouble.Keogh looks out of form and out of sorts with the club everything about him looks wrong at the moment. I think he could go with Hulse and Afobe..... Blackpool are as bad as us at the moment , Hulse will knock em about and hopefully the pace of Afobe will get around the back...... I'm an optimist ! If we can hold it up longer at the front we can bring Trotter the invisible man into the game.

Cant get excited about yet another loan player. It will end in disapointment , with him either being crap , or him being good and someoen else signing him. Whatever way it goes , wont do Millwall any favours. Need to start finding and signing our own players , or giving our own young players a chance.
4 Loan players inour squad is far too many....

Don't be so down beat mozi it's a short term fix an extra body for cover and offers something different and at least we can send him back if it goes wrong
I agree about giving our own youngsters a chance but after giving it some thought it probably be best all round if we loaned them out to build their confidence up it can't be nice for the likes of JM watching all these forwards turning up but he's millwall and young enough to crack on with it,
I hope it goes well for "BA" we've already had "Bottlegate" so the last thing we need is "Snickersgate"

We been unlucky recently, but by the sounds of some fans, kenny woulda got it wrong whoever we signed, this is a good loan move, young, full of pace, and a lot of energy bought into the team, hopefully a new buzz in the team, apart from signing a youngster, this is next best thing, only time will tell now,COYL!!

Why do we need a 19 year old from the a***? We have Conor Wilkinson, who gets rave reviews each week for reserves & Aiden O’Brien, who scored 2 goals for Rep of Ireland U21s, and KJ plays neither preferring a youngster from another club only to boost their potential. Recently, we’ve had, e.g, Simpson, O’Hara, Kane, Wood and they’ve all benefitted from playing regularly with us & doing well & their clubs have benefitted too. Oh well, moan over.

Ohara hardly got a game for us that is why for years spurs would not give us another player. Simpson was crap? Just fast and that's it , he had a few chances with us and never stepped up. Also have YOU seen wilkinson or obrien play? I have a few times and can promise you neither are ready for our 1st team, they are both behind marquis in the development process and we all no he's not good enough. We've signed an England u21 regular international who is contacted to arsenal, give him a chance.

I can't get any worse so lets look forward to a end of season run that only Millwall are capable of.
